_P R O L O G U E_

12 years earlier.

       "The sun'll come out tomorrow..

Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow.. There'll be sun..

        Just thinking about tomorrow..

Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrows... 'Til there's none.."

Maeve awakened to her and her mum's favourite song.  She smiled, caught up in her mum's voice. She always wanted to be like her. At least, alpha wasn't around so they had two days of peace before hell began again.

The little girl stretched and rolled over to see her mum knitting a sweater two sizes small for her. "It's for me then!!" She squealed in her head with glee before rubbing her eyes to get rid of the remnants of sleep.

She yawned and leaped from the bed to hug her mother, excited for what the day held.

"Morning, mama" She chirped and stroked the long dressed of her mother's long white hair.

Her mum's soft voice floated towards her as she turned to reach for her faded pink gown that was her 7th year birthday present. Her mum saved for months to get her that gown and a cake.

"Good morning, ómorfi. Come eat breakfast then you can go out to play. I'm knitting this sweater because winter is near.. I won't want my favourite flower to catch a cold, now. Would I?"

Maeve giggled and shook her head, her pale white near silver, shimmery locks flying about. She pulled on her gown and went to the standing sink to brush her teeth.

Her mother set her crotchet pins down together with the half done sweater and moved to the little gas at the corner of the room to open the pot and ladle some oatmeal into a chipped bowl before moving across the bare and dilapidated room to reach her child.

They lived in the Bloodmoon pack and they were omegas. Though Maeve was born into it, Kore was not.

Maeve accepted the bowl gratefully and thanked her mother.

Kore smiled at her nine year old pup, she was the most understanding and matured child, too matured for her age at times.. She mused silently and sat down to continue her knitting.

Kore was the alpha's daughter, her father's pack was the dusk pack. She was betrothed to Derek Simone, the next-in line alpha to the Bloodmoon pack. Her father, Alexander Natchon made a pact with Derek's father and betrothed her against her will to Derek as they deemed it wise that the children of the two most powerful packs marry and have powerful heirs- It was possible because it was rare for an alpha's first child to be female, so her being female sealed her fate.

She despised Derek and didn't want to be in an arranged marriage because they both had mates out there. She begged her mother to help change her father's mind but like her father, her mother also wanted power.

A month to their marriage, Kore found her mate, Adam Stone. It was love at first sight. She often snuck out of her house at night to be with him. She made sure they weren't caught each time they had their rendezvous.

She loved the thrill of sneaking out to be with her mate till Derek started getting suspicious. They had to stop but on their last night together, two things happened. Someone saw them and reported.

Adam was brutally executed the next day and Kore had to deal with the fact that her future husband murdered her mate, she also lost her wolf due to the death of her mate.

The second surprise was that she was pregnant which she found out three days to the forced wedding, Her scent changed and Derek found out. Her parents banished her from their pack and disowned her and Derek who was obsessed with her became mad and demoted her in his pack to the only omega so she had to clean the whole pack house in her condition.

Kore sighed and stared at her daughter, at least she had her. She smiled and reached out to peck her daughter who was making a flower crown with the flowers in the vase.

"I love you, Maeve. Always remember that. You will be great, you'll see. I'll make sure of that. Meanie Derek won't be able to put out your flame. No one can out out your flame except you, ómorfi. But your courageous spirit won't let you."

Maeve's eyes sparkled as her mum showered love on her, she nodded and kissed her mother's hand. They were all they had left in this dark world. She let go of her mother's hand to return to her flower crown and began to hum their song.

" When I think of a day that's grey and lonel..."

Her song was interrupted by the pack alarm. Her mother's eyes widened and she dropped her crotchet pins. Maeve's eyes teared up due to confusion. Her mum snatched her up and opened the door leading outside. She sprinted across the spacious field that separated them from the huge packhouse. Her eyes were wild with fear and determination to keep her child safe.

"Ómorfi, promise me that if anything happens, you'll run and never look back. Don't look for me or anybody else. Don't trust anyone. You're alone in this world, so don't trust anyone. Everyone is a suspect because things aren't as they might seem. I love you, Maeve."

Maeve tried to catch a glimpse of her mother's face as she ran across the field. There was still a gigantic distance that seperated them from safety, Derek wanted their house to be far from the packhouse so her mother could suffer walking to and fro every day. She didn't understand why her mother was making her make such promises and she didn't understand why her heart was suddenly filled with dread.

"I-I I don't u-undersand, mama." She stuttered out only to be frozen with fear when wolves poured out from the forest heading straight for  them. She recognised them immediately as rogues.

" You don't have to understand now, Maeve. Just promise me you'll live and not just survive." She snapped at her daughter, growing tired already as her wolf was absent.

Maeve nodded and whispered, "I promise, mama." She couldn't shake off the feeling of dread that pooled in her belly.

Kore smelt the rogues as they drew closer and her eyes teared up with frustration and desperation, she had to ensure Maeve lived. She had to MAKE sure Maeve lived. She screamed in frustration at her wolf that she hadn't heard from in nine years, the wolf that supposedly died as the axe chopped off Adam's head.

"I don't know if you are there, Keane. I don't know if you're still with me. This is not the time to ignore me like you've been doing for the past nine years. Our pup, ADAM'S pup is about to die so if you still have some feelings left, help me.. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!"

She began to feel a stirring in her soul, Keane was coming out. This may be her last feat on earth but she would accomplish it. The rogues were very close now and Keane was still nowhere to be found physically.

"KEANE!! DO IT FOR ADAM!! Do it for Maeve.. Please.."

She was slowing down now because she was almost human and Keane wasn't showing up. She lost hope and stopped running.  She pushed Maeve who was bawling but continued to run. She turned back to hold off the wolves anyhow when her bones began to crack. She screamed in agony and morphed into a giant white wolf.

Kore howled before running towards her child and picking her up, heading straight for the pack. She dropped her gently with Laura, her only friend and looked at the two females that meant the world to get the last time before facing the rogues, they would pay.

Maeve tried to keep up with the blur of her mother's wolf fighting off the rogues but before she knew it, the battle ended..

And the aftermath made her freeze.

Her mother's dying wolf lay on the floor with about thirty rogues lying dead about. Two warriors went to finish off the remaining five who were heading for the forest, retreating but all she could see was the body of the mother's wolf.

"No!!!! Mama, stay with me." She ran to her side after breaking out of the trance the shock put her in. She shook her but her mother's breath was laboured and the flicker in her eyes died out gradually. She gently shook her again and lay her head on her mother's fur, trying to block out the harsh whispers that flew around.

Weak.

Pathetic.

Her weakness killed her mother.

She deserves to die, just like her whore of a mother.

I wish the alpha was here to see this. He'd be happy to get rid of her.

"You promised y-you'll stay.. You p-promised.." She yelled out as she tried to ignore how much the words affected her, sobbing heavily now.

Her mother's wolf nudged her hand with her head as she fought to stay with her pup but her time had clearly come, she could see Adam calling her.

Taking her last breath, her eyes closed and she went limp. But the moon goddess had other plans. Her mother's wolf spirit rose visibly and Maeve tried to block out the shocked gasps of her pack members as she concentrated, surprised at the unusual scene.

It rose high as if it was going upward before changing direction and heading straight for Maeve's little frame.

She stumbled back as she felt her mother's wolf slam into her.

"Mama..",  She whispered before blacking out.
