Soon painful cries of jackals could be heard from down below the wall, making ones unable to comprehend how much pain they were suffering. Many died instantly with only a few able to escape with severe burns. Alfred was sure that those who survived, only a few would be able to make through the night.
But Alfred had no pity in his heart. Why should he pity those beasts? This wasn't Alfred's late world where these animals had to protected because they might get extinct. This was a savage world where these monsters regularly hunted humans for food.
Just as the last beast ran off to the forest, Alfred and the others fest a sense of relief. Everyone previously tense nerves, stated to loosen and for a few breaths of time a peaceful silence showed everyone in the wall. But it was shattered as a sense of jubilation took over everyone.
The serfs cheered and hugged each other. They had defeated their worst fear. Form the moment they were sold as a serf, many feared that will become food for the beast in the Everwinter fortress. But now, not only they have defeated their worst fear, they have concurred it with there own two hands.
Not only the serfs were celebrating and singing victory songs, Alfred's knights were happy as well. Never before hey had fought with the wild beast and won without losing a single man. For them this result was no less than a miracle. And they were quite happy about it.
"My Lord, looks like your plan succeeded. We are finally able to defeat so dammed beasts and able to win against them without any losses." Nathen said with a smile on his face.
Alfred nodded acknowledging what Nathen said. He too was jubilant in his heart when he saw the spending victory won by ragtag militia group which he started training not so long age. He was happy that his hours of planning and brain storming was not in vain was changed the outcome of the battle so greatly.
For all the jubilation and all the celebrating around him, Alfred knew this was not the end. In fact, it was the beginning. He had won the first battle, but he has yet to win the war. The winter was just starting and there was still a long way to go before he would be completely out of the woods. But todays battle gave him and others greater hope of survival, than they previously had.
Just as everyone including Alfred were busy celebrating, the bells on the walls started to ring one after another. All the jubilation, all the celebration suddenly came to a halt as everyone suddenly became alert.
Alfred and his knights rushed to edge of the wall to see the what they were up against this time. Just as they laid eyes on the beast that just emerged from the depths of the forest, everyone including Alfred's spine felt cold. It was as if what lay Infront of them was not a beast but their worst nightmare.
The serfs who were just had gained confidence in the previous battle, suddenly started to tremble in their boots. Many weak minded ones directly lost feeling in their legs and fell into despair.
"My… my lord, a level three beast." Someone yelled.
Alfred was just as fearful as everyone. The beast that come out of forest was a level three giant python. A beast so strong that anything that Alfred currently had in his arsenal was not even enough to scratch its scales.
Not just its defence, any level three beasts were so strong that they were considered nightmare in the northern lands. They usually lived in the interior of the woods and often feasted on Level one and level two beasts in the winter and rarely made there way towards the wall. But when they did, let's just say not many people were able to survive. There were a couple of times when these level three beasts annihilated the defence of the tree families and kill every defender.
They were often associated with nightmare and calamity as destruction and death followed whenever they appeared.
Alfred at this point was lost and did not know what to do. He nor had the strength neither had weapons capable to hurt such creature. Alfred clenched his fist on frustration. Why? He just won his first battle. Why did a mid level boss suddenly appear nowhere?
"NO, the damm beast did not come out of nowhere." Alfred deduced. "It was probably lured because of the smell of the blood. Yes, blood. All those dead corpses lured it out of the forest. But aren't this beast a little too fast. The battle has not been over for long and it had already made it way out of inner forest? Is its sense of smell that strong? Or was it lurking nearby before the battle? Damn it what should I do about it." As Alfred recked his brain in desperation, Nathen clenched his fists as if having made some kind of decision.
"Rudolf, Redhead you two come with me. We need to distract the beast to buy time for the lord. You four, escort the lord back to the castle and if lord protests make sure to drag him back. Remember, our top priority is lord's safety." Nathen calmly ordered.
Rudolf and Redhead nodded their head without batting an eye and agreed to what Nathen said. And as for others they hesitated for a second but looking at the situation they too agreed.
Alfred on the other hand, quickly protested. "No, you can't do this to me. Nathen this is no place for you to make any decision. I said I will not go anywhere means I will not go anywhere." Alfred felt helpless. Although he did not have a death wish, somehow, he did not want to run with his tail between his.
"My lord, I cannot listen to your orders this time. Even if the lord feels ashamed of running, please know that for me and the Autarch family, your survival is the only way forward." Nathen persuaded.
Just as Alfred was contemplating about his options for a final time, systems voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
[Host why fear when the system is here.]
Alfred eyes lit up. "System old buddy, do you have any super cool, super OP, super lethal skill with one hundred percent KO rate to take out the dammed python. Laozi's life depends upon you now." He asked with great enthusiasm.
[No.]
"What?"
[No, the system has no such options. As far as the system know. And again, the system informs host that this system is a pure support type system.]
"Then what do you have?" Alfred asked again with disappointment in his voice.
[Remember that system has a taming function?] System reminded.
Alfred's eyes lit up.
"You mean to say, you can tame the level three python for me? But doesn't that require MP?" Alfred asked.
[No and Yes.]
"What?" Alfred asked with confusion.
[No, system cannot do that currently and yes host is right. Taming any beast requires MP. And taming a level three python is a pipe dream for the host as it will required 3750MP to achieve that. So, it is not possible to tame the python.]
"Then what can you do?" Alfred asked with a little frustration in his voice.
[What system meant to say that, remember the level two wing eagle that we tamed a while back I the dungeon?]
"Yes? It fell asleep after that." Alfred complained.
[It evolved-]
Before Alfred could understand what system meant, he heard a loud bang, like someone directly breaking a wall. When he looked back, his eyes registered a faint shadow taking flight to the sky. He looked up, only to find that it was an eagle that was circling the sky in a majestic manner.
[into level three storm eagle] the system completed his sentence.
The python and the eagle on there part quickly sensed each other's existence. As if one mountain could not hold two tiger scenario, the hostilities between them became apparent. Unable to tolerate the others existence, the python made the first move and got ready to spew poison on the eagle.
Eagle on its part, did not wait for long quickly dived down, turning into a blur and went for the kill. With its great advantage in speed and dexterity, the eagle was able to take lead, and was able to catch the python using its strong and sharp claws and took to the sky again.
In the confrontation between these two level three titans, it appeared the eagled had the slight edge over the python in speed and was able to catch it before it was able to attack.
The python after getting captured by the storm eagle, tried its best to free itself from the eagle's claws. But it was all in vain. Each time the python tried to free himself, the eagle tightened it hold over the python, and soon as if annoyed by the pythons attempts to free itself, the eagle directly snapped the pythons head, ending its life ones and for all.
