Chapter 31

When they finished eating, Jesse paid for the meal and they left. He kept his hand on the small of her back the whole way out to the car. He opened her car door for her and shut it, too. He got in and started driving. She wondered where they were going now. She also hoped that half a bottle of wine was all he was going to drink because she had already figured out he was a horrible person when he was drunk. He had already told her that he had black out rages when he drank.

“So, where are we going now?” Renee asked casually.

“Well, you said you liked going to the movies, so how about we go there?” Jesse asked.

“Um, well, we can go do something you like instead. I like to play pool. I’m not the greatest at it, but you can show me how to play,” Renee offered.
