Chapter Five

"Actor Simon Trent is facing sexual misconduct allegations as..." said the reporter as Jim Gordon turned off the TV.

Gordon then got up to take the garbage out. He put it in the trash can and turned around to go back inside but saw a dark figure. He jerked back, startled.

"I assume you're the bat of Gotham they were talking about." Gordon said.

"I am." Bruce responded in a deep disguised voice.

"What do you want from me?" asked Jim.

"As you've probably guessed," said Bruce. "I'm not a fan of Commissioner Bullock's task force."

"Me neither." Jim responded.

"I know." Bruce replied. "That's why I'm here. I was hoping I could convince you to talk to him."

Jim turned around and started pacing.

"Don't you think I want to?" Jim asked. "I was going to speak out about it but I have a family. If I said that the task force was a bad idea and that you're actually doing a good thing, the social media mob would torpedo me."

Bruce sighed.

"I get it. You've got a lot to lose." said Bruce.

"Maybe you could talk to Bullock directly." Jim suggested as he turned to face Bruce.

But no one was there.

Bruce got back in the batmobile and drove to Commissioner Bullock's house. But when he got there, the house was engulfed in flame and there was an angry mob outside. The masked rioters got a hold of Bullock and beat him to death.

"Bu- but I did what you wanted!" Bullock screamed as he died.

Bruce leapt into action to defeat the bat-wielding maniacs. They were taken out easily. Too easily. Suddenly something came flying out of nowhere. It knocked Bruce over swiftly then floated there, hovering. It was holding a flame-thrower.

"And what are you supposed to be?!" the creature asked in a distorted, male voice.

Bruce threw a batarang at his arm, causing him to drop his flame-thrower. When he flew down to grab it Bruce kicked him to the ground and put his foot on his chest.

"I am the night." said Bruce.

"You can call me firefly!" screamed Firefly as he snatched his flame-thrower and pulled the trigger causing Bruce to dodge it.

Firefly darted up and started to fly away. Bruce fired a grapple gun, the rope wrapping around Firefly's leg. The pyromaniac fired another shot but Bruce jumped out of the way. He threw a batarang at Firefly's flame-thrower, breaking it. Firefly flew away angerly. Bruce got back in his car and drove around looking for crimes to stop.
