Chapter 4

Next morning it was raining hard, everything was getting wet and a little flooded.

"Aww, its raining," said Madison disappointed.

"Rain is good for the earth and the animals," smiled Luther.

"Yeah but it makes it hard for us kids to play outside," said Madison.

Gloria and Luther just laughed, Gloria started cooking breakfast. As the rain was hitting the window, Black Elk started to wake up. He heard the rain hitting the window. So he slowly stood up, trying not to reopen or make the wound bleed. Then he walked towards the window and opened the curtains and looked and watched the rain. Then Gloria walks in.

"Brother! You shouldn't be out of bed, you need more rest, more time to heal properly," worried Gloria.

"I'm fine, it doesn't hurt that bad," said Black Elk putting his long sleeve shirt back on.

"Are you sure?" asked Gloria.

"Yes, I'm fine," said Black Elk.

"Okay," said Gloria.

"Is he up?" asked Luther Standing Bear.

"Yes he is, and he's eating as well," said Gloria.

"Good, I'm glad to hear that," said Luther Standing Bear.

Black Elk walks out of the room with his plate empty.

"That was good, you cook very well," said Black Elk.

"Thank you, brother," said Gloria.

"Your welcome," said Black Elk.

"How are you feeling son?" asked Luther Standing Bear.

"I'm fine dad, a little sore, but I think I'll be alright," said Black Elk.

"Good," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Are you really my uncle,"? asked Madison.

"Yes I am," said Black Elk.

"So are we Indian to," asked Maria?

"You can be whatever you want to be," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Wow, mom I want to be an Indian," said Madison.

"Me to," said Maria.

"Well you guys are half Indian and half white, so that makes you half-breeds, like me and your uncle, except your uncle got lucky he has darker skin than I do, he goes out in the sun and he turns darker, me I turn red and burn because I am so fair skinned." Said Gloria.

"Just like Victoria, she's dark skinned as well," said Maria.

"Yes she is, she gets it from your father," said Gloria.

"Where is she?" asked Black Elk.

"A couple of men and a witch doctor came and stole her from me," said Gloria.

"A witch doctor?" questioned Black Elk.

"Yes, like the stories we use to hear form our parents and grandparents," said Gloria.

"Yes, I know, that witch doctor as captured and killed in our village, so maybe Victoria is with some of our women?" asked Luther Standing Bear.

"I know him personally, we met face to face one time, but that was a long time ago, I was just a kid," said Black Elk.

"Yeah, I remember that, he put a spell on you that almost killed you," said Luther Standing Bear.

"I don't remember that part, I was in and out," said Black Elk.

"Yes I know, honey what do you want to do?" asked Luther Standing Bear.

"Help me find my daughter and bring her home, she's just like you brother, always getting into stuff, like going outside all the time, tracking, playing with the horses, riding them bareback, going into the woods and play pretend, she's good at shooting any weapon, whether it be a gun or a knife, even a bow, she's good," said Gloria.

"That's good," said Black Elk.

"We can start searching for her tomorrow morning at dawn," said Luther Standing Bear.

"What about brother, he's still healing?" asked Gloria.

"I can ride sis, I'm alright," said Black Elk.

"Alright, we will look tomorrow morning," said Luther Standing Bear.

So they got up from the table and went to bed, Gloria changed Black Elk's bandages and cleaned the wound, and then he went to sleep and Gloria walked out and closed the door and went to her room and laid down and went to sleep.
