The young girls eyes shone like the ocean as she came running towards them her golden hair which reaches her shoulders jumped along as she ran.
"Alex!!" she called out in glee.
"Hello Emma," he replied as he swooped her up into his arms when she was close enough "How have you been?"
"I've been great but I really missed you," after the last part of her sentence her eyes light dimmed a little but quickly regained their glow when she asked Alex "how was your trip?"
"It was great," he said beaming at the young girl.
"Yay, Mum and Dad will want to see you before dinner,"
"I know," he laughed a little as he put her down.
She looked around and said hello to everyone before her gaze landed on Diana "Who are you?" she asked her curiously.
"I'm Diana," Diana answered the little girls question.
"She's my personal knight," Alex explained.
"Really? You finally got one?" she looked at Alex expectantly.
The others chuckled because of her disbelieving tone.
"Yes, I finally got one." Alex chuckled.
"Mum and Dad are going to be so happy," she explained "they've been on at him for ages to get one see." She explained too Diana putting emphasis on 'ages' Diana just lightly chuckled. "Come on I'll introduce you to my parents," and that was the only warning Diana got before Emma grabbed her hand and started pulling her to the grand hall.
The others just smiled at this before following behind them.
"How did you and Alex meet?" Emma asked Diana expectantly.
"We met when he was going to meet the other four, I was heading for Fortis," Diana explained missing out the part where Alex was attacked which she could tell he was grateful for from the thankful look he gave her when she turned her head to look behind her.
"Why were you coming to a place of war from a place so peaceful like Malum?" she asked looking up at Diana conveying her curiosity in that one look.
"Simple I left home without my parents approval and I didn't want them to find me so instead I left," Diana explained to her without a hint of regret.
Admiration shined in her eyes "Really?" she asked.
"Yes," is all Diana said as a reply.
"That's so brave!" Emma exclaimed.
Diana smiled at this, even if it doesn't meet her eyes.
"I'm sure you're going to love it here," Emma said happily.
"Maybe I will," Diana answered her before they stopped in front of two large doors, burgundy with gold lining. "We're here," Emma smiled and the others stopped beside them. She lifted her hand and knocked before pulling Diana inside, the others just helplessly followed behind the two of them smiling apologetically.
"You've all returned," the lady on the thrown smiled brightly "how was your trip?" she asked.
"Mum, Dad guess what?" Emma quickly started before anyone else could even get a word in grabbing their attention.
"What is it?" the man on the thrown asked smiling warmly at her.
"Alex finally got a personal knight!!" she exclaimed happily but the enthuses on 'finally' is palpable.
They both looked at Alex in shock "Really?" they asked in unison.
"Yes," is all he said.
"Well, who are they?" the woman asked.
Alex just raised an eyebrow at them "Did you not notice the person Emma dragged behind her when she entered?" he asked them and their eyes quickly darted to Diana.
"Your majesties," Diana said bowing to them and releasing Emma's hand. If court educate is good for anything now's the time.
"It's lovely to meet you," the queen said smiling.
"Yes indeed," King Brian agreed with his wife Queen Valeria "may I asked your name?" he asked Diana.
"My name is Diana and I come from a noble family in the Kingdom of Malum," she explained.
"Your surname if you don't mind Lady Diana," the king continued causing the others to react but before they could speak Diana replied.
"My surname is of no importance," Diana replied abandoning her polite tone slightly and instead let a slightly disobedient tone slip in "besides a name holds power and can be used against you to exploit your weaknesses," she continued by the end she had stopped caring for politeness and could feel the others stares of disbelief even Alex is surprised by her tone.
The king just laughed "Haha, you have a sharp tongue and I can tell you're a strong opponent I'm sure you'll do an exemplary job at protecting our son," he acknowledged Diana approvingly.
"You must all be exhausted and I'm sure your parents missed you. Why don't you all head home and I'll have someone escort you to your room Diana. Later on we can give you a tour of the palace." Queen Valeria explained.
"Thank you your highness," Diana graciously thanked the queen before being escorted to my room.
'My rooms not grand and has already got clothes In the wardrobe they must have been sent here when I was speaking with their highnesses' Diana thought before putting her satchel down on her bed. 'My room also has an impeccable view of the Kingdom as well as weapons of different varieties from swords to spears to axes and more, all stored into hidden areas of the walk in wardrobe.'
'They trust me with all these weapons they must be very trusting which is different considering they're at war I thought they'd be more suspicious of me.' Diana thought as she looked around the room from its personal bathroom to its wardrobe to the room it's self.
"I will protect all of them," determination blazed in her eyes as she spoke this vow allowed "No matter how much of my heart is broken and left behind I will protect everyone."
'Knock, Knock.'
Someone knocked on her door as she was looking around the room "Come in," she called not moving from where she is and a male attendant opened the door.
"Lady Diana I was sent to give you a tour before taking you to dinner," the servant explained.
"Of course, thank you." Diana said as he led her through the halls explaining what each room was for until they reached the dining hall. "The king and Queen requested your presence at dinner this evening as they wish to get know you better," he explained to Diana before opening the door to the dinning hall for her.
"Thank you," Diana said before entering "greetings your majesties," she said bowing to them "thank you for this invitation."
"No need to thank us," Emma said patting the seat on her right between her and her mother, Alex sat on her left and beside him sat his farther. Diana excepted her invitation and sat down beside her.
The meal was delicious consisting of divine dishes. "So Diana what made you leave Malum?" King Brian asked.
"Brian," the Queen scolded him "you can not just blurt that out." She hissed.
"It's alright your majesty the others asked me the same question countless times. I left Malum because of my parents they forbade me from becoming a knight as long as I lived within the borders of Malum Kingdom so I left without their permission." Diana explained truthfully.
"You left your family?" Emma asked "that must have been so hard, I wouldn't be able to do that."
"It wasn't actually that hard to leave them behind, they never loved me and it took me leaving to realise how true it is, however I don't regret my decision." Diana replied to her question the king and queen could only look at Diana in shock "Stop giving me those looks," she told them without any care for their titles.
Queen Valeria just giggled "Hehe, you really don't have any care for titles, do you?"
"Not really," Diana answered honestly. The meal went on with pleasant chatter and talks until she excused herself for the evening.
The breeze blew through Diana's hair which she took down after sitting on the windowsill blowing it side to side. The ribbon safely tucked away in her trouser pocket.
The moon shining in the night sky accompanied by thousands of tiny stars.
"It's beautiful here," Diana heard Alex say behind her.
"Hmm," she hummed in agreement as he leaned on the windowsill beside her.
"Sorry about my parents dragging you to dinner," he apologised to her.
"There's no need to apologise, if it bothered me then I would have just declined."
Alex chuckled lightly beside her "Knowing you, I'm not surprised that you would."
After some time of sitting there in peaceful silence Alex spoke up "I'm going to get some sleep, you should get some rest soon as well." He said before walking off to bed.
Diana just stayed sitting on the windowsill staring out at the night sky.
