"Ms. Iris, how can I help you today?"
"Ah, I'm really sorry for bothering you Mr. Principal"
"No, not at all I'm actually glad I have some company. This old man here only works all the time so having someone to talk to from time to time is refreshing"
"Well if you say so, I want to ask you about something"
"Feel free to talk about anything you like"
Iris now facing an opportunity thought
"Time to find out who you really are"
Both of them stayed quiet for a while
"Mr. Principal can you please tell me about your granddaughter?"
The principal was certainly puzzled with the topic at hand, never did he expect someone would come up to him to ask about the so-called queen or elite of the school.
"My granddaughter huh? Very well since you made an effort to approach me for this matter I'll entertain your curiosity young lady"
"Thank you, sir"
"I'll begin"
And so the untold story of the pseudo genius queen is brought to light.
------------------------------------
"Strive and be the king of your own destiny"
A simple saying that circulated through a dynasty of success. A company raised from the ground up through sheer effort ever since the day it was founded.
The company motto simply states that if you work hard enough you can be in control of your destiny as working hard invites success and a bright future. So employees always lived up to this saying while working. Dreaming of a bright future in which they can control their own destiny without thinking about failing and losing to destiny ever again.
March, 28. 1966 the fateful day that would change their company. A young boy was born from the love of the founder and a lady that captivated him. This young boy would soon inherit the company and bring fortune. That's what they believed as he was the offspring of a business-minded genius and a skillful lady.
They weren't wrong about that, soon after his father died he took over and instantly produced results the company has never seen before. The company became one of the biggest in Japan.
The boy lived a simple but sad childhood, Renji was his name, he never experienced the joy of becoming a kid for he was tasked to become an elite who can garner the kind of success his father has brought upon their company. He was always studying and focusing on things that are related to the world of business. The other kids from his school never approached nor talked to him for they knew who he was. For them, he was a person beyond them.
He was like a robot, always doing things properly and orderly. And all of these bear fruit, in the end, he became an elite and a genius on things he did. But he was yet to experience the joy of life, he didn't even have someone close to him to even call a friend.
After some time Renji has now reached college and just like his younger days he was still at the top. A college is a place full of different personalities and desires so it wasn't long before people hated him because they felt inferior to him. For a while, it seemed like he was about to finish school alone again. But that changed after an incident he got involved with.
In life, there are always people who are number one and of course, there are also those who are second to them. Yazaki Kenta was the person who was always next to Renji on the rankings. He was the only person who held a candle against the almost robot genius in their school. Unlike Renji he wasn't an elite nor a special person, Kenta was born into a family who wasn't rich but wasn't poor either. He got into college because of a scholarship given to him in exchange for his academic excellence during his highschool days.
Since their school was a place for elite and rich people he was often bullied for the entertainment of his classmates. One day as he was getting bullied again, Renji, his classmate happened to pass by. Sensing he can be helped by his classmate he called to him.
"Renji!" He called out to him
Renji was surprised that someone called out to him since everyone avoided him in class
"What do you need?" Renji replied
"Oh? so you know this bastard Kenta?" The bullies asked Renji
"I would be lying if I denied the fact, but we aren't close" Renji calmly replied
The bullies threw Kenta to the ground and shifted their attention towards Renji. Sensing he can escape Kenta mustered enough strength to stand up and run. But before he could get away someone called out to him.
"You drag me into your problem and then try to escape?"
Kenta turned around to see the bullies lying on the ground
"How!? it was three against one, why are you still standing?" Kenta asked
"Only a fool and a coward would think that self-defense isn't important" Renji replied
Kenta was amazed by how calm and cool Renji was during that time and thought to himself that maybe he could be like him someday.
"I- I'm sorry" Kenta bowed his head while apologizing
"Let this be the last time" Renji replied before walking away
And after that he kept pestering Renji to be friends with him, at first Renji opposed that idea since he thought friendship isn't important but not long after he found himself drawn into Kenta, and then they became the best of friends.
Years passed and Renji is now growing old and sick.
Now that he fulfilled his destiny he thought about the future that was waiting for him.
"Everything returns to what it was before, all living things die. And when that day comes acceptance is the only solution even for a king" He stated while sharing a drink with Kenta
"Is the end nigh?" Kenta asked
He nodded and continued
"Push your body to the limits almost every day and you'll soon meet death. In the end, kings are just humans too"
Kenta sad about knowing the grim future that awaited his friend simply replied
"Naturally you need a heir"
Renji was silent
"But you focused too much on trivial things such as work and success you never experienced what it's like to actually live"
"A sad life controlled by my destiny"
"Indeed, I bet even a straight forward genius like you would've enjoyed love"
"Love?" Asked Renji
Kenta nodded
"I too was a product of love, but my father cursed me with the future of his empire"
"I think even your father wanted you to experience it too, but you only focused on his will to continue this business" Kenta replied to him as he put his hand on his shoulder
"Perhaps" Renji replied
Both stayed silent for a while and drank the alcohol in front of them.
