The Brightest Places

. . .

"Take me to all the brightest places," Jin said, "My arch-nemesis."

Arch-nemesis. That was the last thing he'd want to call Zeirenne, but hearing himself say it made him feel at home. They were never competing against each other ever since childhood, but he would often scrunch his nose whenever Zeirenne did a bad job at his favorite subject--Math. At the same time, she would always smile at him like a devil whenever they played an instrument. He was tone deaf, and she had to pin her lack of math skills on someone--and that was Jin. The greatest mathematician she'd ever known.

"Tsk. This is no longer valid," she said while snatching the letter--but Jin was fast to raise it out of her reach. She opened her palms with one hand on her hips like an old lady asking a thief to hand her purse back. "Give it back."
