3: The Dark Lord

"Not really, my brain filters the bullshit," I reply without turning around.

He takes the seat in front of me and for the first time I see his features clearly in the daylight. He has a muscular jaw, not too muscular, thick eyebrows and dark blue eyes with a really nice set of teeth. Maybe that's why he smiles a lot. The man knows his strong points.

"You look even cuter when I can see you, unlike last night" he sips his coffee.

"You looked the loveliest yesterday morning, when I was at home and couldn't see you at all" I stated calmly, drinking my own coffee.

"So, I checked, we share a lot of classes" he gave me another one of his flawless smiles.

"Why would that matter?" I asked.

"It matters."

"Why does it matter?"

"Because it matters to me," he said, placing both of his hands on the table and supporting his head on it, still smiling and not showing any signs of seriousness.

"You do that with everyone here?" I asked him, looking at all the eyes in our direction.

"Everyone who?" He looked around, "Oh them, Didn't see them, Do you prefer we talk in a more private setting, I don't know, like your room?" He gave me another toothed smile.

"That's it, I told you I won't tell anyone. I don't even know who the other two were. Why are you still here?" I didn't realise that my last words were a little louder than I intended them to be. I feel a little bad, but he doesn't seem to care.

"I see your friend is here, this means my time is up," he said picking his coffee and bag.

"Wait, How do you know she's my friend?" I asked him.

"Yeah, Later," he gave me a sly smile. "See ya," with that he left.

"Oh my god! You were talking to Derek! Derek Lockwood! Oh my god! Do you know who he is?" Chloe shouted at me when she sat where Derek was.

"You told me twice yourself, he's Derek Lockwood." I stated calmly.

"No, you bimbo, apart from probably being the hottest guy on campus, he's also the sheriff's son, and the sources say he's one of the three guys who are responsible for the blackout. That makes him even hotter than he already is."

The color from my face drained out, I couldn't tell her about the blackout, "I highly doubt your sources."

"Well, they are questionable people, but ehh, Derek being the sheriff's son and still being part of "F3" is like the coolest thing."

"Oh god! Are you for real? F3? That's like the lamest thing I've ever heard."

We attended the rest of the classes before going to our room, Thankfully nothing about Derek came up.

***

I was in my room, ready to drift off.

Unknown: You look nice.

- DL

Me: DL? The Dark Lord?

Dark Lord: Try again. I know you're not that dense.

Me: I'm afraid, I am.

Dark Lord: Then you definitely need to be around smart people. Open the door.

My eyes shot out upon receiving the message.

Me: No way, Go away.

I looked at the door, contemplating my next move when suddenly Derek's body came in through the window. I sat frozen on my bed, as he made himself at home. He took the chair and sat on it, giving me a smile.

"What are you doing here? I asked.

"Well, I clearly told you 'You look nice' and you didn't think that maybe I am somewhere I can see you from," he paused then continued, "I think I have to rethink about me thinking that you are not dense."

"Oh, I thought you're just messing with me."

"That I was, So how was the first day?" He asked seriously, like he really wanted to know.

"It was okay, I guess. I didn't see you in any of my classes though."

"I didn't come, intentionally."

"Why?"

"I needed to see something," he said.

"See what?"

"To see if you would notice," he said with a teasing smile on his face.

"I didn't."

"Yeah, I can tell," he smiled brighter than before, because obviously I noticed, and he noticed that I noticed. This is not good for my health.

"Why are you here? You already know I won't tell anyone about the blackout," I said trying to change the subject.

"Well, Can't I come around to check up on my new friend?"

"Friend? We are not friends,"

"We will be, It's just a matter of time," he said it like he is as sure about it, as he is about his name. Unknowingly Something about him calms me. If it would have been someone else in my room at this hour, I would've done everything to get him out. But to him, I didn't. I didn't even ask him to leave.

Sometime later, I felt myself falling asleep no matter how hard I tried to stay awake. The last thing I remember is him getting up, touching my cheek ever so lightly, that I hardly felt it.

"Goodnight Ashley," he said, before climbing out the window and leaving.