"Live the life I never had for me will you old friend" Renji suddenly told Kenta
Kent shocked with what he heard couldn't say anything
"The next in line for the title king will be the child born from the love you will find" Renji continued
Kenta stared hard at him
"I don't have much of a choice do I?" He replied before letting out a short laugh
"I shouldn't be the only one who's cursed"
Both of them shared the best laugh they've had in years.
Many years later, the king died and his friend was left with the curse to raise the next king in line.
What bitter destiny the friends shared.
------------------------------------
Ever since ancient times, humans have always been afraid of curses. Not to mention the pressure of expectations. Combine these two together naturally it'll break and destroy you.
"I'm sorry old friend, looks like I failed you"
An old man whispered while standing in front of a gravestone in the middle of the rain "Is this how it feels to live with a curse?" He continued
Before he could say another word a man dressed in a fancy suit approached him
"It's time to go back sir" He whispered
The drenched man nodded and started to walk away. Before heading inside the waiting car he looked back and whispered
"Till next time old friend".
Kenta who was tasked with raising a suitable heir was now growing old. After Renji died he was appointed as the new head per orders of his friend.
He also found love and was blessed with a boy named Koji. But he succumbed to the pressure and fear of failing his friend, thus repeating the same mistake the father of his friend once committed.
His son was raised in a very strict manner that focused only on the business potential aspect he had. His father would only interact with him during his studies and talks about business. The only person who showed him love and interest was his mother. But sadly his mother died before he could reach 11, and now he was stuck with his father. Not long after he turned into a serious person who thought of nothing but success.
"How's school?" Asked his father during one of the dinner they share once a week
The way his father asked seemed like he only wanted to hear about good results and didn't care about what he did at all. But he too didn't care about anything, as long as he produced good results he'll be contented.
"The same" Koji replied nonchalantly
"Continue as usual" Was the reply he got
"Okay"
His father lit a cigarette and asked a question
"Do you know about the company motto?"
Koji nodded in response
"Would you rather live a rich but hard life alone or a poor but happy life surrounded by people you love?" His father continued
"Isn't it ironic you ask me about love" Koji replied
"Indeed" He whispered as he puffed the inhaled smoke from the cigarette
"Why the sudden love interest again?" Asked Koji
His father was shocked as this was the first time they talked about something apart from business.
"You feeling the heat again?" Koji jokingly asked
His father suddenly looked up to Koji and to his surprise, his son was smiling while looking at the window.
They both shared a short laugh.
"Back to your previous question father" Said Koji
"What about it?"
"Why would I choose to be poor if I can be rich. And there wouldn't be a reason for me to choose love too as I am the living proof of your incompetence when it comes to love"
His father remained silent
"If I would ever look for a partner it would be for the sole purpose of finding an heir. Isn't that how we do it here?" He continued
"I see" Replied his father
"Thank you for the dinner, as usual it was good, Give my compliments to the chef. I'll take my leave now" Said Koji as he stood up and prepared to leave
"Sure"
As soon as his son left the establishment he poured himself a cup of wine for old times sake and lit another cigarette. With every puff of smoke, he released was a faint sigh.
"I truly have failed you friend" He whispered as he looked across the view of the city.
His first sip of wine after a while tasted awfully sour.
------------------------------------
Throughout their dinners, they never talked about something like that ever again. And now years have passed his son was now a father. At first, doubts and disappointment were visible on his face as the heir that was presented to him was a girl.
All of the heir to the company up until now were solely males, this was the first time a female heir was introduced. He felt defeated and failed as he was the one who ended the tradition.
And now this brings us to the story of Yazaki Hime.
------------------------------------
Geniuses always have it easy, that's a norm that has been around for a long time. People think that being naturally gifted in certain aspects is a cause for celebration and praise. And geniuses naturally feel good and think highly of themselves.
But no one actually talks about how hard it is to become a pseudo genius.
"Hime, you disappoint me"
Those were the words that Yazaki Hime always heard while growing up.
Unlike her father and the past kings of their company she wasn't a natural genius, to be accurate she was below average. She learned how to speak and read at the late age of 4.
So naturally, his father was disappointed in her as he had placed lots of hope to her into succeeding him in the title of king.
The only consolation she had growing up was her loving mother who stayed patient with her and loved her despite her slow nature.
It wasn't until she was in third grade before she got a perfect grade in an exam and obviously she was happy and excited to show it to her parents. Of course, her mother was happy and praised her, she even told her that they will celebrate during dinner later.
Her father always comes home at night but is never late for dinner.
