Episode 5: Lost Labyrinth (2): First contact (2)

As I was holding the person hostage, Sam walked closer towards my side. He stood behind me and whispered from behind. "Get him to get the other guy to come here, we can't risk having the other guy become suspicious."

I nodded my head while looking straight at that person.

"Hey," I said.

"W-W-What...?" he replied.

"Take your receiver out and get the other person to come down here."

"W-Why...?"

"Just do it." I pulled my hand back a little into a throwing position.

He shut his eyes and turned his head back around facing forward.

"Alright! Alright! Please stop!!!" he screamed reaching deep into his pockets.

"Good."

"Sometimes a little... threatening would work... I guess?" I thought to myself. "I wouldn't usually do this..." I looked down at Sam, who was standing behind me. "But... he might?"

The person held on to the receiver and pressed the button.

"Hey! Are you ready??? I've been waiting for-" the receiver said.

"Y-Yeah... everything is f-fine here."

"Huh...? Then what are you stuttering for?"

"A-Ah... I'm just t-tired. B-But actually..." he turned around slightly looking back at me.

I stared at him sternly and he jolted and turned around again.

"It's erm... i-it's... I think... there's something wrong with this here..."

I tugged his suit and he started to shake.

"What do you mean?" the receiver replied.

"I-I mean... I found some anomalies here... t-the Petri dish erm... MC... erm... 1420... it's erm... showing some signs off..."

"Ah!" the receiver said.

I heard slamming on the other side of the receiver.

"Why didn't you say that earlier!? I'll be holding you responsible for this! Wait there, I'll come right now!" the receiver said and then the connection was lost.

*Buzzzzz*

"I-I-I... I've told him... c-can you... p-put that down p-p-please....?" the person said turning around.

"..." I sharpened my eyes and let go of his zip.

Sam stepped back retreating a little.

The person breathed out heavily and sighed while closing his eyes.

"Hey," I said.

He opened his eyes while slouching down looking up at me.

I held tightly on to the bottle, while having my index finger on the lid of it, and swung my arm back and then accelerated it forward.

The person trembled.

*Thump*

He fell and fainted.

"Ah... I didn't want to do this..." I said looking back at Sam.

"Well, you've done it now. Let's move him aside. The other guy is coming," Sam replied.

* * *

We took off the suit from the person and before I put it on, we dragged him behind, under and inside a table situated in the far corner.

"That'll have to do..." I said.

"Now let's quickly get ready for that guy."

"I've got this suit but where are you gonna hide?"

"Hmm..." he turned his head around scanning the room once more.

There were many tall tables where he could hide. If it was only one person, he could circle around them again like last time.

"What if... that guy called for more people?" I asked.

"Yeah..." he bit into his fingers. "It's not good..."

"Take our bags and hide in the same place as you did before, near that tinted window. When the door opens, they won't be able to spot you."

"It opens towards the windows..."

"Yeah."

"So then what are you going to do?"

"I'll..." I turned my head towards the glass shelf. "I've got an idea..."

* * *

Hiding under the windows, Sam observed the outside while I prepared.

*Step* *Step* *Step* *Step* *Step* *Step*

"They're approaching!" Sam said quietly. "I can't see them but the floor is trembling. One... two? Two people are heading our way I think."

"It's less than I expected..." I thought but it was fine. I was prepared.

*Clack*

The door opened and they both stepped in. They weren't wearing suits like the first person.

"Hey. What's wrong? You said something was wrong with MC... what was it again?"

"Ah... yes MC 1420. Come have a look."

We all stood on both sides of the table looking down at the Petri dish. I glanced over at Sam.

Luckily, the door remained open and he was still hidden from their sight.

"What's this?"

Inside the suit, I turned my head towards them. "Ah, well you see..." I pointed at one side of it. "For some reason, this side has become a slimy mush."

"MC 1420... what was the experiment for this again?"

The other guy, wearing round glasses with a middle-aged look, stepped forward and said, "This one focuses on the membrane enhancement."

"Yes. Precisely," I agreed without knowing what he was talking about.

He took a deeper look into the Petri dish.

Bubbles were surfacing from the Petri dish as the lid shook like a pot with boiling water. It wasn't long before it stopped and everything in the dish became mushed.

The elder picked up the dish and tilted it around analysing it. After a moment, he placed it down.

"So, how is it, Sir?" the other guy said.

"It looks like..." he looked up at me staring straight at me.

I began to sweat a little as it fell down my face. Luckily, they cannot see through the suit's front mask.

"Possibly, the membrane enhancement failed and the cells busted releasing a gas."

"Yes! Sir, so what should we do about this one?" the guy said as he looked around at the others. "MC 1419 and MC 1418, they seem fine."

"Let's head back and update the data. Then let's proceed with MC 1421," the middle-aged man said. He turned around and the other guy followed behind.

I sighed but it was too early.

*Creak* *Creak*

We all heard a sound coming from the corner of the table.

The two of them stopped. They turned towards the sound.

"What was that?"
