Overslept!

"Wren! Come downstairs to help me out with somethings." My mother said.

I opened up my eyes to the bright sun and her calling me. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I looked at my phone and there was no message. I mean why would there be if we were just friends. I stood up and went to the bathroom. I went downstairs to help her out and then it became a chore day. The whole day was spent cleaning here and there, making me forget about him. However, when it came to having to sleep I couldn't help but to think about Josh.

I texted him "Hey, are you ok?"

He text me back immediately "Mhm."

I looked at the text message very suspicious and answered back "You sure?"

"Don't believe me?" He questioned me.

I didn't know whether he was playing or not. So, I just didn't text back. I laid on my side and tried to shut my eyes. Somehow, it was to difficult to sleep and I couldn't force myself. I turned to my other side and covered myself with my blanket. I shut my eyes and I could hear the cricket noises outside in the front yard. I sighed and turned to look up at the ceiling. I looked towards my bright window and saw a shadow pass by. I felt unease as I didn't know if someone was trying to break in or if it was just my imagination. I stood up and got off my bed. I headed towards my window and I leaned in. He kneeled down infront of my window and tapped on it. I gasped and held my chest.

I opened the window and whispered "Are you crazy?!"

Josh laughed lowly and said "Come on."

I rolled my eyes as I liked how he would always invite me with him. I got out through my window and he held my hand to help me out. I stood up and he whispered "Don't look down. Just look at me."

I nodded and held his hand tight. I didn't take my eyes off of him and we sat down on the roof.

"Why are you here?" I asked concerned and confused.

Josh laid back and put his arm behind his head for comfort. "I wanted you to see that I was ok and not lying to you."

I laid down beside him and looked up at the sky with him. My window was so bright due to the full moon above us and with all the stars joining it.

"How did you get here so fast?" I asked still looking up at the bright sky.

He calmly said. "I was around here when you texted me. So, I decided to come over. I mean even if I wasn't I would have came all the way over here. So, that you could see that I was telling you the truth and you wouldn't had worried about me."

I looked over at him unbelievably and he looked back at me.

He continued "I wanted to see that you were ok too."

I smiled and glanced away. "I'm fine." I softly replied.

"I see you're physically ok but I sense that you are worried about something." He assumed.

"Why?" I asked smiling.

He didn't take his eyes off of me as he said "It's pretty late and you're awake."

I sighed and said "Thoughts are the cause to my worries."

I looked over at him and his smile disappeared. He asked "Why? What's wrong?"

I put my arm behind my head for comfort and my hand over my stomach. I felt myself getting nervous to my thoughts and feelings. I glanced away slowly.

I said "I worry for my future."

Josh chuckled and said "Really? Don't."

I shockingly looked at him and asked "What? Why?!"

He smiled really big and said "Cause I know you will be successful. Don't worry. Be happy!"

I nodded my head sideways and said "You're crazy. How can you be so calm? We're literally about to graduate anytime soon and you're so calm."

I laughed a little to how insane it was that he didn't seem to worry not even a little.

Josh said "Honestly, I feel like I have no purpose here in life."

My eyebrows rose up and I asked "What? Why?"

"I see how everyone is getting prepared for their futures and I'm just messing around. I have no idea, what I came here to do but I'm so happy." He said giving me much comfort.

I frowned a little and asked "What if it's cause you already got everything you wanted?"

His eyes wondered into mine and asked "As in, I'm rich and don't have to do nothing but enjoy life?"

I nodded my head slowly as I didn't know how would he take my answer. He sat up and so did I, feeling pretty guilty now.

He sighed and said "I mean, I can just go work with my dad but would I like it? I don't know."

I said "I think you're going to be successful in anything you choose."

He smiled a little and asked "Why you say that?"

I smiled back and said "Cause your perfect in everything you do!"

Josh chuckled and said "Yeah and so are you."

I pushed his arm gently and said "Oh shut up! Stop lying to me."

I laughed to his beautiful lies that tried to give me comfort to my future.

He said "I'm serious. I see how you try very hard in everything you do. You have worked very hard to be here."

I corrected him and said "Yeah! I work hard to get my not so great grades and still manage to get upset with the results."

We both laughed for awhile and he said "I don't know how that's even possible but you make it possible. Look don't give up. I mean atleast you're passing."

"Hardly!" I said laughing.

Josh said "Also, you know what you want in life and well I don't know."

I put my faults to the side and said "The answer is probably all up in your face and you don't see it. I mean you're good at anything. Drawing, football, making marshmallows catch up on fire..."

I giggled to the last one cause I couldn't help to see his reaction.

He nodded his head and said "It tasted very well too."

We continuously kept laughing at eachother and I loved it very much. Our laughs echoed in the air across the houses and towards the moon.

He took out some chips and handed me a bag. "What's this?" I asked taking it from his hand.

"Chips." He said while opening his up.

