24. Their parents...

The gate closed and even Anna Gale shook in fear as she saw their quick run and open jaws filled with sharp teeth.

Zombies were usually slow until they didn't target their pray and then they turn into these things.

"Are zombies evolving?" The teeth were not normal human teeth then row of sharp things looking like saw.

*Some zombies will evolve.*

This information made her shiver. As long zombies were nothing then dead, rotting bodies that will fall apart soon, it was still manageable. They had only to wait that they stop moving and finish them off in few months.

But now that some evolved meant the hard life humans had will become even harder.

"Will humans evolve as well?" Her question was normal as she considered this situation they are in at the moment.

*Humans will not evolve.*

So zombies, the biggest threat to all living force here will evolve and everything else won't?

Great...

"Then survivors in my world won't be able to survive." Yes, she held grudge against own parents that chose to abandon their three daughters, but she still couldn't jump and wish them death.

She was a bit worried about their survival.

*Humans tend to find way of survival in any kind of situation. Not all zombies will evolve and most zombies will fail to do so and die in latest one year.*

The evolved zombies at that time can be fought.

"Can I see the map of my city please?" She never asked about the other map as they were in this world, but now the map of their city appeared and she neared the picture.

The survivors in that base were thousands. The walls of the base were thick walls and in the back was hard mountain stone.

Long line of people stood to take as it seems bowl of soup and when she neared she realized how thin that thing is.

They had problem with supplies.

"Do you think we can help them somehow?" Anna Gale glanced at the people that walked towards one tent and sighed.

Their mother ate some and gave more than half to their father. She was just bony person and Anna was afraid that she might die if she continues this way.

Her father obviously refused to see her situation and grabbed the soup to drinking it.

Some people pointed at him but he just argued back and pushed his wife into the tent without care of how weak she was.

Anna glanced at her two sisters and spoke. "I'm afraid if we show our father our gate ability, we won't be able to survive. Our foolish mother is so crazy about him that she agrees to such a thing."

Just as they spoke she saw people turning head towards the tent and pointing at it.

Suddenly their mother was literally kicked out and rolled few times in ground.

Few drops of blood trickled down her lips as she fell and fainted.

Two soldiers rushed there and pointed guns at him. Their father acted always strong and ruffian like, but was actually afraid of people that are stronger than him.

He shook his head and pretended that he wanted to help her up but soldiers were not stupid and made him go back into the tent while calling emergency.

Their mother was taken away and they left.

Just as everyone was gone their father came out of the tent and suddenly one of those women that came to the shelter came to him and hugged him.

With a large smile he patted her back and just went back inside the tent.

Anna Gale moved picture away from the disgusting man and saw open-field hospital and their thin mother on the bed.

She was now awake and just was numbly lying on military bed. Her eyes had dark shadows and her thin face was devoid of any emotion as she took something out of her pocket.

A picture of them three.

Anna Gale looked at her kissing the picture and sighed. It seems their mother came back to her senses after she went to the shelter.

One of soldiers came to her and she gave the picture to him with a pleading expression and explained something.

The soldier pointed at the walls and patted her hand with a smile.

But as soon he left far enough he sighed as he glanced at the picture of the kids and shook his head. It seems he didn't believe they survived this long.

"Do you want to live in base with mother or here?" Anna Gale didn't feel comfortable leaving these two kids alone at home.

"No. If we go there we will have to live like them. Sister, what about making sure mother knows we survived." Michelle Gale suddenly had an idea.

"We can send her notice that we survived with group of people and they took us with them and run away." Alice glanced at their sister.

Electricity did t work, but la d phones did.

In Mrs Stevenson house was an landline phone. If they could find out the number of this place then they could call.

*Call? You mean communicate with these people using ancient methods?*

Anna Gale was stunned. Well this sentence made sense actually. Old land phones were considered already ancient on time of digital evolution and use.

"Yes. But we don't have ability to do it from here. And we must find their number..." She thought of the phone book in the phone booth and already considered to grab one day after.

*I can call. But you have to pay with time of open gate.*

By now that was the only thing they used toe exchange between the gate and them.

Is gate alien life firm, a deity, a system, who knows what it is.

But whatever it is, it helped them a lot in last few days.

She got stunned by the failing tone echoing in the silence of the room and soon a male voice answered. "Camp McGowan. Officer Tiller on the phone. Who am I speaking to?"

"Hello, I'm Anna Gale and would like to speak to my mother. She is in this camp and I need to speak to her quickly." Anna Gale was astonished about the situation, but more astonished was the soldier on the other side.

A survivor found their number?

How....?
