Chapter 7

She sighed. She should head to her tent. But her mind wandered leading her to a hill not far off from the encampment.

Marie felt the softness of the grass and the coolness of the dirt as she removed her boots, grass, and flowers whispering to her all the words spoken to them. She held her boots in one hand as she walked up the hill.

Marie stared up at the sky, it was just turning dusk, the amber sun settling the sky turning shades of oranges, pinks, and purples, slowly turning into a dark navy blue sky with bright stars floating above like small lights of white fire. Marie laid back the earth meeting her in a lush welcome. She shut her eyes the grass and flowers rustling against the wind.

"A lovely view isn't it?" A voice called it wasn't far off but how they snuck up on her was more pressing than the person in general. Marie didn't look at the person behind the voice though. They had a coolness to themselves, but with a comforting warmth as well. "I find it beautiful to see the sunset in a new spot each day, but I won't lie the thought of seeing the sunset with someone else is also quite nice," the voice said.

'Masculine,' Marie thought, 'Definitely a masculine voice'

Marie didn't look. The voice sat next to her, their warmth radiating next to her.

"I guess no one notices you either, even when you're a god," the voice said. Marie opened an eye, a man sat next to her lying body. She didn't move but she took in his features before the sunset fully.

The tan skin that matched hers. He had golden eyes. His hair was wavy but combed back, with mouse or gel she couldn't tell. She did however remember him from her childhood.

"I'm assuming Hasul, the god of death?"