I blinked a couple of times at it and then at him.

"What?" He laughed.

I opened it and said "You trying to get me chubby, huh? Chips at night are unhealthy."

His face straightened and agreed. "You're right. You know, what? Let's go to the store and go buy some healthy peaches."

I pouted in confusion and repeated after him. "Peaches?"

He stood up and said "I'll wait for you on the grass."

"What?! Are you crazy?!" I asked looking at him shocked.

Josh showed me his chips and said "Crazy we are! If we don't eat these chips and go burn the calories up. Then come back eating peaches and looking very healthy."

I covered my face with my hands as how I was blushing to his very cheesy, funny and incredible facts.

He walked past me and I uncovered my face. I went inside to put on my shoes and get my phone. I whispered "I'm crazy for even joining him." I laughed softly and went downstairs. I looked around and it was pretty dark. I guess everyone was asleep already and I didn't mind. I left quietly and walked up to him.

"If you don't want to join me, you can stay. Since, you look like you committed a crime." He sarcastically said.

"No, we need to burn calories at this time." I sarcastically said back.

Josh looked at his watch and said "1 A.M. and who's open during this time?"

"Kroger." I quickly answered him.

"Let's go!" He shouted excitedly.

I smiled and we headed towards the store. I mean it was right outside our neighborhood and I was pretty grateful for it.

"So, what will you be? When we graduate?" Josh asked looking over at me with very much attention.

"My parents suggested that I should be a engineer." I said as I kept my eyes on the ground.

Josh didn't say nothing for a couple of seconds and then he did. "Well, is it what you want, though?"

I shrugged once and sighed. "They say I would be great at that but my grades show other wise."

I looked over at him and then glanced ahead of me.

"You shouldn't compare these grades to engineering. After, all what we are being thought now isn't for our future jobs. I mean most of us don't know how to even do our own taxes." He put his hands in his pockets looking for the warmth.

I raised my voice and spoke. "That's what I want! I want to be independent and have extra money for other needs. I don't want to be a chattel to work or anything I don't like."

He looked into my eyes with so much amuse that I could feel he was falling for me too. "Now, that's how you speak!" He held my hand and brought it up to the sky like if I had won a boxing match.

I chuckled and we continued to walk until we reached the store.

"Two peaches?" He asked.

"Yeah, unless if you want more." I said.

"No, I'm fine with one or we can take some home." He suggested while waiting for my response.

"No, it's ok." I said.

He got extra for his home and he paid when we left the store.

"Can we cheat?" He asked with a very innocent look.

I stopped to try to understand what he was talking about. He pointed at the cart that was in the middle of the parking lot and how could I not cheat? I got in the cart and he pushed me as he ran and got on it.

"Oh my goodness! This is so crazy!" I shouted.

He shout back "No it's called having fun!"

We both laughed until someone shouted "Hey!"

He immediately stopped and he helped me get off. He held my hand and we both ran as fast as we could. When we came to a stop he catched his breath but I was giggling to his face expression.

"You were so scared!" I said breathing with a fast pace.

"Atleast, you were happy." He slowly let go of my hand as we started to walk down the sidewalk with the peaches in his hand.

I nodded my head slowly and said "I'm so happy when I'm with you."

He smiled softly and said "I'm glad that I do. I hope I always provoke only smiles on your face. So, you won't have to use so many muscles fibers."

I put my hands in my pockets to warm them up and stayed silent. He looked over at me and I could see his bright smile from the corner of my eye. I kept looking forward and just smiled lowly. We made it back to my front yard and I said "Goodnight, Josh."

Josh waved his hand and said "Goodnight, Wren. Don't dream about me to much."

I laughed and rolled my eyes. I put my phone on silent before going in the house. What if it decided to ring and I get caught. Then get in trouble and have to explain. How I went to the store for peaches but none for myself. I laughed in myself to the dumb thing we did tonight but I liked it.

"Wren." She called my name.

"Wren!" She shouted my name now.

I sat up quickly and asked confused "What?! What's going on?!"

My mother looked at me annoyed and said "Get up! Hurry! Before you miss the bus! I have to go already."

She rushed out my room and looked over at my phone.

"Dead." I whispered.

I looked at the clock on the wall. I pouted "I'm not even going to hurry. I'm going to have to walk to school."

By the time I went downstairs it was very lonely. I headed out and said "If I walk now? I could make it just in time before the bell rings."

I motivated myself and started to walk. I looked at the bus stop and no one was there. I mean obviously, the bus had already passed by and it wasn't going to wait for me. I walked passed Josh's street and it looked like no one was home. I guess he made it to the bus stop. I saw his garage door open and saw a black car come out. I turned away and started to speed walk. I didn't want his parents to see how irresponsible I was. I wanted to hide under a rock until they drived by. I heard honking and I didn't want to look back. Maybe, they were honking at a dog to hurry up and cross the street. The honking got nearer and nearer. It made me very anxious and nervous.

