Surprise! (3)

(Lilla's POV)

Even though everything was perfect, it was getting too cold to be outside and we decided to go back home. James took my hand as I yawned and rubbed my eyes, I was exhausted. He took off my jacket as soon as I got home and laid in bed with me.

"Daddy? Can you brush my hair please?", I asked.

"Yes, love". He got the hairbrush and I sat on his lap while he gently brushed it, petting my head too. He started humming and I rested my head on his shoulder.

Without knowing when I fell asleep, I woke up not feeling well, my throat was sore and I had a headache. I tried to reach for daddy's hand but I opened my eyes since I couldn't find anything but my stuffie.

"D-daddy?", I wasn't surprised when I didn't get an answer, my throat hurt too bad to talk loud enough for him to hear me. I hugged my stuffie and closed my eyes again, a few minutes later I heard him coming in the room.

"Good morning, princess", he said, rubbing my back and smiling at me. He opened the big windows, the light that would normally get in the room, making the light blue walls brighter and prettier, that morning just made my eyes hurt and I covered them with my hands, whining. "What's wrong? Are you feeling alright?".

"Nuh uh. It hurts", I hid under the blankets.

"Oh no, what does?".

"My head... my throat and my eyes... and ouch". I whined and he pulled down the blankets to touch my forehead.

"It feels like you have a fever too. I'm sorry, it's my fault, it was too cold yesterday I shou-".

"No daddy, it was worth it", I smiled a bit, "you won't leave, right?".

"No, no, no", he kissed my cheek, "I'll always be here, I'll take care of you".

(James' POV)

I couldn't wait to show her what I made, that morning I got up early and looked for the best recipe I could find. I wanted to make doughnuts for us, I never thought I could since, to be honest, I wasn't the best at cooking but I tried them before going to her room and they tasted so good! I decorated them with dark and white chocolate and I was proud of myself.

"Also I um, I have something to show you, princess...", I said smiling, "close your eyes for a second". She did and I put the plate on her lap. "Okay, you can open them now, surprise!".

As soon as she opened her eyes, her expression changed, but not in the way I was expecting it to. She looked surprised, yes, but there was something in her eyes that made my smile dissappear. "I know I'm not the best but I didn't think it was that bad", I nervously tried to joke. She opened her mouth, shaking her head, but not a sound came out. "What? Baby, please tell me what's wrong".

She started breathing heavily, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Why, why, why?", she screamed and grabbed the plate, throwing it across the room, breaking it.

I was extremely confused and hurt, I looked at my doughnuts on the floor, mixed with broken glass, then I looked at her, my eyes begging for answers. What could I have done wrong?