The night of that day both Hime and her mother greeted him with smiles,
"What is it?" Her father asked
Her mother was telling her to show it to him now, but young Hime was shy so she was hesitating a bit
"I don't have all night to waste on you" His father coldly stated as he started to walk away
Young Hime was eager to make her father proud chased him and showed him the paper
"I- I got a p- perfect grade in our exam" She said while trembling
"So?" His father coldly responded
"DEAR!" His wife shouted
"Hime worked hard for that so at least praise her. She finally achieved it this time so at least be happy for her" She continued
"It's only a third-grade examination why should I be happy about that? Not to mention it took her this long to achieve it is not worthy of praise" His father looked at her with disdain
Young Hime upon hearing those harsh words from her father started to cry and the only comfort she has was the embrace of her mother.
"I lost my appetite I won't eat don't bother me now" He said while walking away
That day while crying in her mother's embrace, Yazaki Hime swore to become a person her father would praise and look at.
------------------------------------
Since that day her mother has become worried about the future of their family as Hime now became too absorbed in studying to even care about anything at all.
Even in school, she has started to change, she started to shove people away in order to fully focus on her goal.
It only got worst as she entered middle school as she now harshly criticized people for their failures so naturally, she was shunned by them which she liked.
"Useless stupid people have no right to know me" This was the mindset she set for herself
And not long after she started to look down on people with disdain. But it didn't bother her as now her father shows a slight interest in her because of her academic achievements.
As her father would put it, she was now becoming a pseudo genius.
After all these years of hardships while chasing the attention of her father she now got him to acknowledge her. But she knew that it wasn't enough, she still needs to do something.
To surpass her father.
------------------------------------
Her mother seriously worried about the current state of their family approached her stepfather who was now a school principal.
"Father what should I do? my dear Hime, day by day she's starting to become like him" She exclaimed
"My dear Miku I'm sorry this was my fault" Her stepfather replied
"If only I didn't raise him so strictly he wouldn't turn out like this. In the end, I was no better than the first king" He continued
Her stepdaughter was now crying and he couldn't do anything as he was the person to blame.
"Someone please save them" Her stepfather prayed
But no one heard him.
Years passed and Hime was now a first-year high school student. Her mother was now mentally unstable because of the shock from the changes they all underwent.
"Father I ranked first in all aspects of the entrance exam" Hime proudly told her father
"I see, don't let me down" He replied
"Of course" She replied before leaving her father's office
Before the start of classes, she was summoned by her grandfather.
"Hime I heard about your achievements" Her grandfather also praised her
"Thank you for noticing it grandfather"
"I'm looking forward to watching you succeed"
She nodded
"Hime" Her grandfather whispered
She was shocked as it's been a while since someone called her by her name. People just referred to her as president as she was always ruling the schools she attended.
"Hime?" His grandfather repeated
"Yes? sorry, it's been a while since someone called me by that name" She replied while lowering her head
"Is that so?"
"I'll take my leave now grandfather. Once again thank you" She said before leaving
Her grandfather stood up and looked at the school from his office window thought
"Your name huh?"
He remembered he also hasn't called his son by his name in years.
"Renji, it seems like your family curse is still haunting me" He mumbled after letting out a long sigh
"Hime you're just like your father now" He continued
"I'm sorry my son, Koji" He lastly added.
This was the start of her reign among the school.
------------------------------------
"And now to give her welcome speech let's welcome the first-year representative, Yazaki Hime"
The applause of the student body filled the auditorium
"Good day everyone, it is I, the representative of the new students here and I wanted to say this first, please don't bully us"
Everyone laughed
"It is an honor to study in this decorated institute and I'm also looking forward to learning and making friends here so please take care of me and the other first year students"
The auditorium was once again filled with students applause
"Did you think that was what I'm going to say?"
Everyone shifted their attention back to her and uttered
"Huh?"
"Let's make this clear, I, Yazaki Hime will become the president of this school and rule over all of you" She announced with a proud look on her face
"And another thing, I don't take no for an answer" She added
She gracefully walked down the stage while wearing a sinister smile as she returned to her seat
Silence filled the air of the school auditorium as everyone felt her intimidating aura and they all got cold feet.
Not long after that, she won the election by a landslide, even though they felt uneasy they all voted for her as her influence won them over.
On her first speech as the student council president, everything changed
"Everyone, how are you doing? Good, I suppose. As you can see I won just like I said before. And now that I'm in charge don't think I'll be easy on you. Now I'm the queen of this school so what I say will be considered as the rules. And of course, as queen all who will disobey or cause trouble for me and everyone will be punished accordingly and you guessed it, I'll conduct the judgement"
Cold air and a heavy feeling filled the auditorium as everyone bore witness to the birth of the elite
The pseudo genius queen.
