'Maya?'

'Maya?!' Butland chorused.

The Harpy's wings twitched and extended at the same time as her eyes shot open, blinking as if she'd merely been asleep. 'Why are you both looking at me like I'm a monster? We've been waiting for ages in here; what did you want me to do, keep the others entertained with song and dance? I'm tired, dammit.'

I stepped around Maya, eying her with intrigue, and I wasn't the only one.

Butland was right there with me. 'So, you didn't just conjure a rift outside?'

Maya frowned. 'What do you mean? Why would I do that?'

The Ingaran glanced left then right to ensure nobody was listening. 'You didn't want to cause a distraction? You know, give our team more time to practice while these others are trying to work out what's happening to their realm.'

'And what is happening to their realm?'
