Both the sun and moon were rotating around the earth in sync, there were the occasional animal howls, and the rays of sunlight were showering down just fine.
Everything was in place, just like any other day.
In the midst of a jungle, there was a rabbit hopping its way to home. A dense, furry white coat covered its body all the way except for its little paws and large beady eyes. Many people who saw this gentle creature would've had a desire to have it reared.
Alas, a book shall not be judged by its cover.
Because right now the gentle creature is fuming in its heart :
'Fuck! Old Yellow actually brought Lin Lin home with a Spiritual Grade Carrot?! How dogshit lucky! Also Lin Lin really decided to cheat on me?! I have white fur!! White fur! Its a symbol of wealth and nobility! This ritch truly has no eyes!'
As much as it wanted to rant out loud, all that was coming out of its mouth were a bunch of squealing noises in some higgledy-piggledy combination.
"Squeal!!"
"Squeal!"
"Squeal.."
"Squeal....?"
Suddenly, the rabbit's squeal became weaker, and its pawsteps halted.
Its two large ears perked up, trying to catch on to anything out of order.
Something is wrong, it is pretty sure that it had heard something up in the leaves just now.
As somebit who's family had been prey for so many generations, and as a noble and superior white-furred rabbit, countless possibility came into play in its mind.
But before it could think of a good course of action, a rustling noise was heard right above him.
That was the last thing it heard.
*Thunk!*
From the looks of it, something had came down from above the leaves so fast that it left the rabbit with no time to react before getting crushed to death.
It was a figure who had his head buried in the ground, but judging by the wrinkled skin of his, it should be someone of the latter ages.
The figure very quickly got up. His eyes were bleak, his lips chapped. Going along with a face wrinkled into a bundle and a hunched back, he looks just like a decrepit old man who has been stressed out his whole life.
For some reason, there wasn't a speck of dirt on any part of his body, despite falling face first into dirt.
"Zhangzhe! Come down!" He shouted.
Almost immediately, another figure fell towards the ground, but there was a much lighter thud this time, the leaves above him were much denser, and had already caught his fall, so he was just falling down from a 20 meters tall tree.
That's right.
This is a world of cultivation, and there exist a unique energy called Spiritual Qi. From the looks of it, this energy could be absorbed into one's own body to temper and strengthen itself. Many people of this world has been doing it since a young age, and thus having strength and ability far greater than their bodies' original state.
These people are called 'cultivators'. Those who had great achievement on their cultivation would have power unimaginable to the likes of the inferior, so the path of cultivation is, without a doubt the most desired and respected compared to anything else.
...
The figure 'Zhangzhe' quickly united with the one who called him out. It was another average-looking old man, but his only slightly hunched back and emotionless eyes easily differentiates him from the other elderly.
"Wenzhi, where to go?" Zhang asked.
"Let me take a look." The latter replied.
He then reached into his plain brown robes, and took out a tattered notebook. There wasn't a single letter on the cover, and when flipped open, pages upon pages of aged yellow paper greeted his eyes.
Wenzhi flipped the pages once.
"Page...three million five hundred thousand three hundred and thirty-four..."
While this was going on, there were seven men chasing down a young man and woman.
The seven men had ripped bodies, underneath the sunlight, their muscle linings were clear cut. Each and every one of them had a weapon of some type in their hands, some were holding a sharp sword, some gripping on a machete, and even one was holding onto a twisted looking hammer. Clearly, they were out for blood.
The young man and woman one the other hand, was not holding onto any weapon, but there was still a sheathed sword tied to their back. They were completely focused on running, every step were placed carefully, and that not only caused them to maintain their speed at all times, but also prevents them from tripping by accident. Their footsteps were light and quick, had a bystander been watching them, he would've seen them moving ghostly fast.
In contrast to those two, the seven men were like steady hunters, each of their step were firm and strong, occasionally some of them even bounce themselves off some tree trunks by kicking against them to gain even more speed. It was clear that the pursuers had more experience navigating in the jungle.
But despite that, the two parties still remained at a standstill.
Seeing this, one of the seven men clicked his tongue.
'Tch. Looks like their Light Traversing Steps has been trained to minor completion...but how is this possible? It has only been seven days! Who would want to back up this pair of cast-out waste young master and servant?' He muttered in his heart.
'Could it be...some sort of treasure? That means, if we complete this task, we would not only be acquiring the rewards from young master Ling Wangzhi, but also something extra from these two!' Thinking of that, his heart shone with greed. But other than the footsteps and some nature's sound, there was nobody talking out loud.
...
Ling Fan's heart is racing right now, but at the same time is forcing himself to calm down. One must know, the ones chasing after him and his loyal servant Ling Wei right now, are the Seven Sins of Mist City. With a cultivation base of 8th Stage Spiritual Apprentice as the head, the rest of the group were filled with cultivators of the 6th to 7th Stage of Spiritual Apprentice Realm! Even most small families in Mist City have to be courteous to the Seven Sins!
If not for him having a mysterious encounter in a cave a week ago, causing him and Ling Wei to advance their movement arts to minor completion, how could they possibly have speed on par with the Seven Sins! The thought of crossing swords with them didn't even came into his mind, for he is merely only at the peak of 3rd Stage Spiritual Apprentice, while his servant, Ling Wei is only at the middle of the same 3rd Stage!
A single mistake could cause their death.
Ling Fan took a deep breath. He gripped the pendant below his neck,
'It's all on you now...'
