"ASHURA", yelled a boy across the street, he was about 14 with gray hair and purple eyes. He was waiting for someone who was already fifteen minutes late and the movie they had planned to see was ready to begin.
Ashura was panting, bent over with his hands on his knees he looked at Kidd and smiled.
"Sorry I'm late, I saw a cat on my way here trying to cross the street so I helped" he said, cats were his favorite and imagining a lanky boy of 14 trying to help a cat cross the street was a very funny picture to Kidd. He laughed and started walking into the building.
"Hurry up the movies about to start"
Running once more Ashura caught up to Kidd and smiled. He was happy, the person he cared for most was in his life.
Kidd and Ashura came from the same place. One devoted of love, care, safety and warmth. In that place they found solace in each other and left that place, together.
They were 8 when they left and had been on their own since. At a young age, Kidd had realized something and so did Ashura. They cared for each other, in a romantic way.
Kidd was 12 and they had both just finished eating. With a smile Ashura looked up,
"Hey what is love?" He asked. Kidd had stopped trying to make sense of what Ashura was thinking long ago yet he had to ask.
"where is this coming from? Are you in love with someone?"
"I don't know, that's why I'm asking"
As the more mature one of the two he sighed and with the best of his ability answered his friends question.
"I don't know much but love is something you feel...you get happy when you see that person...wish to always be by their side and would do anything too see them smile, you think of them always and no matter how dense they are, you love them regardless of the flaws they have", with shaking hands and nervous laughter, Kidd had realized what he explained was exactly what he felt for Ashura, who's bright yellow eyes looked at him expectantly. Kidd had fallen for a boy who loved cats more than anything, a boy who despite his likes had only one goal in life, to die.
Ashura looked about ready to burst with excitement and continued with his questions.
"What do you do when you love that person?"
"You confess and maybe kiss I don't know"
Ashura stood up and hovered over Kidd, who was still seated and distraught over his discovery. He leaned down towards Kidd's ear and whispered,
"I love you Kidd"
Kidd snapped his head up towards Ashura, a puzzled look on his face.
"Wa-wha-what you love me?" he stuttered
"Yeah" his smile gave the impression of certainty and happiness but his eyes told a different story, Kidd knew because he loved Ashura too and had always seen those eyes. The eyes that had no shine when they met, the eyes of someone who no longer had a reason to live but now the eyes that he was looking at were different. He was scared.
"Are you sure- wait I mean are you serious? This isn't a joke or-or a prank?" Kidd wanted to believe it but his instincts told him he had to make sure. His insecurities had skyrocketed and he was scared too.
"Of course I am, i- well I wasn't sure but you explained it and I knew, I know I love you and you know jokes are supposed to be funny" Ashura responded. He just wanted to hug Kidd and tell him he loved him. Both boys were insecure but Kidd was a mystery with emotions. He slowly reached for Kidd's face and grasped both cheeks in his hands.
"I love you Kidd, I love you so much" Ashura emphasized each syllable and leaned in. With a tender look he closed his eyes as he reached closer and kissed Kidd.
Kidd had closed his eyes seconds after Ashura and could not believe the boy he had fallen in love with felt the same and was currently kissing him. It felt surreal, with soft hands Kidd met Ashura's hands that were placed on his cheeks and let himself enjoy the moment.
Leaning back Ashura met Kidd's eyes and gasped.
"I- i am so sorry I should have asked for permission" he stammered, flustered.
"No no it's okay I was just surprised, I liked it a lot-the kiss I mean" Kidd replied.
Kidd and Ashura were both looking towards the ceiling, it had been a couple hours since they had kissed and were both basking in each other's presence.
"Hey Ashura, I love you" said Kidd
Looking to his left, Ashura smiled and replied.
"Thank you for loving me"
