Fear of Failure

Each one of us is afraid of failure. We hate it when we fail because we might think that we are not worth it or you don't give your all to it. Fear of failure is a negative approach because you might lack motivation for you to succeed. If you have a fear of failure, you elicit emotions like anger, regret, frustration, sadness, and confusion. Other people are afraid to fail because of what other people will say to them.

Throughout my life, I've experienced lots of situations, but what I'm most afraid of is to be a failure, failure to fail in class, scared that I'm a failure to my family, and failure to succeed. I'm afraid to fail in class because I don't want to be ashamed of myself because all my life, I'm an honor student, and I don't want a failing grade reflected on my report card. I'm also afraid of being a failure to my family because I want them to be proud of me. When I'm still studying Engineering, I have a failing grade in my major subject, and I failed it three times already, and I'm so afraid of what my mom would say to me, I have a lot of what if's in my mind, but I'm relieved that they know my struggles and studying Engineering is very hard, and your school is standard, but now I shifted to another course (BS Psychology). My advice is, "don't be afraid of failure" because being a failure is a lesson to yourself, a lesson that you need to do more, you need lots of effort. We face lots of failures every day, but at the end of the day, review it, and be positive.

Signs you might have a fear of failure:

· Worry about others might think.

· Makes you worry about your potential for your future and success in life

· Makes you worry about how smart you are

· Telling others and yourself beforehand that you do not expect to succeed

· Overthinking about your failure and regretting it at the same time

· Thinking negatively beforehand, rather the positive ones

When I have a fear of failure, I would:

· Accept the failure. Accepting failures is a good thing because you are aware of it. If you fail, then, you failed, yes, we regret it, but accepting it is good.

· Focus on aspects of your control. You need to know yourself in this, your skills, and your potential. For example, I shifted to another course because I find it hard and it's not really my forte, and I failed it, but then, I realized, I want to become a Psychologist because I know that it is my forte and I can showcase my skills and potential in this field.

· Think positive. Sometimes, we might think negatively beforehand, but encourage yourself that you can do it, and it's ok. Thinking positively makes us determined to be a risk-taker. We sometimes don't know what the outcome but believe in yourself that you can do and will do it despite making failures.

Fear of failure to me is normal. We might face it every day; in school, work, and many more. All of us are afraid to be a failure, this is our number one mistake that we can make in life, but to not be called a failure, you need to believe in yourself, try and experiment with lots of things, be determined, and be positive as always. Taking risks is important because I know that we people are a risk-taker, like a soldier, and when we take risks, don't let failure engulf you. Why not fail, try again and again, just like the line in an advertisement, "try and try until you succeed,"

According to Brian Tracy, "It is not failure itself that holds you back. It is the fear of failure that paralyzes you". According to Bill Cosby, "To succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure"
