I pounded on the door of my house. It was a small, grey house with a white deck and door. It had two bedrooms, a small living room, two bathrooms and a kitchen that connected with the dining room. My mom had a small black car parked outside the house so I knew she was home from work.
"Is your mom nice?" Juniper asked.
"Very, she'll love you." I smiled at her.
I heard footsteps coming from inside. The person inside unlocked the door and looked outside. My moms' soft hazel eyes landed on me and a wide smile spread on her face. Her long, brown hair was a mess, she wore a black shirt with a moon on it and black pyjama pants decorated with stars. She had soft peach skin that was slightly tanned.
"Peck, oh my dear Peck!" She pulled me into a hug that made me feel like all my ribs were breaking.
"A little too tight," I grunted.
"Sorry sweetheart." My mom let me go and stepped back. Her eyes landed on Juniper and her smile softened.
"Mom, this is Juniper, another Demigod, daughter of Apollo," I said taking Juniper's hand.
"It's wonderful to meet you, dear. Come, come inside." My mom stepped out of the way and we stepped in.
The smell of cinnamon and caramel hit me as soon as my mom closed the door. The oven light was on and I guessed my mom had been stress baking something she did often.
My mom sat us down in the living room and turned on a lamp.
"So, how have you been?" My mom asked.
"I've been better." I shrugged.
"What do you mean? Did you get hurt?" My moms' eyes widened.
"Yeah, um a monster attacked a Demigod so we went to help. Juniper saved my life when she killed the monster, fortunately, all I have is some scars." I responded.
"Scars? Are they bad?" My mom asked.
"No Ma'am it's really not. As soon as Peck received the injury we got back to camp and I helped her. It only looks bad that's all." Juniper spoke up.
"Phew, are you two hungry?" My mom asked.
"We haven't eaten anything all day," I said.
"I'll grab some cookies." My mom stood up and walked over to the kitchen.
"Your mom seems to be very worried about you," Juniper said in a hushed voice.
"That's just how my mom is, but behind all that worry is a smart, kind, caring and beautiful woman," I responded quietly with a smile.
My mom came back with a plate of cookies and three cups of hot chocolate.
"So, tell me Peck, are you and Juniper close friends?" My mom asked.
A shiver ran up my body and I took a deep breath. "Mom, I- I don't know how to tell you this and I hope you understand, but we're not close friends we-"
"You're a couple?" My mom cut me off.
I nodded avoiding her gaze.
"That's wonderful news." My mom said.
"What?" I looked up.
"I could see it in the way you looked at each other. I wasn't sure if it was true but I'm glad it is." My mom smiled.
"You're fine with me being in a relationship with Juniper?" I asked.
"Of course sweetie." My mother said.
"Well that's one problem solved, now we need to get to August and that Demigod," Juniper said.
"Well, maybe you should sleep or get so-"
"No, mum, we need to go to Manhatten Middle School, the same one I was going to." I cut her off.
"Besides we sleep the whole time Argus drove us here and dropped us off near here. Also, what time is it?" Juniper asked.
"Twenty past nine." My mom checked her watch.
"We definitely got caught in traffic on our way here then." I paused. "We don't know how long this kid has until their teacher turns into a monster and kills them."
"What kind of quest is this?" My mom exclaimed.
"A dangerous one, one where we could, most definitely die," I responded with a grin.
"Are you sure you can do this?" My mom asked yawning.
"Yep," Juniper and I said in unison.
"Can you drive us to my old school? It's time for me to get some work finished." I growled standing up.
