Chapter 14 - Aloha

Chapter 14

Aloha

The girls headed back to the house at the time they agreed to come back according to Hank's terms. The whole family was gathered in the living room area for one last hurrah before Amelia's family goes to the airport the next morning. The girls decided to join in on the fun with board games and cards since they knew it was a rare occasion both their families got together for this kind of bonding time.

"How was the beach, girls?" Hank asked.

"It was great. I'm sad to see Amelia go," Lynae said with genuineness in her voice.

"Me too," Meredith agreed.

"I'm glad you girls rekindled your relationship with one another. I know it must be hard to see your cousin go back to Delaware, but maybe we could pay a visit when Christmas or Thanksgiving comes around," Hank hinted.

"Really?!" The girls' eyes lit as they said in unison.

"Hank, are you sure you can afford time off around that time?" Brie asked.

"I'll make it work, I always do anyhow,"

"We'll be glad to have you there when that time comes, Hank," Bill placed a hand on his shoulder.

The families laughed with joy and had such a great time that evening. By morning, Amelia, the boys, and their parents were packed and ready for their flight home. While saying their goodbyes, the girls said their goodbyes by hugging one another.

"I'm just a telepath a way," Amelia said.

"How about you telepath us and we'll call you since we don't have that ability?" Lynae suggested.

"All you need to do is call out to me in your head and I'll answer – that is if I'm not hung up on anything," Amelia said.

"Really, we just call out to you within our minds?" Lynae questioned.

"Yeah, you can't telepath with one another but you can telepath with me since I can reach your thoughts,"

"Well most of everyone's thoughts." Lynae pointed out gesturing towards Meredith.

"I can still telepath you and you can relay the message to Meredith." Amelia suggested.

"So have you gotten the whole telepathy down?" Meredith asked.

"Yeah you could say that. I don't know but I am going to work on controlling it and making it stronger to achieve."

"We'll work on our abilities as well – even though we never asked for it to begin with," Lynae said with an unwavering tone.

"I'm sorry I dragged you all into this. I had to know or otherwise I don't know what would have happened to me if I didn't act on it. Ever since going that night, I haven't had any epileptic episodes – especially with the events that could have triggered it," Amelia apologized.

"It was inevitable. If you have the mer gene, then we do too. We would have probably had hints of going to transform anyway if we didn't go with you. Even with knowing that we are the descendants of the magical royal family – we couldn't have avoided it for much longer," Meredith explained the possibilities.

"Are you going to be okay with school next week?" Amelia asked.

"I've dealt with worse – from which you knew reading my mind without my permission,"

"Sorry,"

"Don't be, if you didn't, I would have kept it in longer and would have resented my parents a bit more. Plus, with you getting dirt on the principal like that, it should be easier to deal with," Lynae said.

"If they give you a hard time, I'm a telepath away,"

"Thanks, Mia," Lynae hugged her.

The girls said goodbye with one another. Then the family got to the terminal leaving to their plane. Ashlynn gave Amelia her sedative pill. However, while feigning to take the medicine, Amelia wanted to see if she could go without incident on the plan without the medicine.

While pretending to be asleep, she tried concentrating on reading the minds of other passengers. Her intentions were to see if she could control the volume that she received from her mind reading. That way she could silence them out in the future. Amelia knew she couldn't practice her levitating powers on the plane with the situation of her being cramped with numerous of individuals in an aircraft environment.

The plane finally landed a few hours after being in the air. Amelia and her family arrived in Delaware. While they were "waking up" Amelia, they had the wheelchair ready. Amelia denied the wheelchair and wanted to walk off the plane. Ashlynn was shocked thinking she didn't take the medicine like she was instructed to.

While going down the ramp, Ashlynn stopped to talk to Amelia.

"Amelia," Ashlynn grabbed her by the arm.

"Yes?" Amelia responded.

"Why didn't you take your medicine? You know why you need it right?" Ashlynn asked her why.

