"Florence! Come downstairs and tend to Lilly." My mother whose name is Anarka, called me to come down to feed my pet spider, a black widow. So I did.
"Besides you're going to school!" She announced.
"Coming mother!" I quickly got out of my bed to go to school. I then changed into my school uniform and dashed to the bathroom that was connected with my room and looked at myself on the mirror, combing my jet black long hair to a pony tail, along with my bangs that veiled my right eye patting it down. My hazelnut brown eyes then scanned the sink for my toothbrush till I found it laying right next to the paste. I did my personal hygiene and scrambled for my bag and jacket and clambered down the stairs.
I then saw my mother hastily placing my favourite food down on the table because I could almost smell something burnt on the stove which my mother took care of. Anarka had greenish blue eyes, which was pretty rare to have and did look abit tired. It seemed she didn't have enough sleep last night because she said she needed to do something. Her long brown hair whipping around firmly when she saw me.
"Morning darling how your sleep?" She asked warmly smiling at me, as her tan skinned hand, pushed a lock of hair from her mouth and face.
"It was great mother." I stated because I actually did have a great sleep. I then saw my pet spider crawling around, but it sensed me. It quickly crawled back to its place. As if to tell me its been good and didn't cause any trouble, waiting for me to give her its breakfast.
"How is my Lilly!" I exclaimed when I saw her redoing some strings on her Web.
Lilly loves eating little insects so I'd give her the insects I've killed and single-handedly give it to her, with bare hands. Lilly was definitely awake as she uncoiled herself from her current pose and carefully crept along, the silky, wet, woven web that she had made. She then extended out a transparent string attaching it to the Web, letting herself down to get her early morning daily breakfasts. As soon as the spider wrapped the bug within its Web, it wiggled those all familiar eight-legged legs. A way of saying thank you, and retreated back to its den...or Web.
"You're welcome," I whispered then smiled warmingly at it seeing the spider go back up again in its home...where everything feels safe. Where you can be yourself and do things you are more comfortable in doing. I don't want to pretend, and I hated it. Which has given me this thought.
"Mom, can I not go to school today? It's judgy...pretty judgy." I pleaded, but earned the opposite answer that I was expecting from her.
"Florence, we've been over this conversation before, they won't think bad of you." Mother exasperated telling me anew that I shouldn't jump to conclusions about it. And that I go there only to learn and not to get distracted.
Oh she doesn't know how much I wanted to stay at home. How my mother didn't know my classmates about how they treat me. The teachers never giving a thought about it even if I told the principle. about the bullies but I guess they wouldn't listen.
"Heh, I highly doubt tha--"
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLORENCE FOX!" Ray, my Father, then busted through the door, surprising me litterally out of my seat.
"Father! You're back!" I hugged him dearly and closely. He was normally away in his business trips overseas and hardly came home but we would always get in touch with him on face-time, though it is different in person. Now that he was here, it was really a huge surprise for me that brought tears to my eyes that I litterally cried because I have always longed for him to be with us, making it my complete family. Sadly, it wouldn't last that long so I'd have to cherish our family reunion.
"Indeed I am." He chuckled at my reaction, wiping my tears lovingly. His tired, greenish-blue eyes then shifted back to the present at hand that he brought with him. A present covered in red and black wrapping paper. This made me cry more.
"Sorry if it's only a small gift but I hope you'll like it. There are amazing adventures within this gift. And because it looked special I thought it would suit you, though it may look beautiful, but nothing can be compared to you." My father replied heart warmingly. Although it sounded a bit mysterious, though not in a bad way, it was enough to make me get excited and shiver with delight. But I just shrugged that off. I couldn't question my father's gift for me, not now though. For so long have I waited for this day to come and see him again.
"Dad, you didn't have to. You are my best birthday present, that I could ever ask for!" I said lovingly. Not all people would be happy to see their fathers or mothers, when they've come back from work, that they would soon betray their trust. My family, though is loving, kind and different from all the others.
"Alright wow, thank you Florence, but it's about time for you to head for school. Though meet me at the backyard later on, would ya?" Ray replied, with a wink. I smiled greatly. Alright, I shall go to school for my father and for whatever awaits me at my backyard. Ray then gave me a kiss on the head, while my mother kissed my cheek as I was about to head out and They both hugged me tight like how any father and mother would, to their daughter. I too hugged them back.
"Bye Dad and Mom! Love you!" I hollered back and made my way to my unavoidable destination...school.
What could possibly be the surprise from my dad, that is awaiting me?
I can't think of that now I have to concentrate. The only way I cope with this, is that I would look up at the great blue sky, showing some white, floating fluffy layer of clouds with birds that chirp with delight. As if I am flying off the ground.
On the way to school though, I stumbled across this young man about my age. A blondie who had astonishing blue eyes, was tan, who was a few inches taller than me and his attire was of a uniform like mine. I knew right then and there that he was part of my school, though I have never seen him before in the previous years. He must be a transfer student. So I power walked up to him and came along side him to talk about whatever it is that'd lead me.
"Hey, I'm Florence Fox, what's your name?" I thoughtfully asked him, seeing if he was alright walking by himself with no one to talk to.
"Oh, er, hi the name's Aaron. Aaron Anderson." He timidly answered, looking away clearly seeing his head crease with discomfort. I can relate to him anyways. I mean how would I feel if someone just pops out of nowhere in my life and says, 'Oooh wazzup!' It'll be a disastrous conversation and they wouldn't be long lasting friends anyways. I hope this one could be decent.
