"How is it? What did the shaman told you?"
Ouyang Xueqing glanced at his mother from the corner of her eyes, poured her a cup of tea and took out the cakes that she took from the Palace. "Look mother, it's ice sugar cakes. Eat some. Qing'er heard that it's beneficial for one's heart."
Xia Wei blinked, warmth permeating her heart and she grabbed one, savoring the sweet and cold taste on her tongue. "So?" She had been so nervous that she felt like sitting on needles as time flew by and she hadn't seen her daughter yet.
Who knew that this brat were having her own sweet time, munching on cakes inside?
Humph! She had planned to smack her bottom. But looking at how sensible her daughter was, she hold herself back.
Ouyang Xueqing certainly didn't know what's on her mother's mind. She had been thinking on how to breach the topic so that she will prevent on her mouth accidentally spilled everything.
She looked at the scenery outside the window and pulled the curtain slightly, making the road on Capital City of Beast Mainland spread in front of her eyes.
Countless merchant and shops were seen along the street, bustling with people and crowd. Smell of food and snacks floated on air, and the familiar scene were making her relaxed. This was her home, the center of the Beast Mainland.
The Beast Mainland were separated into a three regions; capital city, north region and south region. In addition, there were forest surrounding the mainland which marked the borderline between Beast Mainland and the mainland where human lived in.
It's been more than a thousand years since the beasts and human were living separately in moderate peace. There had been many war between them where human were eager to make beasts their slaves, pets, and mounts.
Of course they would not accept such ridicule and insult, even though their ancestors were monsteroid animals, but now they were living, eating and behaving like human, they had feelings and conscience too!
Thus the Great War broke out.
It was said that 70% of human soldier which participated were perished in the war. It was so that they had never known the battle prowess of the beasts.
They were stronger, sturdier and fiercer. They could be coldblooded and turned into monster if they wanted.
They were civilized beasts, but if they were provoked, they would not hesitate to bring chaos and harm.
It was said that during the war, the human population were in danger of extinction. The same could be said of the beasts, even though they seemed to gain an upper hand, but their casualties couldn't be overlooked.
It was a fact that beasts always had difficulty in reproducing.
They had longer lifespan but one child every fifty years could be considered a miracle.
It was a battle in which two sides were losing equally yet no one had wanted to step back.
Until the legendary man named Sheng Li emerged. He was said to be the strongest human ever graced the earth. He was so powerful that his aura were enough to suppress both the human and beasts.
Even the animosity turned into reverence and fear in the face of Sheng Li.
He singlehandedly end the war and created a peace treaty between human and beasts. In exchange of that, they were to live separately, thus Sheng Li had helped to build a protection array around the Beast Mainland situation in the outer forest, which laid on the other side of Forbidden Ice Mountain.
It was an array filled with deadly traps and poisonous mist to avoid the event where two sides were to restart the Great War and crossed to the other side to bring destruction.
The human looked down on beasts, and beasts considered human as weakling and disdained them.
Sheng Li was the only exception, though.
Even if he was a human, but they worshipped him as God. He was bestowed given the title 'Supreme Emperor'. He was always mysterious, never appear in public and could never be found. It was thanks to Sheng Li that the mainland could maintain their peace until now.
But then, Sheng Li had abruptly disappeared.
No one had ever heard of him. Yet, people didn't dare to casually provoke him. In the scenario where he would suddenly turned up like how it was thousand years ago, it was better to maintain this thin and superficial peace.
Ouyang Xueqing retracted her gaze. "Qing'er had good news and bad news. Which one did mother want to hear first?"
Xia Wei gulped. "Don't scare mother ah!"
"I am serious." She answered solemnly.
"Then…bad news first."
"Okay, the bad news is…" Ouyang Xueqing paused. She almost couldn't hold back her laughter because her mother was obviously in jittery. "The bad news is the shaman said that my bad luck couldn't be changed."
Xia Wei paled considerably. "W—What?"
"But the good news is, this is not permanent."
"What do you mean?"
She leaned forward and whispered heavy-heartedly. "Mother, do you believe that I chose this bad luck myself in my previous life?"
Xia Wei gaped. This string of information were so unexpected that she couldn't react on time. "What do you mean? How could someone chose to have a bad luck?"
"Exactly!" She snapped her finger, looking immensely satisfied for finding someone that could understand her. Humph! Who in her right mind would choose such a decision? The shaman must be playing her! "I couldn't have made such a decision!"
"Wait wait. Mother doesn't get it ah! Explain slowly from the beginning."
Ouyang Xueqing vented her frustration by cursing the unknown man who said to possess formidable strength and the source of her misfortunes. Eventually, when she reached the part where their fate remained intertwined in this life and they would meet once again, Xia Wei's expression grew weirder.
"If I met him, humph humph, let's see how I will beat him up! Qing'er asked Imperial Father's help already, so Mother and everyone at the General's Manor should help me too! See how he will resist against a horde of high level beasts!"
Finally, she sneered in disdain. Her round black eyes were filled with contempt, but coupled it with her chubby cheeks and pouted lips, she failed to look menacing, miserably. "Plus, the event in which our first encounter will be unpredicted? It's either mortal enemies or lovers? Pui! Of course we will be mortal enemies!"
The corner of Xia Wei's mouth twitched.
Why…why did something sound wrong?
It was fine for the Lord to not grasp the main point because he's a male, but as a female with tender feelings, how could she not understand the underlying meaning in those words?
Choosing a bad luck for someone else? Does it kinda sound like…a sacrifice for love?
But how did her daughter managed to have such a bad impression of the man? It was her daughter's future destiny ah! What if their string of fate were disturbed because of the piled up hatred throughout the years?
As a mother, of course she wanted her daughter to meet a fine man, fell in love and got married.
Right, it should be like this!
She had to correct her daughter's twisted thoughts.
Xia Wei gripped her daughter's shoulder and shook her in frustration and helplessness. "Qing'er, listen to mother. There is something that mother thought you should think carefully about."
Ouyang Xueqing blinked rapidly, confused with the sudden seriousness. "What is it?"
"Well, Mother thought that you might have some kind of misunderstanding here. This fate of yours is—"
But before Xia Wei could further elaborate and enlightened her daughter...