"I don't think I need to take it anymore,"

"Amelia, you need to take it in case -"

"I think the doctors need to retest me," Amelia interrupted.

"Why do you think that?"

"I want to see if I show any signs of epilepsy anymore,"

"Amelia, you just had..."

"Please, take me to my doctor and get me tested again. I have a feeling that I may not have much of the symptoms anymore," Amelia pleaded.

"I'll call your doctor to see if he can see you tomorrow, but for now, take your medicine!" Ashlynn instructed.

"Thanks, mom," Amelia hugged her.

After the conversation, the family packed into their vehicle and headed home. What Amelia did not expect was that her boyfriend Eddie was waiting for her at the front door. She wondered why he was doing here? Was he welcoming her home? She got out of the car to see him.

"So much for texting me, huh?" Eddie said pouting.

"Wait, what?" Amelia tried to think and she realized that she forgot to text him.

"Oh my gosh, Eddie. I'm so sorry, I totally forgot. A lot has happened on the trip; it slipped my mind..."

"You think I'm mad over a text?" Eddie said jokingly.

"You idiot! You had me worried there!" Amelia smacked him.

"That's what you get for not texting me," Eddie laughed.

"Hello, Eddie," Bill greeted him.

"Hello, sir, how was the trip?" Eddie asked.

"Like Amelia said, a lot has happened over the week. It's good to see you again," Bill said while going inside.

"You too, sir," Eddie said goodbye to Bill.

"We can talk inside," Amelia said.

While leading Eddie in the house, Amelia knew she had to keep some things quiet and not get him involved. They sat and chat for a little bit. She explained what she could tell him and what she's planning on doing next.

"You think you won't have seizures anymore when you just had one?!"

"Yeah, all of a sudden I think I won't have anymore,"

"What makes you so sure of that? What made you think you won't have another seizure in your life?"

"Something happened to me when I could have had an episode – but I didn't."

"What was it?"

"I can't say, it's hard to explain," Amelia lied to him.

"I don't know, shouldn't you get in touch with your doctor about this?"

"I am. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Will you come with me?"

"I wish I could, I have class all day tomorrow, but text me on what he says, okay?"

"Okay, I will,"

"I'll see you later. I just wanted to see you again after your trip."

Eddie kissed her and left the home. Amelia started unpacking her things one by one. After she got done, she crashed onto her bed looked at her canary. She decided to telepath Lynae to see what's going on.

"Lyn, I'm home,"

"Mia? Jeez, you scared the crap out of me. Everything okay?"

"I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. I'm going to convince him to get me off this medicine,"

"Seriously? Are you sure about that?"

"I've thought about it. Ever since getting these powers, I haven't had any incident or anything that would have triggered it by now. I think by transforming, it cured me somehow,"

"What did Uncle Bill and Aunt Ash think?"

"Mom's still a bit skeptical but I haven't told her exactly why because – you know,"

"Yeah, yeah, I gotcha,"

"What's going on your end?"

"Other than Meredith breaking furniture and our nails have become super long, it's been peachy,"

"Wait, what?"

"Yeah, Mere accidentally was leaning in on the dining room table. It snapped in half. Mom suspects it was the table being too old, thank God. But I don't know. Then Mere went to reach for something and accidentally scratched Dad. At first, I didn't believe it because she usually bit her nails, but looking at hers and mine, it's insane. Now I have to share a nail filer with her!"

"Dang, I should probably check my nails – holy crap!" Amelia looked at her hands seeing her tips of her nails having distance between her actual fingertips.

"Being mermaids has nothing to do with our nails does it?" Lynae asked.

"I don't know. That would be something we should ask Allura the next time we see her. I'll talk to you later,"

"Okay, later cous,"

Amelia broke connection with Lynae and just laid there staring blankly at the ceiling. She came back as a completely different person from before. She found out about her heritage – that she was part mer. Now she has to deal with these new changes and how to make do with it. How will she manage her relationships with her family but also with Eddie as well?
