A Battle To Be Won (1)

Picking up speed with every step they cut down the usual time of forty-five minutes travel by foot back to the Palace to seventeen minutes.

When they arrived they saw a battle enveloping the area. Knight's from Fortis battling against the knights from Noblis.

"Spread out and find the commander of these knights if we stop them the enemie will be less coordinated," Diana instructed before pulling out one of her swords and joining the battle.

"She's right," Alex agreed pulling his sword out as well "let's go," the others followed swiftly behind him joining in the fight.

In minutes they were all separated from each other, surrounded by the chaos of battle. Heading deeper and deeper into its thicket of chaos.

Diana heard someone yell behind her causing her to quickly turn around and blocking the blade that was aimed at her spine. For some reason when they looked at her face they looked surprised using his distraction to her advantage Diana quickly thrust her sword through his stomach pulling it out swiftly. As blood sprayed at everyone and covering the ground in a pool of crimson blood as the mans body dropped lifelessly to the ground.

'What was that look he gave me?' Diana wondered as she ran through the thicket of battle slaughtering every enemy that stands in her way. Helping her comrades who are struggling as she runs along the battlefield searching for the commander of the fighters from Noblis but to no avail.

'I need to find higher ground,' Diana thought parrying another enemyes blade. As soon as they lay eyes on her, they started giving her the same looks like the others 'That's not important right now,' she scolded herself 'I have to win this battle,' she thought slashing through their torso as they drop down dead.

Quickly searching the surrounding area of the battlefield she found the highest area to watch the battle from. Swiftly dodging blades and running through fighters before disappearing into the shadows. Unseen by anyone on the battlefield.

Before getting too far Diana saw someone sneaking up on Alex as he fought off two enemies. 'Damit,' she inwardly thought before using the shadows to her advantage and slicing through them before they could see her or get any closer to Alex.

Quickly turning round she ran towards Alex swiftly jumping over his head and stabbing each of the opposing knights through the necks before they can even defend.

"Thanks," Alex said before wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"No need to thank me I am bound by an oath to protect you not to mention we're friends," Diana said "If you're okay here I'll be off I still have a commander to defeat,"

"Alright be careful," he warned sincerely before re-engaging in the battle before Diana once again returned to the shadows.

As she ran through the shadows of the battlefield she saw the others fighting in their battles defeating all their opponents.

Eventually, she reached the top of the tall wall which was close by and separated the battle from the hastily put up hospital area for the injured knights who can no longer fight in this battle.

'Now where are you?' Diana asked herself luckily from her vantage point she can see the battle far more clearly. After a while of furrowly scanning the battle she found them.

He's a well-built man with blonde hair so bright that it's on the verge of white, he's wearing strong, sturdy silver armour. With a sword that has a burgundy handle and on his blade there's the royal crest of Noblis.

Noblis' crest is of a Phoenix the most loyal animal ever to live supposedly said to have walked the earth. It can burst into flames and rise from the ashes, withstanding any fire no matter the heat or so the legend goes.

Diana can tell he's the commander from the way he carries himself across the battlefield and how experienced he seems.

It seems he's fighting against the king with their swords crost the king is dressed in full armour with a sword with a navy handle and upon the blade sits the crest of Fortis.

Fortis's crest is of a ferocious dragon they were said to have walked the earth centries ago further back then anyone can remember around the same time as the Phoenix. They could harness the power of any element and the colour of their scales depicted what element they could control.

They were only able to control one element each, as no being could be granted the sort of power all the elements combined could bring. However, no one knows if the stories are true they're legends, myths even past down through the ages.

Leaping off the high wall Diana quickly ran hastily to help king Brian fight the commander she kept to the shadows moving quickly and swiftly through the battleground.

'I can't let this war continue raging on enough people have already been hurt or killed because of it,' Diana thought running through the areas of the battleground that have been closed in a shadow of darkness. Blood that has spread to the edges of the battleground staining her boots as she picks up speed.

Reaching the area where king Brian and the commander are fighting Duana took a crouch lingering there. Hidden. Waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Their blades continuously blocking and parrying each other's attacks. Relentlessly fighting not stopping for even a second and neither slowing down.

Just as their blades crossed again the commander pushed back King Brian swiftly brandishing a second sword and hitting the kings from his hand. Before, kicking him squarely in the chest the force sending king Brian to the ground.

The commander lifted his sword ready to rob king Brian of his life.

'Oh no, you don't,' Diana thought before leaping from the shadows and attacking him from the side.

Noticing her approach he quickly shifted his stance blocking her blade.

"You're a sneaky one," he commented as their blades crossed and their eyes locked however, for an instant she saw the same look cross his eyes that the other soilders eyes had carried.

"I wouldn't say sneaky more like skillfully adapted to the shadows," Diana replied with a hint of sarcasm.

"Really?" he asked sarcastically with a raised eyebrow as they both lept backwards away from each other.

Without answering his question she quickly attacked him dodging his left sword as he swings it to block her only to have her next attack blocked by his right blade.

They continued trading blows neither of them slowing down their attacks.

"From your posture and the way you fight as well as your looks I would say that your Commander Dolosus. You've had many victories over the last few years and you are seen as one of the noblest commanders in the kingdom of Nobilis' ranks." Diana explained before asking "Or am I mistaken?"

He was dumbfounded before he quickly regained his composure and answered "No your not mistaken."
