After a a surprisingly comfortable night of sleep, Connor woke up to the sweet sweet sound of what he thought was the garbage truck infront of his flat.
Streching his arms and legs, he got up from his bed, brushed his teeth, tied back his long hair into a high ponytail, and sat down infront of his computer once more.
"Okay, first things first, which one is the best paying job in comparison to how far away it is from here?"
Going through the notes he had taken the previous night, he spent the couple of minutes to figure out how to get to each location, and once he was done with that, he got up, grabbed his mattress, and lifted it up against the wall.
"So, now that that is out of the way, its time for a small workout I suppose. A healthy mind needs a healthy body, and I dont have anything but my mind going for my now, so I gotta make sure at least that one is working good"
Amused by his own thoughts, he got down on the floor and began his workout. The workout itself was a mix of push-ups, sit-ups, squads, burpees, and many other basic body weight exercises strongly compiled, so that the workout would be as efficent and fast as possible.
Connar had started doing this workout 2 years ago, when he started uni, in order to keep his body in shape, since he knew that with working for money, and studying for uni, he wouldnt have much time to do an actual sport.
Soon his body was drenched in sweat and he was breathing heavy, with each push-up his chest and arms hurt more and more, but no matter the pain, the determination in his eyes just became stronger and stronger.
"Come one, your are almost done, just 5 more!" Connar thought to himself, whilst pushing his body up once more.
Much sweat and probably the best warm shower in a long while later, Connor was infront of the mirror, shaving the stubbles of his beard, when a strong sensation attacked his mind.
"OUCH"
Looking into the mirror he saw that the white of the shaving cream was now slowly turning a shade of red, and he could feel a stinging pain from his cheek.
"I did not cut myself whilst shaving in like what, 5 years, but OF COURSE, today, the one day, were it would be cool if I managed to not cut myself, I do. Why am I not surprised?"
Shaking his head and chuckling at how the word just kept trying to screw him around, he cleaned of the blood, finished shaving and got into his favorite black pants and matching grey shirt.
Still feeling the lingering pain from the cut on his cheek, he got out of his apartment, and made his way towards the nearest bus stop.
The weather was the same as it had been for the last couple of weeks, the sky was full of grey clouds, there was a constant ever so slight stream of rain, and the wind was howling through the strees.
When Connor arrived at the bus stop, his previously nice and tidy ponytail had turned into a wet mess of hair just flying around everywhere in his face, his nose was red from the cold, and he was feeling cold to the core.
"Why did I shower again ? Oh man, why does the world hate me so much? No, you know what, no. Screw this, this is fine, I'll be in the bus soon, its warmer in there, and then I'm gonna get myself a good, nice job, and things will be fine. Come on Connor, positivity."
This in mind, he sat down on the bench at the bus stop, and waited for the next bus to arrive and take him to his first destination: Teko, a supermarket not too far away, that were currently hiring people to work as cashiers.
The job didnt pay much, but the working hours were pretty good, it only took 10 minutes via bus, to get there, and they were gave their employees a discount.
Looking around, Connor couldn't help but feel a little bad for how run down this area of the town was.
The bus stop, which consisted of a small securityglass hutt, with a metal bench inside, was completely wrecked. Both the wall to his left and right, had big cracks in them, seemingly from people either stricking or throwing things at them, the beams supporting the corners of the hutt were full of odd messages and stickers, and the ground was littered with glass shards and cigaretts.
Unfortunately this didnt stop at the bus stop, the buildings all around were run down, the walls full of graffiti, trash everywhere.
It was very obvious, that at least most people living here, but also probably the government of this city, just didnt really give a damn about this area of the city.
Noticing that quite some time had passed, Connor got out his old phone, remenicing about how his parents had gifted this to him on his 16th birthday, and how despite it being quite old, it had never failed him. The screen had no crack in it, and although the battery had been getting worse recently, it was still holding on.
Strangely, when Connor looked at it, he couldn't help but consider it an old friend, that was there whenever he needed it, and never betrayed him.
It may be the fact that he had had so many bad experinces with people in the past, that led him to think this way, or that life just kept being a dick, but to him his phone simply was more then just his phone.
Slightly tapping the home button, the screen turned from black into the a vibrant blue, and his eyes landed on the time displayed in big letters in the middle.
13:43
"Seriously? What have I done in my past lifes to deserve such treatment, I must've killed puppies to deserve this. Okay no, not killing puppies, there is nothing that is enough punishment for people to kill puppies, but still whats wrong with me?"
After these things had happend to him times and times again, he had reached a point of just not really being upset about it anymore, just kinda amused by how idiotic everything just seemed to be.
Shaking his head and chuckling to himself he got up from the bench and said:
"Welp, I guess if the busses decide not to turn up, then I just gotta walk. At least we should've reached the all time low now, so it shouldn't get any worse."
And as soon as these words left his lips, as if the heavens had listened to him, the the rain went from a little bit to it is raining buckets.
"Why. Why. Why did I say that. Of course I'd jinx it. Ah fuck it."
Putting on the hood of his blue rain-jacket, he stuffed his hands into his pockets, and walked towards the supermarket as quick as he could. Whilst walking the rain kept whipping at his face, the wind trying all in its powers, to rip the hood of his jacket.
Unfortunately neither his trusty jacket, nor his brisk walk could keep him from getting socked by the rain, and eventually that, combined with the cold wind constantly around him, he began to feel like he was at the north pole, the cold was invading his body, making even his bones feel cold.
Fighthing through the wind, the rain and the cold, he finally arrived at the supermarket 20 minutes later.
Soaked, and freezing, he entered the shop, but to his surprise, the black board was empty.
"No, they can't have found somebody already, right ? Usually it takes at least 5 days for somebody to get hired, because the want to have many applicants to choose from frist."
He walked into the shop, his eyes wandering around, searching for anybody wearing one of the uniforms all people working in this shop had to wear.
"They probably just figured that nobody looks at the blackboard anyway, so they only posted the ad online, oh that one should be an employee!"
Whilst his mind was drifting, his eyes fixated on a young lady, who was currently restocking the sweets shelf. She was around 1.60m tall, with an average slim figure, and nice long blond hair, put up in a pony tail.
As he walked closer to her, she notcied him, and her face twisted into an expression of disgust.
"Sorry, we don't serve homless people here, please get out."
The words left her mouth fast, and were full of disdain and anger, her eyes glared at him, and if looks could kill, then he would've probably been dead a million times.
Doing his best to remain calm, he stoped walking, straightend up, and in his nicest voice said:
"I am very sorry to disturb you, I am here because of the job offer that was posted on this shops webside two days ago. Please point me into the direction of the manager, and I promise you that I will not bother you any longer."
"The job was already taken. Now fuck off, or I will call security." she sneered at him, her mouth turning into an amused and evil grin.
Connor knew this kind of person, she enjoyed seeing other people suffer, enjoyed abusing her power on the ones who can't do anything about that. And although he wanted to get angry, he took a deep breath and calmed himself.
"I am really sorry, but this is very important, would it be possible to just ask the manager maybe ? I promise you I won't bother you any longer, just please. I am not homless, but I recently lost my spot at uni and I am now in the dire need of a job, I am sorry, that I look at this but the bus didnt run an-"
Before he could finish his sentence, the lady took a step forward, and when her face was right infront of Connors, she sneered, spat in his face, and screamed:
"I didn't ask you for your story, nor do I care, the job was taken now fuck off! SECURITY!"
Hearing this, his mind went blank.
