What would you do if I died?

Sixteen year old Emma Miller was an odd girl with few friends. Well, except a boy. A boy she had known forever, Jasper Long.

Jasper was a sweet boy and smart too. He tended to solve things pretty easily but, the biggest mystery he would ever solve was about to unravel.

They were sitting alone at lunch like always, when Emma suddenly asked "What would you do if I died." This question confuse Jasper, he didn't quite understand why she would ask such a question. However, he will soon come to realize exactly why she had asked.

"What do you mean what would I do?" Jasper asked. " I mean what would you do? Would you miss me or wonder why? Or would you just continue on with your life like I never existed?" Emma asked with a blank expression. " of course I would miss you and wonder why. You're my best friend, I love you Emmy." Jasper hugged her. But, for reasons he didn't understand she still wore that blank expression.

That day seems to continue on like normal, that is until the principal made an announcement over the loudspeaker. Apparently there had been a suicide. The principal told them that surveillance had shown a young girl jumping off of Eastlake bridge.

When the principal announced the girls name, Jasper's heart sank. "Emma Miller" The name repeated in his head over and over again. All he could think about is what she had asked him earlier that day at lunch. Is that what she had meant, was she telling him, reaching out to him for help? How could she be gone? He couldn't get her out of his head. For the first time since he was a child tears stream down his cheeks.

The loudspeakers announce that they were dragging the water for her body as they spoke and hope that she would be found soon. No one else really seem to care except for Jasper but, that didn't matter now. At this moment nothing mattered to Jasper anymore. He felt as if his life had ended, when in reality it wasn't his it was gone.

I'm sure you're all wondering, why did she do it? Well patients my dear readers, will get there soon. But, you must understand, things aren't always as they seem.

Police spend the next week dragging the water for her body but to no avail. Even without the body, the security footage was enough to declare Emma Miller dead.

During those next two weeks Jasper did not go to school, he started his phone praying the Emma was OK. Praying that she had survived but, after they declared her dead and they stops dragging the waters, he fell into despair. He didn't understand how she could be there one minute and gone the next. Well, sometimes life just isn't fair.
