Parting Gift

"Before you guys leave I have something for the both of you." Serene said, reaching into her bag.

Serene pulled out two nicely wrapped items and handed them to us. Alice and I exchanged looks for a moment before putting our attention on her.

"I appreciate the thought but you didn't need to do this." I said.

Serene shook her head, "I wanted to do this. Anyway, please open your gifts."

Alice and I shrugged at each other and opened our gifts. In my gift there was something that looked like it attached to your wrist while Serene's was a ring.

"Is this what I think it is?" Alice asked with an astounded look on her face.

"I gave you a ring that'll increase your Magic's power." Serene said with a proud look.

With the look Alice was giving Serene it was probably a really expensive gift. It was my first time seeing a ring like that so I wouldn't know. I began to wonder how much the grappling hook cost. I noticed a small button on it and almost immediately pressed it. A small hook suddenly shot out of it and hit a tree close by.

Serene and Alice both turned to me with a confused look. Serene noticed what I did and gave me a smug look, "you might wanna brace yourself."

What did she mean by that? The hook suddenly started moving and sent me flying towards the tree. With a loud crash I slammed into the tree. I fell onto the ground and just laid there. Alice and Serene both appeared above me and began to laugh.

I slowly picked myself up and dusted the dirt off my clothes. My head still hurt from impact but it wasn't in severe pain or anything. I think.

"Why'd you click the button?" Serene asked, still laughing.

"Why wouldn't I press the button?" I asked.

"I should probably be heading back home now. Drop by and say hi once and a while would you?" Serene asked.

Alice and I both nodded. Serene gave us both a smile before running back into the town. Alice and I stood there in silence for a while and watched Serene until she was out of view.

"Think we should go back and get Genki? I know I just got a new weapon but I don't want to risk getting into a fight with another Genmochi user." I said.

"You probably should have just brought him with to begin with." Alice said with a disappointed look.

A large crash behind us caused us to turn around and see what happened. Morgan was on his knees in a small crater. I could see him holding onto a sword that seemed all too familiar.

"I finally found you guys. John, why'd you just leave Genki behind? You should bring your Genmochi with you wherever you go, unless weapons aren't allowed. In that case don't bring your Genmochi." Morgan said, brushing dirt off his shoulder.
