'Wait, what?!'
With scrunched up nose, Luna mumbled to her self. Who are these people? Blessed by Phemistolephes? Levith? Lucifine?! Who the heck-
"Hey! I said, stick close. This city is known for their maze-like streets."
"Yes!" Right... we need to shake them off. I'll worry about these later.
After the explosion, Berin and Luna dashed their way out of the restaurant. They could have teleported but they wouldn't want unnecessary attention. Verasin city barely has more than enough population to have anyone suspicious go unnoticed so stirring a big ruckus would be problematic.
"Stop right there!"
Although Luna wasn't trained on stealth and speed yet, she's catching up to Berin pretty good. Both of them and the guards are running like flashes across swarming people until Berin decided to take a turn.
'Why did we even act sus in the first place?'
Luna looked back at the guards chasing them at the sound of more footsteps and clanging blades when suddenly, after she looked back, Berin was gone.
"Where the heck did he go?!" her heart pounded.
'Ahem! Calm thyself! Aside from knowing nothing about this place, I have my brain. As long as I lost them in these streets, I'll have to find Uncle right after.'
She took corner every corner but the guards always find their way and now were able to trap her in a deserted alley. 'What did I expect if it's their territory to begin with?!'
Just when she was about to jump for the roof, a hand grabbed her from behind and snatch her inside a rotten wooden door.
"Hmp! Hmp!"
"Shut up! Unless you want to get caught, that is." whispered a teenage boy wearing a black hood with a cloth wrapped around half of his face.
With a ragged breath, she stopped squirming.
"Damn! Where did she go?!"
"She must be hiding somewhere! Search every corner!"
Luna peeped in a small crack on the door. "Hm guhnga hain huh. (They're gonna find us.)" as loud footsteps echoed everywhere.
"I said shut it!" the boy hissed, covering her mouth tighter.
Just then, the door was destroyed, flying chunks of wood everywhere. One knight led the way as the other two with lances tailed behind him. 'Did they not saw us? We were right beside the door they just bursted.'
Luna stared at the boy who's been covering her mouth since and found him staring at her intently. She narrowed her eyes and raised her brow at him as he looked away.
"Noone's here!" The knights walked out of the wrecked house they were in and retreated with the others wearing grim faces.
"Thank you. I'm guessing you're a sorce-..."
Before she could finish her sentence, he unsheathed a dagger behind his back and aimed at her neck. Her instincts quickly reacted and twist his arm with the dagger before trapping it on her underarm and used her other hand to punch his nose, sending him centimeters back. Luna immediately got up and dust off her clothes as he regained his composure and pose a stance, his dagger pointing at her.
'Appraise.'
[ Kami.
It is the second dagger of the three dagger collection forged by Bapham, son of Thassan, himself. The second dagger is made out of a chimera's tooth slain by Bapham and has the ability to wield magic through its owner's tone of magic. "It would be a shame to just kill me after going through so much trouble." he released a sigh and retract his dagger before relaxing his posture.
"I was only going to threaten you. But if you told anyone about what happened here, you wouldn't be able to live another day."
"Oh really? At least look at me when your threatening..." Luna, chuckling.
"I'd hate to impose on a little girl." The boy started to walk towards Luna and leaned a bit. "And you're welcome. You were just so pitiful running around like a rat chased by some cats." and started to walk out of the crumbling house.
"Hah. I didn't ask you to help me, did I?" and stormed pass the boy out of the house.
Suddenly, Luna felt a strong gush of wind that lift up her cloak and turned her once red heavy cloak into a dirty white knee-length hooded cape, making her snap her head into his direction.
"You already know... so using it again would make no difference."
"You know what... why the hell are you helping me? Don't even think that I believe your bullshvt. I don't even need your help. Perhaps you're an assassin sent by the King to deceive me. But that was too fast..." mumbling the last words to her self.
"Pfft. Haha! What? An assassin? Is it wrong if I'm that generous? Plus, all of the guards knew you were wearing a red cloak by now... should I also change your hair?"
"My hair?-" Luna touched her head when she realized her hood was already down and her hair flowing on her shoulders. 'This is bad. Did they all saw?'
With Luna distracted, the boy started to raise his hand and aimed at her before slowly twisting it. Her hair then floated on the air and shimmered. Before she knew it, her white hair turned ginger.
"Hey! How dare you! Earlier may be generosity but this is already impertinence... Maybe you really are an assassin." without thinking twice, Luna summoned her scythe and point its blade on the boy's face. "Thank you but it wasn't necessary."
Before the boy could even blink, Luna charged ahead and aimed for his head. Fortunately, he was rigorously trained everyday which gave him a much faster reaction speed to summoned his dagger.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The boy could not even comprehend how this little girl has monstrous strength and speed for her age. Of course, Berin is in a different league than this boy so for him, Luna is simply vey fast. He just felt ashamed that he was being forced to his limit by a little girl. Although despite Luna's high stats advantage, the boy's experience closed a bit of this gap.
'Aerial Steps'
After the boy activated a stealth skill, he ran on walls after walls of the buildings nearby. "I hate to say this but I'm not an assassin. However, I would be very glad if I were."
Trying to follow the boy's movements, her head whipped from side to side. "And why should I even believe you? You have the skill and you're even clothed like one!"
"Sigh. Whatever. It doesn't matter, As you said, it really is a shame killing you after going through all that trouble. However may I remind you that you attacked and tried to kill me first. Don't blame me for your young life to end."
As soon as he said that, he pivoted through his heel and head towards Luna's back. "Of course, I won't..."
Without turning her head back, she twirl her scythe once and slammed the end of the handle into the ground, propelling her up higher than him before doing a back flip and flung her scythe's blade unto him. Once again surprised by the turn of events, the boy can only block with his dagger and crash hard on the house they hid earlier, a small crack visible on the blade's dagger.
With a smooth landing, she walked over to him and draw her scythe close on his neck. "... because you'll blame yourself instead." and raised her scythe.
But as the blade touched his neck, someone called her. 'Luna!'
The cloth that was wrapped around the boy's neck started to drench with blood as he immediately released the breath he's been unconsciously holding the entire time. So the blade actually pierced his skin.
'I'm coming.' with how their mind link was activated, Berin must be somewhere near.
"You're in for some luck. I don't particularly like owing someone something so think of this as the payment for the generosity you said you gave. Hope you won't get to meet me again someday or else the thing that didn't happen today will happen again. Goodbye."
And with that, Luna walked out of the house and jumped for the roof leaving only the boy with utter shock and disbelief. He was going to die just now. No, he should have been dead by now. His heart is thumping like crazy but he's got to admit that him almost dying was not the cause... it was her. His pride and ego were now gone. Because of her, he had tasted the vigor and enthusiasm he was looking for for so long. And now, he wants to taste it again.
