Twenty Two

I walked into the Citadel then went towards the Glaives training area, going in and seeing Nyx talking with Cor. So that I didn't disturb them, I went to Nyx's office then saw him glance at me, but he kept talking to Cor, wrapping it up shortly. I sat on his desk then grabbed the ball he had there, tossing it into the air and catching it.

"Miss Demose." He said as he came in then he caught the ball midair and I smiled as he set it back down behind me, grabbing my hips.

"Captain Ulric." I smiled then he leaned down and softly kissed me.

"How's the shop?" He asked, but I shrugged.

"We've expanded and are opening back up tomorrow." I said and he nodded.

"Well, the prince's anniversary with his husband is coming up, so you know that they're gonna go all out." He said and I nodded.

"The king wants us all there, you included." He said and I smiled.

"Then I guess we're going to an anniversary party." I said and he grinned.

"And, we can tell everyone there that you said yes." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"Of course they knew about your plan." I said then stood and sighed.

"Well, I have to be getting back, but I hope you get off work soon. I'll go shopping for a dress and a tux for you-"

"I can just wear my usual one, no need to buy me a new tux for this." He said and I smiled as I grabbed his arms.

"Fine, then I'll find me a dress and you can wear the same tux that you've always worn." I said, but he shook his head.

"Sorry, I actually have to go in uniform." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"You're a captain, I figured you would." I said then he smiled and softly kissed me.

"Well, I have to go. I love you, have a good day at work." I said then he nodded and I left, going to shop for a new dress for the anniversary party.

"Happy anniversary, Prince." I said and he smiled as I hugged him.

"Thanks, Sorren. I hear congratulations are in order for you and Nyx as well." He said then I smiled.

"Yes, he finally asked me." I said and jumped as a hand touched my back, but relaxed as I saw Nyx there in his full captain uniform.

"Nyx, you scared me." I said and he smiled.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." He said then I smiled as the rest of our friends came over.

"So, you two are finally sealing the deal?" Crowe asked and I rolled my eyes.

"You already knew that." I said then jumped as someone grabbed me and saw one of the Glaives.

"Yes?" I asked, but he moved closer to whisper.

"There's a man here, he's asking to see you, Miss Demose." He whispered and I turned to the elevators, recognizing the man from my mother's photos.

"I'll handle it." I said and he nodded as he walked off.

"What's wrong?" I looked at Gladio then sighed.

"Nothing, just need to take care of something." I said and excused myself, going towards my father.

"You're Sorrentina?" He asked and I nodded.

"I am, I'm Sorrentina Ulric." I said and his eyes went wide.

"You-you're married?!" He asked and I smiled.

"In a week, I will be. What do you want, father?" I asked and he smiled.

"So, you recognize me?" He asked and I crossed my arms, nodding as I stood there.

"My mother had photos of you and her when she was pregnant with me, so yes." I said and he smiled.

"I-I finally got into Insomnia, it just took me too long. Is your mother here?" He asked, but I shook my head.

"She's not, she died years ago, my grandmother raised me." I said and he looked sad.

"I'm sorry, Sorrentina." He said then I smiled softly.

"What are you doing here, dad?" I asked and he sighed, shifting his weight.

"I came to see you, Sorrentina. I was a douche to your mother, a bastard, but I don't want to be that for you." He said and I saw how genuinely sorry he was in his eyes.

"You mean that?" I asked and he nodded.

"I'm so sorry, Sorren. I never meant to hurt you or your mom, and I didn't mean to hurt your grandmother either. Please, forgive this old fool." He said then I stepped closer and smiled as I pulled him into a hug.

"I forgive you, dad." I whispered then felt him hug me.

"Thank you, Sorren." He whispered then I stepped back and grabbed his hand.

"Come on, you should meet my soon to be husband." I said and he nodded following me to the others.

"Who's this?" Ignis asked and I smiled as I looped my arm through my dad's.

"Everyone, this is my dad Joffrey Demose. Dad, that's Nyx." I said and dad smiled.

"Nyx Ulric? The captain to the Kingsglaives?" Dad asked and Nyx nodded.

"Yes sir-"

"I thought Sorren hated you." Pelna said, but I glared at him. I stopped as dad laughed then I looked at him and saw him smiling.

"I explained myself, it seems she had it in herself to forgive me. Though, I doubt I have her trust yet. That is something I need to earn, which will take time." He said and I smiled.

"Yeah, but I'll learn to trust-"

"Excuse me, everyone." I looked at the stage then saw the king and he smiled as he went through his speech about Noctis and Prompto, but after his speech, there was a dance that started.

"Sorren, would you mind dancing with this man?" I looked at dad then smiled.

"Sure, dad." I said and took his hand, going to the dancefloor with him.

Nyx's POV

I watched Sorren dance with her dad, who she resembled really well, then smiled as I saw how happy she was to have him in her life.

"Jealous?" I looked at Xander then sighed.

"Xander, look at Sorrentina." I said and he huffed, but looked at her.

"She's dancing with some old guy, so?" He asked, but I shook my head.

"When it comes to looking at people, you don't what to see. When I look at her, I see that she's been hurt before, that she's healing, I see how much she cares, and I can see that she's strong-"

"Yeah, but you know her." He said and I nodded.

"Fine, then I want you to look at the old man with her. What do you see about him?" I asked and he sighed.

"Well, his movements are slow, so he's either tired or weak. And he's talking, maybe trying to explain himself to her, or he's just talking to her. He's frail looking, the suit doesn't sit right on him so it's obviously rented. He doesn't have any money if he rented the tux, and his hair is thinning." He said then I nodded.

"So, what is your conclusion of him?" I asked and he was silent.

"He's sick." He said then I looked at the old man and nodded. That's why he was looking for Sorrentina, because he's dying and he wants to do something right in his life.
