Need You

Emmitt runs into the building a few minutes later, Remy still on the floor, staring at his hands, which are folded over his knees. Emmitt kneels next to him. "Hey. It's okay." He wasn't actually sure if that was true. He didn't know any of the details, but he couldn't think of anything else to say.

Remy just shakes his head, not breaking his emotionless gaze at his hands.

"Uhhh, I'm just going to call Landon real quick."

He pulls out his phone, and after a few rings, he picks up. "Emmitt," he says his name desperately, as if he was hoping that he would call.

"What happened to Renee? Is she okay?" He asks, holding Remy's hand.

"She's in the emergency room. But a nurse told me they were going to pump her stomach, whatever that means. He said they think she'll be okay."

"Landon, I'm so sorry," he said sympathetically, knowing now wasn't the time to ask why she was in the hospital in the first place. "Do you want us to meet you there?"

"Is Remy with you? I would've brought him with us, but there wasn't enough room in the ambulance."

"Yeah, he's here."

"Would you mind coming? I don't really want to be alone, waiting for her."

"Of course we wouldn't mind. We'll be there soon." He hung up and dragged Remy to his feet. "Come on. Let's go."

The movement brought Remy back to his mind, and he was thinking more clearly now. He followed Emmitt to his car and got in the passenger seat. As he started the car, he told him, "Thank you. For coming for me, I mean."

"Of course. I was already on my way." He said it so casually, but they both knew how much Remy had needed him in that moment.
