Let Us Find Water

As they head out to find water to drink [Susumu] starts thinking of how they could find water and where they could go. He thinks of all the things that could happen:

"Will we get lost?"

"Will we be able to go back to the field of flowers?"

"Will we run into any obstacles?"

"Will we ever be safe?"

"Will we even find water?"

He starts to get lost in his thoughts while walking. They walk for a while like this until [Fleecy] tugs on [Susumu]'s pants. The tug makes [Susumu]'s body recognize that something on him has moved. Which brings him out of his head and back to reality.

[Fleecy]: I think i hear water up ahead.

[Susumu] quickly looks up ahead and grabs [Fleecy]'s hand saying, "Come on!". As he runs to the source of the sound, he feels both relief and hope in his chest. He then proceeds to pick up [Fleecy] so he can run faster to what seems like a river. [Susumu] thinks it's a river because he sees a little glimmer of light while hearing the sound of water moving and pouring. The sound gets louder and louder the closer he gets. After exiting the trees, he puts his brother down and stares in both satisfaction and shock, saying "I didn't know that a river was just sitting here with no one around."

[Susumu] looks around for people or predators, while his brother [Fleecy] goes to drink the water. [Susumu] quickly says "Stop, don't try to drink it yet." [Fleecy] being confused says "Why?".

[Susumu]: Because i have to make sure we're safe and if the water is clean.

[Fleecy]: It seems safe to me.

[Susumu]: The way it looks and the way it is, are two different things.

One thing i want you to learn is that sometimes the answer can be in front of you and you just don't see it.

[Fleecy]: How am i supposed to know when it's there?

[Susumu]: If i told you everything then you'd learn nothing.

[Fleecy]: That's not fair!

[Susumu]: Life is fair in its unfairness.

[Fleecy]: What does that mean?

[Susumu]: You'll see.

As [Fleecy] pouts in getting unsatisfactory answers, [Susumu] looks around to make sure they are alone. After looking around for a couple of minutes he doesn't see any animals or people. So, he goes to look at the river to see if it's clean enough to drink.

[Susumu]: Make sure to watch your surroundings Fleecy.

[Fleecy]: uh..okay.

[Susumu]: looks at the water intensely, but then he sees something move in the water. The creature he sees looks like a fish-like slime worm. He keeps watching it out of curiosity. Noticing its slender, medium-sized body, with hair that seems to stick to the body but sway away a bit as if it has slime on it. Moving in a way that implies that it's coated in a blurry-ish liquid, while it's moving underwater. It doesn't appear to have teeth either. It's this creature that makes [Susumu] come up with the riskiest idea.

He starts to try to drink the water. Putting his hand into something that resembles how certain leaves are shaped, so he can scoop up the water as if he had grabbed a cup to put the water in. [Fleecy] notices this and says "HEY! No fair!", while watching him take a sip; a slow, long, cautious sip. A sip that seems to last a minute. One long boring minute. The sip takes so long that [Fleecy] almost gets jealous. But even then, he still sips. He sips until it's all in his mouth. All until he drank it.

That's when things go wrong. His body starts to feel sick inside, fighting back whatever he drank. This causes him to both spit and puke out the water. It just bursts right out of his mouth. As if there was water pressure in his body forcing it out. [Susumu] then tells [Fleecy], "You see, that's why you shouldn't drink water just anywhere."

[Fleecy]: Then what do i do?

[Susumu]: *puffing air in and out* What do you think you should do?

[Fleecy]: Burn it clean?

[Susumu]: Try it. It might work. Nothing could be worse than this.

[Fleecy] then runs around looking for sticks. He grabs all the mushy sticks he can to make the fire. He goes near his brother and starts putting the sticks into a pile. Before [Fleecy] figures out how to make a fire, [Eros] tells [Fleecy] to put the sticks into a circle. A circle that requires the sticks to be placed onto it and going up into one spot. [Susumu] takes notice and is shocked to see that it looks like a cone. But he stays silent to not intrude [Fleecy]'s learning process. [Eros] then tells him to use rocks with the fire but doesn't tell him how.

So being frustrated not knowing what to do, [Fleecy] just puts the rocks at the end of the cone. After walking backwards, away from it. He realizes that it might work the way it is, then go grabs rocks to light them on fire. While running around looking for more rocks he thinks to himself "If Dad did it then so can i!!"

[Fleecy] then hits the rocks together until it lights it on fire. He hits them once, it doesn't work. Then he continues to do it until it makes a fire. The rocks just keep grinding together. The constant rubbing creates a sort of tension that then heats them. They get so hot that they eventually spark. The spark goes flying into the pile of sticks that were made into a cone. And it ends up lighting it on fire. [Fleecy] then bursts out of joy from making his very first fire.

But in his excitement, he quickly realized that he couldn't boil the water. He then gets sad because one success of his own went straight into another failure. That's when his older brother tells him "It's fine Fleecy. I wouldn't have brought it up if there wasn't a way." [Susumu] then gets up to reach for the metal pot he saw shining in the light from behind the waterfall. But as he gets up, he starts coughing again. Regretting his stupid decision, he grabs the pot to [Fleecy] as he tells him "I'll be the taste tester."

[Fleecy] being worried says "Are you sure?"

[Susumu]: Yes, I'm sure. If i don't spit it out, then that means it's at least drinkable.

[Fleecy]: I guess you're right.

They start to put the water in the pot and right before they put it on the fire. [Susumu] grabs sticks to hang the pot on. Coughing along the way, as he even grabs vines to keep the pot from falling. He takes time to do the tying and then he successfully keeps the pot from falling.

They both sigh in relief and wait for the water to boil until it's clean enough to drink.