"So, how old are you?" I asked trying to take on a converstaion with him, while trying to think of more questions to ask him in the process and believe me it's energy-draining.
"I'm 19 years old...you?" He quietly answered but then deflected to ask me the same thing. Great.
"Wow, same here. I'm 19 years old as well." I awkwardly beamed at him.
"So you're new here, huh?" I questioned, pushing my jet black hair back to its place and my bangs out of the way, I think soon I'll have to trim it.
"Yeah I am and I think you'll have to trim your bangs." I froze. How in the world did he know what I was thinking?
"How did you-"
"Well, I knew it from the moment when you annoyingly tried to push your over grown bangs, back to its place. haha. Besides it's obvious." He replied quite smartly. And I have this feeling that this was going to be an interesting day.
"Well, alright Sherlock what else did you observe." I playfully smirked at him, crosing my arms expectedly.
"Haha, that's all I know for now I still have lots of things to learn. I have always wanted to be a Psychologist." He said, his tone of voice said it all, and he visited his dreamland in his head. I've been there.
"Hmm. According to your phone's appearance and the amount of dust in your phone case you either got them both a year ago or you got the case a year ago and your phone a few months ago." I said taking him back down to earth, to reality.
"You're good. As a matter of fact, I did get my phone a few months ago and this case a year ago. Pretty accurate I must say. What did you want to be when you grow up?" He asked out of curiosity, his eyes show that sparkle in his blue eyes, the twitch of his smile being eager to know who I have always wanted to be. My brown eyes looked up to him and tried not to chuckle at this eagerness. Though, I am glad he is finally trying to open up to me without being afraid to show his true color. and to making our friendship stable.
"Well, Aaron I have always wanted to be a great artist, as well as a great forensic scientist. Though I still don't know what." I told him quite deep in thought.
"Well, that's interesting. I'd love to ask more questions about that. Sounds interesting but I think we're here now." He said scanning his new boarding school. Fortunately, my school is not very far from home, it felt like a 15 minute journey to the school. That's what I like.
I looked to Aaron wondering why he was silent. I then saw his face growing pale and creasing in fear but he calmed himself down and stood strong as if he was in a movie.
"Please don't sing, just saying, if you were about to." I laughed to myself. I then wondered why I would ruin a moment like this but his bravery was unbareably cute in a way.
"SHUSH." He snapped teasingly and laughed along too. Playfully glaring at me, shoving me lightly.
"Hey, I'm sure it'll be fine. Meet me at this tree at recess?" I asked, pointing to a tree near the gates, how it was adorned with numerous healthy, green leaves. Providing shade and comfort.
"Wow, a nice place to meet at the first day of school. Looks peaceful." He awed at the amazing sight before us.
We never got to take in the beautiful veiw, even though the building of the school made it look bad but still, nature has its quirks. When we walked onour way here, we have missed out on most of the beautiful birds that flew all around us in radient patterns. The clear blue sky making an extraordinary pathway for the sun to shine through onto everything its rays touches, and the opaqued objects creating the shadows or silhouettes that we see every day. Then the best compliment goes to the amazing daisies and flowers growing, feeding on the sunlight.
Though I couldn't stare at it for long because I then glanced at my watch showing the time of 8:33am. O snap! We have to get ready soon enough.
"Aaron, let's go we have to get ready!" I spoke firmly, so we wouldn't get distracted.
"Shoot! You're right! Meet me back here alright?" He jumped with worry.
"Sure!" I exclaimed, and did power walks inside the building determined to not be late again.
We then sprinted to our classrooms to line up and be on time for our, teacher's morning roll calls. Earning a few eye rolls and head shakes from Aaron, knowing fully well what was going to happen next after the calling out of names. A boring, noisy class within his classroom. He may be a transfer student but he knows these stuff well.
"See ya Aaron!" I hollered, chuckling to myself, as I waved to him as he started to go into his as well as I was. His class was right next to mine. Mine was English and his was Science.
I finally have a good and decent friend. I hope it'll last. I also hope he wouldn't be changed the more he gets used to the school, unlike my previous friends.
My class then went in and placed our bags nearby, on the floor, right next to us. Our teacher, Mrs. Campbell who was unexpectedly, a great teacher to start with. She had purple-framed eye glasses on her frail, tan skinned face with some freckles scattered on her skin and her long light brown hair with some highlights of white hair along with it with dark brown eyes that are kind and firm.
Though the second thing was that, there were bullies... Yes there were, obviously. I couldn't cope with this that I just let it slide for now. Bunch of blockheads!
Just when my luck started to go uphill, someone walked pass my desk and intentionally stepped on my bag.
"Hey!" I hissed. When my oppressor turned around, she evilly smiled. Her long brown hair tied up into a bun, her hazelnut brown eyes, covered with heavy mascara on her petty face, looking straight at me trying to 'dare' or fuel me with rage into doing something that was inappropriate within the school principles or rules.
"Oops? Sorry? Not sorry." She replied nastily, laughing on her way back to her desk. I rolled my eyes behind her back clearly fed up with this. Tiring me out, especially with all this thinking within school and its curriculums.
I never liked her one bit. Right then, my head started spinning but then I calmed down, making a play in my mind about what if I was I was so good at something, for example, race car driving. I laughed at the thought. I would love to beat her in a car race and win this battle between a bully and an average person, like myself. I would love to bash her head in, if you catch my drift.
