Unfairness

"How old are you turning again?" Alex asked.

"Twelve," I replied sitting down next to him on the ground.

It had been snowing the evening before so there was fresh snow on the ground.

I pulled my hood up. "I never knew it could get this cold here." I murmured.

"Nor did I." Alex shivered.

"Gods, I thanked Khione for the snow, but I regret that now." I sighed.

"Watch what you say about the gods, you already upset one," Alex said in a hushed voice.

"What can I say? The gods hate my dad, they hate me." I shrugged.

"They don't "hate" Hades Peck."

"Yet he's not an Olympian, unlike Zeus, Poseidon, Ares, Athena and all the great Olympians! My dad is older than Zeus and Poseidon, yet he's not an Olympian!"

"No, Peck, listen. The Underworld, Hades realm, was so far away from Olympus, that's why he's not an Olympian."

I looked away, I couldn't help but feel angry at the gods for their unfairness towards my father. I finally understood why children of Hades have such terrible lives, it's full of unfairness.

"You don't think I know that? I just find it unfair, ok Alex?" I looked back at my friend.

"Hey, I get it, but some things are just not fair sometimes and that's ancient history even we can't change," Alex responded.

"You're right, I'm sorry I got mad."

"Apology accepted." Alex smiled.

I smiled and looked out at camp. The sun finally rose and the lake shimmered with golden light, snow started to fall and a cold gust of wind blew through camp.

"I'll try not to upset any more gods." I looked at Alex.

Alex smiled and nodded, "Promise?"

"Promise."
