Before Ben and the tetramand could clash, Ben felt someone trying to communicate with him through telepathy. Ben deactivated the simulated training site and turned to Zatanna after receiving the message.
"Unfortunately, this will have to wait," He said.
"Why?" Zatanna asked, surprised by the sudden change in Ben's mood.
"An old acquaintance just contacted me so I'll have to leave," Ben explained as he put the omnitrix back on.
"Can I come along?" The magician asked.
Ben pondered the request for a moment before ultimately shaking his head.
"I don't want you included in this," He hesitantly said, "The world I'm going to is more...dark."
"I can handle the dark, Ben," Zatanna pouted before chuckling.
"To be honest, I just don't have the fondest memories of where I need to go so I don't want you to see a different side of me."
Seeing Ben's grave and serious expression, Zatanna agreed to stay behind.
"Want me to drop you off at Central City?" Ben asked, "Or I can take you to my entertainment section here. No reason to worry about staying here for too long because a few days here is only a few seconds back in your world."
"That's cool but I should see if the League needs any help preparing for Darkseid's invasion," She said.
"I'll take you back," Ben offered her his hand, "I also want to say bye before leaving."
----------------------
The founding members of the League were seated around their conference table, discussing the surprise delay of Darkseid's invasion.
"Are you sure this intel is accurate?" Superman asked Batman.
"All of our agents and satellites confirmed it," The dark knight replied.
"Do you think that tremor from two days ago had something to do with it?" Wonder Woman asked.
"That could very well be possible but what caused it?" Martian Manhunter queried before tilting his head.
"What is it?" Green Lantern asked.
"Zatanna and Omni have returned," He answered.
"Finally," Superman said, "They just completely disappeared from our radar yesterday."
--------------------
"Well, I'll meet up with you later," Ben said to Zatanna as they appeared in the space stations cafeteria.
There were only a few leaguers in the room and they barely acknowledged the appearance of the two since they were seen earlier during the fight of the first wave of the invasion.
"Ok, but be careful, not that you'll need to be," Zatanna grinned.
Pulling her close, Ben captured her lips with his own. The magician melted into his embrace and reciprocated in kind. After a minute or two, Ben sensed the presence of Barry and slowly extracted himself from Zatanna, her face revealing that she didn't want the kiss to stop.
"We've got company," Ben whispered in her ear, making her jump in surprise.
Zatanna turned around to see Flash grinning.
"Were you just going to watch us?" She said angrily.
"No, even if I wanted to, Ben here sensed me immediately," The speedster replied, "Good to see that you guys are alright. You dropped off all of our radars yesterday."
"Sorry about that," Ben said, still holding Zatanna with one arm, "I had to take care of a problem in my universe and Zatanna tagged along."
"I bet," Barry said with a chuckle, looking at Bens arm around the magician, earning him a glare from her, "But anyway, what was the problem if you don't mind me asking?"
"Just an old enemy making a reappearance but I dealt with him," Ben's eyes grew distant as an aura of death surrounded him.
Zatanna noticed and Barry felt himself sweat.
"Ben?" Zatanna said, bringing Ben back from his daze.
The terrifying aura dissolved, leaving the usual, cheerful Ben.
"Sorry about that. It got a bit heated over there," He said.
"O-ok," Barry stuttered a bit before recovering.
"Sorry about disappearing on you guys but I have to do it again," He started, "An old friend reached out to me for help so I need to."
"That's fine but do you happen to know about the tremors here a couple of days ago?" Barry asked.
"Yeah, sorry about that too," Ben sheepishly replied, "Those were a result from my fight."
"But weren't you in your universe?"
"Yep but I had to get a bit serious with my opponent and it was an omniversal threat."
"Omniversal? And you took care of it yourself?" Barry couldn't believe it.
"Yeah, but I don't want to get too much into it right now. I do have to go," Ben said before giving Zatanna another kiss.
"Who do you need to help?" She asked.
"A god," Ben replied before disappearing, leaving both of the leaguers surprised.
