Chapter 9

Peter looked back at the house to make sure Mrs. Karen was not watching, he slowly climbed over and down the fence and had his back against the fence and held out his hand with the carrot. But Peter did not know that Eagle Bear was watching from the kitchen window. Eagle Bear just smiled and kept watching.

He slowly walked towards the horse and looked into his eyes.

"Come on boy, I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to be one with you," said Peter.

The horse started backing up, Peter stopped and sat down on the ground and waited. The horse just starred at Peter, then the horse looked up and then back at Peter. The horse slowly walked towards Peter, Peter held the carrot out and he started eating from Peter's hand, then Peter slowly got up and started petting the horse as it finished eating the carrot. When finished the horse just starred at Peter once again then lowered its head and Peter continued to pet the horse, then the horse stepped sideways and got down on his front legs, Peter watched the horse go down. He was excited, he jumped on the horse, the horse got up and just stood there with Peter on its back. Eagle Bear just smiled from ear to ear.

"What are you smiling about?" asked Mr. Walker.

"Oh nothing," smiled Eagle Bear.

Mr. Walker walks over and looks out the kitchen window.

"What," said Mr. Walker.

Eagle Bear grabs Walker by the arm.

"Leave him, he is okay, he has become one with the horse," smiled Eagle Bear.

"But that horse is dangerous, he has not been broken in yet, he is still wild, I can't let Karen sees, she'll scream and spook the horse," said Walker going upstairs to get Karen away from the window.

The horse slowly started to back up to the other side of the fence.

"Where are we going young pony?" Then Peter looks ahead and then back down at the horse. "Are you going to do what I think you're going to do?" Peter looking towards the fence in front of them.

Eagle Bear slowly walked out the back door and into the barn, he jumped on his paint horse and waited for the wild horse to jump the fence, so he could follow them. Peter Wolf closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"Okay, young pony lets go," said Peter.

The horse started to run and he got enough stamina he jumped the fence. When the horse was over the fence, Peter opened his eyes and started to look around.

"Hey, you did it young pony, good boy, now where are we going?" asked Peter.

The horse started to walk. Eagle Bear came out of the barn on his horse and followed behind. As Peter was riding bareback they saw a lot of things along the way. The horse stopped and Peter got off. The horse started to eat the grass and drink from the small stream. The small stream was surrounded by mountains.

"Wow young pony, this spot is amazing, I can come up here and just sit and think about stuff maybe even write another story," smiled Peter looking around.

As he was looking he heard something in the bushes. Eagle Bear stopped and got off his horse and sat down watching Peter the whole time. Peter just stood still and the horse stood still and watched the bush.

"Who's there, come out, I am not afraid of you," Peter reaching in his pocket for his small knife.

Then a small wolf pup comes out from under the bush.

"Aww," Peter sat down on the ground and the horse went back to drinking water and eating the grass.

The pup stopped and just looked at Peter, then he started to a small growl. Then the pup started to get curious and slowly walked and sniffed. Then he was sniffing Peter's leg, then got on him and started sniffing. Then Peter reached to pet him and the pup let him. Then Peter started to hold the pup. Then he put the pup down.

There was another noise in the same bush. This time it was an adult black wolf with beautiful yellow eyes. Eagle Bear had his knife ready just in case the wolf decided to attack Peter, Peter had his knife ready just in case. The black wolf just stopped and stared at Peter, the horse was looking as well and just went back to eating the grass. The wolf and Peter looked into each other eyes, he was becoming one with the wolf.

The wolf slowly walked towards Peter, with his ears down and tail down, like a submission mode. Then he crawled toward Peter as Peter was still staring at the wolf. Then Peter slowly reached out his hand and started to pet the wolf, the wolf enjoyed that. Then he started to howl, it was the most beautiful sound ever, Eagle Bear shook his head in an agreement and smiled, "he's ready." said Eagle Bear.

"Sweetheart don't get upset, Eagle Bear is gone and so is Peter," said Walker.

"Why would I be upset, Peter is safe with Eagle Bear," said Karen folding the laundry.

"Yes, but Peter is on that wild horse," said Walker.

"He's what," said Karen.

"He's on that wild horse, the horse jumped the fence and Eagle Bear followed behind, he's okay, he's won the horses' trust," said Walker.

"I told him not to go near that horse, it's dangerous, what if that horse got spooked and bucked him off, he could be out there laying on the ground hurt, or a wild animal got a hold of him, " worried Karen.

"Karen he's fine, Eagle Bear is right there, you don't think Eagle Bear would let him go off alone like that?" said Walker.

"Well no, he wouldn't," said Karen.

"The boy will be fine, I promise," said Walker.

"Okay," said Karen folding the clothes again.

The pup and the adult wolf ran back towards the bushes and vanished.

"Wow, that was so cool," said Peter.

Eagle Bear just smiled and watched.

"Spirit of the wolf, you who wanders in the wildlands. You who stalks in silent shadows. You who runs and leaps between the moss-covered trees. Lend me your primal strength and the wisdom of your glowing eyes. Teach me to relentlessly track my desires and to stand in defense of those I love. Show me the hidden paths and the moonlit fields fierce spirit. Walke with me in my solitude, howl with me in my joy, guard me as I move through this world." said Peter looking up at the sky.

Then he walked over to the horse and jumped on him.

"Let's go home young pony," smiled Peter.

So he left, Eagle Bear followed from behind. When they arrived Eagle Bear rode into the barn and walked back inside the house. Peter looked around and opened the gate to let the wild horse into the fence and he closed the gate and went inside the house.

Karen was in the kitchen cooking and Eagle Bear was sitting on the couch watching tv with Walker. He walks in and sat down in the living room as well.

"So what else did you explore?" asked Walker.

"I found some small caves, and I met a wolf pup while I was exploring and an adult one as well," said Peter.

"That is dangerous sweetheart, you need to be careful of those wild animals," said Karen.

"I know I will, but it was so cool, it was like I was getting into my inner Native if that is even possible," smiled Peter.

Eagle Bear and Walker just laughed.

"Yes it is possible," said Walker.

"Supper is ready," said Karen putting the roast, mash potatoes and green beans on the table.

"It smells good," said Peter.

"Yes it does, " said Eagle Bear.

So they walked to the table and sat down and started eating. Then there was a knock at the door.

"I wonder who that could be at this hour?" asked Karen.

Walker got up and had his handgun behind him as he slowly opened the door. When he opened it, it was a police officer.

"How may I help you?" asked Walker putting his gun away.

"We need your help, we got a call from Red Blueclouds place, saying domestic violence," said the police officer.

"I'll be right there," said Walker going back to the table.

"I have to go, honey," said Walker.

"That's alright, its part of your job," said Karen.

So he ran upstairs to get ready, he came back down the stairs and left.

"I hope he will be okay," said Peter.

"He will, they always call him on the reservation," said Eagle Bear.

So they continued to eat, when finished they all cleaned up and went upstairs to get ready for bed.
