Chapter 5

The man they brought in sat in the infirmary; his wounds were healed but it had taken time for them to heal fully, by the extent of his wounds. He was handsome, Marie had thought after seeing his face, in the right light of course. She didn't read his mind. She felt the fragile glass-like-state that was his mind.

"He's too fragile to be looked at," one of the medical officers said.

"In any way?" Richard interrupted, looking at Marie. She shook her head.

She would not risk his mental state in any way. Not when he could tell us.

"Fine, but I don't want to push him to any breaking points" Richard sighed. Marie nodded and gave the man a look.

He had shaggy black hair that was dirty and messy. His light brown eyes were soft but distant. Marie looked at his hands, his skin was tanned to an olive hue. They were shaking, the rope burns and other scars were still fresh, he had an aura that felt hopeful but terrified.

Marie set her hand on his. The man flinched his hands shirking away. She didn't react just took his hand.

"Stop that," he said meekly trying to pull away.

"Why?" She asked her violet eyes so bright. The man was struck by how bright and sweet they looked. She held his hand.

"I- I didn't know... If I'd make it out of there..." He said. Marie gave him a nod holding his hand even when his grip tightened on her to a painful point. "They took me in the night, from my home, killed my children, my sister, her children..." He started to sob; I saw a nurse hand him a handkerchief. "They made me kill so many, I didn't want too but they had a mind controller... She... she was worse than me beaten and bruised... she was young too," the man said.

"Ok, now it's time to let him rest," the nurse said, holding his ground while keeping a calm tone behind his stern order.

"We'll be back sir," Marie said finally letting go of his hand. He nodded and smiled.

"Casey, my name is Casey Holden," He said. Marie nodded leaving with Richard,

'Casey Holden,' Marie thought. 'I guess we'll see what happens next,'
