"You can wear these slippers." Hyun Soo said as she put a pair of slippers in front of his feet. Do Yun just nodded and wore them.
"Please come in, it's a bit mess cause I'm always out doing part-time jobs so..." Hyun Soo said as she took him from a small three steps lobby entering the hall and alongside she took a glance at Do Yun to record his expressions.
He looked at her whole house with blank expressions. There was a hall on the right side and on the left was a kitchen parted by a narrow corridor leading towards two rooms and bathroom.
Gazing at the linen coloured walls accompanied with windows which were covered with coral and chiffon coloured sheer and plain curtains his eyes got locked with Hyun Soo'.
"How...is it?" She asked being a bit hesitant as she raised her eyebrows gradually.
"I...liked it." He said nodding his head while at the same time looking at the hall with his raised eyebrows and big doe eyes.
"Okay, then...you may sit here I'll cook something." She said and led him towards the same linen coloured sofa on which the chiffon and coral coloured cushions were placed in a way which made them look diamond-shaped.
Do Yun nodded and walked along with her as he made himself comfortable on the big three-seater sofa.
Do Yun sat there looking around his new surroundings. Since he left his house he had never been to anyone's house except for that day when he had met Sang Hyeon. He was at his house for about an hour and then he asked her that if she could let him stay in the cafe.
Hyun Soo started cooking...
She went to the kitchen it has quite a modern interior, with a black plain slab facing the hall and the other slab on the other side has a sink and a three burner stove with small black coloured cabinets. She wore her apron and tied her hair loosely into a pony.
"Do you like...beef and radish soup?" She asked with a bit of hesitation as she stood leaned forward to the slab facing the hall.
Do Yun looked at her and then gradually turning his head towards the television kept in front of him he nodded,
"Anything...will work."
Hyun Soo lips formed a bright smile at his response and she started the preparations while on the other side the rice was already kept for boiling.
Sitting on the sofa for a while not knowing what to do Do Yun stood up and went towards Hyun Soo.
"May I...help you?" He asked monotonously.
"Hm?" Hyun Soo' eyebrows lifted in surprise as she looked at him who was standing in her left.
He stood there staring right in her eyes and she instantly averted her gaze towards the radish she was cutting. She nodded slightly and replied,
"Yeah, okay. If you want to."
Do Yun smiled slightly which couldn't be noticed so easily. He bent a bit towards her and said,
"Then let me do this." He said.
"Hm? Yo-you will cut this?" She asked and he nodded childishly.
"O-okay."
As soon as she permitted he took the knife from her hands and she stepped aside. He started to cut the vegetable carefully. While his all concentration was on his work Hyun Soo on the side started to cut baby potatoes to make a side dish. From time to time she looked at him who was working diligently and a smile of relaxation could be seen on her face.
At first, she had thought, that bringing someone her house to whom she has known only for three days may be a bit uncomfortable but now that she is watching him working like it was his own house makes her feel somewhat friendly and relaxed. She was still looking at him when he turned to her and said,
"It's done!"
A sense of relief could be seen now that his work was completed perfectly.
"Uh?!" Hyun Soo exclaimed.
"Al-already?" She added.
"Hmm." He nodded and showed him the tray full of small chunks of radish.
Hyun Soo kept looking at the tray when he said,
"I'll cut them too." He said and took the potato she was holding from her hand while she kept looking at her hand and back at his hands.
He made her feel comfortable and she found it very charming of him. She had never seen any of the guys helping her with even the small things even being a friend of her.
"Do you...like cooking?"
She asked in a low voice. He nodded and replied,
"I always used to help mom."
As he said it he took a pause and looked in the void. As all the memories of his mom were reminded but quickly he went back to his work as he didn't want this mood to be ruined of his.
"I-I'll make the soup then." She said and he nodded while his gaze concentrating on the potatoes he had to cut.
After almost more than one and a half hour the dinner was ready.
"Let's eat then." She said after they prayed to God as a thanksgiving that they were able to eat and that they'll enjoy it.
They both dig into the bowl of rice and then soup and the braised potatoes. The meal was tasty and eating it with someone made it even more delicious.
"So all these years you've been eating outside ordered food?" Hyun Soo began the conversation keeping her voice low.
Do Yun shook his head and said,
"No, sometimes aunt Sang Hyeon used to bring some food from her home. She makes delicious food you should try someday." He gave friendly advice.
Hyun Soo nodded and again started to eat. Here Do Yun who was eating quietly again, broke the silence this time,
"Earlier..." He paused and she looked up at him.
"I yelled at yo-"
"No, it was... totally my fault."
"I should've informed you earlier before going out." Hyun Soo added her eyes filled with guilt.
"Moreover...you didn't scold me, you jus...just." She paused cause she didn't know in what way he talked to her earlier.
"It's okay Ms Hyun Soo."
"It should be me who...should be thankful to you."
He said and Hyun Soo looked at him with baffled expressions.
"Why?" She ended up asking.
"That day..." He said looking at his chopsticks while rolling it continuously with his fingers.
"When I came to the cafe all...wasted."
"You helped me even though you didn't know my situation."
Hyun Soo averted her gaze as she felt a bit surprised and uncomfortable about how he remembers what happened that night all of a sudden.
"If you wouldn't have been there then...I don't even know what I might have committed." He said feeling embarrassed.
"No no, it's..it's absolutely fine." She said waving her palm to him.
"But..." Her curiosity led her to spat out.
"Yes?" He looked up at her.
"How...do you remember-"
"Ah! Don't worry I just heard one phone call recording. I saw I had called you thrice that day. I feel sorry for whatever might've said to you." Gradually his head lowered as he started staring at the soup.
Here Hyun Soo sighed as she came to know that he doesn't remember everything. In these days she had understood that he doesn't like to share his feelings with anyone and that day being drunk he had blurted out each feeling of his.
"There is...one more question I want to ask." Hyun Soo added further.
"Go ahead." Do Yun said as he took one more but from his plate.
"Why do we have only us in our cafe?"
"What...do you...mean?" He asked as he leaned forward on the table keeping his hands off the table still holding the bowl with one hand while the chopsticks with the other.
"What I mean is why do we have only us as employees in the cafe?..."
