Chapter 6: I’m alone now

After sending the text, I must scrounge up whatever I can just to survive and go to Angono. Right now, all I have is my enchanted shirt with magic armor, pants that can summon a small shield that lasts for 1 minute, shoes enchanted with misty steps that can help me do short-distance teleportation, and finally, a backpack that can provide me items and supplies that aren’t too valuable. Since the hospital is cleared of monsters, I decided to take my time and looked around.

I found shiny red and blue liquid bottles that could be health and mana potions and I found three for each. A sparkling bracelet nearby caught my eye. I saw that it is a property of the nearby business firm where Anne works. This thing fizzes out may not be very reliable, but it may save me when it comes out in a pinch.

I wonder if it’s the idea of wanting protection like what Anton said that can help me awaken my powers or does it only happen to a select few. I guess I can investigate more fully If I get to huge organizations. If they were this prepared for the apocalypse. They must have kept knowledge about this. I better start walking since misty steps only has ten charges an hour with a range of about 60 steps per teleport. This means that I'm limited to only 600 steps an hour.

After leaving the hospital, I once again took the highway to go to my old high school. Google maps data shows that it would take me around 3 hours of walking without considering the possible encounters. Before reaching IPI, a popular unloading and loading station for vehicles, I found a large ash fragment. Upon touching it, the ash fragment broke apart, revealing a shiny white egg with red marks all around it. The first thing that came into my mind was that this is a phoenix egg. “From the ashes, the phoenix rises again.” But it’s not supposed to be an egg. It's supposed to be a full-grown phoenix. Anyway, birds do get imprinted on the first thing they see.

Deciding whether I should take the egg or not is a tough choice. I might get myself a pet that could protect me or a monster that would kill me. Right now, this is a risk I’m willing to take since I don’t have any way to survive. So I ended up deciding that I will take the egg.

Upon continuing my journey, I have encountered a few monsters. I stabbed one goblin in the brain with an iron rod that I found lying on the ground while dodging his attacks with my misty steps. These action-packed fights wore me out since it was my first time killing something bigger than my hand and something that looks humanoid at that. Needless to say, I am quite bothered about what I did.

After walking some more, I reached Jenny’s Avenue. I saw three people walking. Two of them are men. One is extremely buffed like a bodybuilder and the other one is quite slim, but he still looks like a bodybuilder who is just starting to form muscles. The last one is a woman with a single ponytail. They are all wearing the same ID bearing the name of the nearby BPO company I walked past. I decided to approach them but as soon as I did, my vision turned dark.
