The Matter of Freya V

"One of our members might have gone a little too far with his actions but it was just him and it was not like he directly moved against you." Horn tried to argue.

Loki only grimaced.

'Trying to dodge responsibility is never a good move when trying to get help from the injured party. When said party has a lot to lose and little to win by helpin' and is as petty and vengeful as Noxy is . . . Then it's a terrible move liable to get ya into even more trouble than what ya started with . . .' The red haired goddess thought to herself.

Finn was of a similar opinion and even Ottar thought it was a bad move but got no chance to stop her.

"Oh please." Nox said with some very noticeable disdain.

"We both know none of you sycophants move without your goddess' permission, no matter how jealous, bloodthirsty or stupid. So saying it was just him is nothing but an insult to my intelligence." He continued.

"As for not directly moving against me . . . Torturing and attempting to kill my pets seems like a pretty direct attack. It is quite obvious that you wanted to bait me me into taking action, you all simply did not expect it would go so badly for your piece of shit vice captain." Nox concluded, not sparing any consideration or bothering with any further politeness.

After he was done with his piece, silence settled in the room. Ottar and Horn were quiet because Nox called Horn out on her total bullcrap while Finn and Loki were silent at the sheer disrespect and lack of consideration in Nox's choice of words when making his point.

"From your silence I think you got my point. Now that we are all properly situated in regards to the matter at hand, let us go back to discussing terms shall we?" Nox said.

"Intangible benefits which rely on the strength of your word are worth squat to me since you have proven untrustworthy. As such, if you want to make me work, you better give me something solid for it." He added before clamming up and waiting for Horn and Ottar to speak.

"I understand you point. We don't really know what to offer so it would be best if you could tell us what you would find suitable." Ottar simply and straightforwardly replied.

Meanwhile, Nox fell into though. Everyone deduced he was thinking on what to ask in exchange for his cooperation but in reality, he was thinking about the situation at hand.

'Their reaction to my less than polite way of getting my point across was too calm. Even if Ottar is not the type to get riled up by that kind of provocation, Horn certainly is but even she clammed up. Way I see it, it means Freya's situation is really bad.' Nox deduced.

'Now . . . There is honestly nothing I can think off that I could want from the Freya Familia, at least nothing tangible but . . .'

'If Freya is really going off the rails as much as I think she is, then meeting her to try and fix the issue before the situation escalates, even without proper payment, is probably in my best interest. Most likely in the entirety of Orario's best interest as well.' Nox thought to himself.

It was a tough choice. One one hand, going to Folkvangr and settling things with Freya before everything blew up out of proportion was the right choice, both in terms of morals and benefits.

On the other hand, taking an action that would straight up benefit a group that tried to screw him over, taint his reputation and go after his beloved pets in an attempt to provoke him, did not sit well at all with Nox.

'Damned if I do, damned if I don't.' Nox though with an internal sigh.

'Well . . . Let's at least make them sweat a bit. Who knows? Maybe they'll come up with something I like, otherwise, I'll just extort some material goods out of them, even if I don't exactly need them, and be done with it.' He decided.

'It is still best to let them make an offer though. Otherwise, if I ask a price significantly lower than what they are prepared to pay, I'll self immolate from the disgrace.'

"To be honest I can't think of anything you can give me that I'll be truly interested in either." Nox casually said, putting the guests on the spot.

Horn and Ottar were not too sure were to go from the current point forward, the ball was back in their field but they too lacked any ideas on what to pay Jun with.

He was so rich he would probably never run out of money even if he sincerely gave his best to spend it, getting him powerful weapons or items was meaningless since he could make better versions of them or even outrageous things likes of which the world has never seen.

With his wealth and connections, he was probably not lacking in materials either as for fighting strength, not only was he extremely powerful himself, he was also a part of the second strongest familia in terms of combat prowess in Orario so he needed to further assistance in that regard either.

Nox literally could want for nothing and that made it incredibly difficult to hire him. After all, what could you give to someone who lacked nothing? What could possibly tempt them to work for you?

There were certainly things Nox wanted, his ever constant search for security by continuously making himself more powerful and harder to kill was certainly far from over after all.

Alas, the only one who could help him in that endeavour was Nox himself so it was not something others could feasibly take advantage of.

Eventually, though, Horn came to a similar conclusion as Nox did previously . . .
