Chapter 36

"No....how is this possible. Why are you still stronger than me", Laxus said as he fell to one knee. The man had multiple ice patches on his body, as well as a couple of bruisings, he was sweating heavily and his breathing was ragged.

In front of Laxus is Enzo Lockhart. Unlike the lightning mage, the take-over wizard of Fairy Tail looks fine and has no wound marks on his body.

With his hand in the pockets of his pants, Enzo said to Laxus, "Is that it Laxus? You said that you were going to defeat me. You said that you will repay the defeat that I gave you. You preach about your superiority towards the other members of the guild, yet here you are on your knee. Is that all you could do?".

"tsk. I'm not yet done! I'll defeat you!", Laxus said as he covered his body with lightning. He traveled at incredible speed and delivered a powerful attack in point-blank range.

"Lightning Dragon's Roar!"

The attack hit Enzo straight in the face, and soon the lightning beam covered every inch of Enzo's body as it went pass through him, destroying the surroundings in front of Laxus.

"How's that?", Laxus said while panting. Right now, Laxus's right arm had already transformed itself into an ice sculpture due to the previous ice patches absorbing most of the ethernano that Laxus is using every time he cast a spell.

Laxus looks at the area in front of him. Due to his roar, the area was smoking and he could not see the figure of Enzo. Laxus's faces slowly made a smile as he thinks that victory was in his hand.

Right now, Laxus and Enzo are the only people remaining in this year's S-rank promotion exam. The exam was simple, the 8 contenders would climb Mt. Hakobe, and find a flag. The first one to get the flag and deliver it to Master Makarov, who was waiting at the foot of the mountain wins.

Simply right? Not! The mountain is inhabited by a powerful magical beast, but the most fearsome of this beast is the Vulcans. Individual A-rank mage can easily dispose of a Vulcan, but once the numbers surpass more than 20. Then fighting a Vulcan is incredibly hard and dangerous.

Especially in Mt. Hakobe, since it is one of the 3 main places where the Vulcan lives. Thus, the chances of any of the contenders fighting an entire group of this beast are incredibly large. In fact, the number of Vulcans becomes even more numerously as one climbs the mountain. This was the reason that most candidates gave up on the mission.

The two people who didn't quit, or wasn't eliminated were Enzo Lockhart and Laxus Dreyar. The two people saw the flag at the same time, thus they needed to promptly fight to settle who will get the flag and deliver it to Master Makarov.

"Good move", Enzo said as he walks out of the smoke. His clothes now had holes and burned marks in them but the man was clearly not injured. Laxus became shocked when he saw this and he subconsciously asked, "How?"

"Seriously, I like this suit", Enzo said in a calm tone.

"HOW?! I hit you in the face! How are you still not wounded?!", Laxus said with a tone of disbelief and anger in his voice.

Enzo looks at Laxus for a brief moment and then he said, "Why are you always angry, Laxus? Is it because of the banishment of your father from the guild?".

Enzo may always be absent in the guild but after having a few conversations with Makarov, he learned that Laxus had a change of heart when his father was banished. Makarov wouldn't say why he kicked his own son out of the guild only saying that Ivan, Laxus's father, was a danger to the guild itself.

"Shut up! Don't you dare talk about my father! You do not know what you are talking about", Laxus responded with anger in his voice.

"Or do you despise being compared to your grandfather? hmmm....True, you are overshadowed by him, it must have taken a toll on you", Enzo said with a calm voice.

"Shut up!"

Enzo looks straight into Laxus's eyes and said, "For the majority of my life I was angry and disgusted in a certain group of people, still do in fact but not as much anymore. I can say that I had changed somewhat. Is it for the best?", Enzo said as he shrugged his shoulders and he continued, " Who knows, really but Master Makarov thinks so. If he didn't think that then he would have never included me in this exam. So, who knows Laxus, perhaps a condescending person like you would also change... A small change is better than no change at all".

"How dare you!", Laxus said with so much anger that he seems to enter a berserk-like state. His eyes became all white as his muscles began to bulged and his body began to be covered with his yellow lighting.

"All right then", Enzo then started to transform into his full Yeti form, but Enzo didn't stop there. Every inch of Enzo's body began to be covered in a layer of energy, this energy had the color of purple to it.

4 HOURS LATER:

"Here you go master", Enzo said to Master Makarov as he handed him the flag.

"Okay nicely done", Makarov said as he looks at the person Enzo was carrying on his shoulder. It was Laxus, the young man seems to be knockout cold and since he was alone on the top of the mountain, Enzo decided to carry him down.

Makarov then cleared his throat and said to the other participants who failed the exam, "I would like to introduce the newest S-rank mage of Fairy Tail, Enzo Lockhart!".

On the side, you could see Wakaba saying to Macao, "I told you, you can't beat them".

"You lost too, you idiot", Macao replied.