"Wren!" He shouted from beside the sidewalk.

I turned to look at him and it was Josh.

"What are you doing?!" I asked surprised.

"Come inside the car." He ordered me as he waved his hand for me to go inside like whenever we met.

"No, I think I'll walk." I said embarrassed.

"It's going to rain pretty soon and don't want you to catch a cold. Please, get it." He offered as he pulled up the window.

I got in the car and I asked "You do have a driver license, right?"

Josh laughed and showed it to me.

"Wow?!" I said very impressed.

"What?" He anxiously asked.

I put my seatbelt and said "I didn't think you would show me it."

He drove off and said "I just want you to trust me."

I turned up the radio as he had turned it off earlier to speak to me. He handed me a peach and I giggled.

"I can't believe you." I said unexpectedly.

"I'm sure you didn't eat nothing." He assumed.

I nodded my head as I took a bite and swallowed it. "My phone was dead. So, I didn't wake up in time to get on the bus. What about you? Did you oversleep?" I asked trying to understand.

Josh drived with such diligent that I really admired that from him.

"Actually, I saw you didn't get on. So, I got off the bus." He shared.

"You what?!" I shouted unbelievably

Josh laughed and said "I got worried about you. So, I decided to wait for you."

I couldn't believe what he was saying and I asked "What if I didn't go to school? Would you have stayed waiting for me?"

Without hesitation he said "I would wait my whole life for you."

I laughed and said "Oh! Shut up!"

Josh said "I'm serious. I would wait. I mean your laugh would be worth it."

I got really serious and asked "Are you making fun of my laugh?"

He looked at me a couple of seconds with a unbelievably look and said "No. I'm saying that your laugh is so contagious that anybody would come and see who's laughing."

I looked away and said "Na-uh. People would come see what's so funny."

Josh said "I would stare at you, come join you and stay with you forever."

He pulled into the school parking lot and it started to pour outside.

"I can't believe it's raining, now." I said looking over at him.

He started to dig in the compartment that was beside him and got an umbrella. "It should be big enough for the both of us." He said.

"I don't know how to share." I said awkwardly.

Josh smiled and said "It's ok. Atleast, we're not made out of sugar."

He got out the car and came around for me. I got under the umbrella and he put his arm around me for a tighter hug. I hugged him back as I didn't want to get wet or sick. We walked fast towards the school and dried up.

"Thanks." I kindly said.

"No problem. Anytime you need help just call me." He said blushing.

We walked inside and the bell rang.

"We need to hurry!" Josh shouted as he held my hand to rush upstairs. I knew I wouldn't fall since he was holding my hand tight.

"You guys are late! Detention after school!" Our teacher said.

"B-but! It's only been like a m-minute! I stuttered.

"A minute is a minute. Now, get inside and do the assignment on the board." He ordered.

I couldn't help but look at him with very much disbelief. I couldn't believe him and we were never late to his class. Maybe, that's why he was so upset but it was my fault.

I sighed as I did the assignment and I mouthed to Josh "sorry."

He gave me a comfort smile and shrugged it off. I was pretty upset for having to make him stay after school and I didn't want to stay. Whenever, the bell rang Josh waited for me to finish packing up before leaving.

"Don't be late next time." He said from his computer.

I glanced away and looked back at Josh. We headed out and I said "I feel bad for making you stay."

Josh chuckled and said "You act like detention is bad."

I questioned him "Isn't it?"

Josh shrugged and said "Don't know but I have been in the other schools."

I raised my eyebrows and asked "Why?"

Josh said "Many dumb reasons. You get in trouble for anything you do. Stay in the bathroom for 5 minutes is bad, looking at your neighbors desk is bad, breathing the same air as your teacher and writing on the dumb test is bad."

I laughed and said "Oh my! Your right."

Josh said "Don't worry about it. It'll probably be fun."

I frowned my eyebrows in confusion and he waved goodbye to me. Even though we were heading to the same class but he probably wanted to hang out with some of the football players. They usually hanged out for awhile before heading to their classes. I went into art class and began to finish my sketch.

Josh came from around after awhile and complimented my work "What?! You improved so much already."

I rolled my eyes and said "Mhm, sure."

Josh said "I'm serious. It's looking pretty good."

I patted on his seat and said "Take a seat."

He smirked and took a seat next to me. The teacher came in and started to walk around to see our sketches. He helped around, here and there.

"Where's detention anyways?" I asked concerned.

Josh said "It's on the theater stage."

"Really?" I asked shocked.

He nodded his head and informed me "I asked around and those were my answers."

"Why there?" I asked.

"They keep the dictionaries there." He answered.

"This is awful." I said really upset.

Josh said "Don't worry. It'll be fun. Good thing we only have to be there an hour."

I put my cheek over my hand and looked over at him with disbelief.
