Why New York Needs Spider-Man

~*~

The next morning Jess made it to school early, thinking it would be a long day for her, sighing lightly. Rubbing her eyes while going over everything with the paper's article, knowing she needed to have it finished before school started. Adjusting herself in her chair, clearing her throat, knowing the people in the room were placing the rest of the other articles. Jess's article was going to be on the school paper's front page because the newspaper president wanted to have her story told. They were mainly wondering how she would tell the story of what Spider-Man meant to her and the city's others. Why New York Needs Spider-Man, is the title of the article for the school newspaper she had been working on for a while now since Spider-Man had first saved her. Knowing it was the article that brought out the best of her and her own story in her mind that mattered. The new hero for New York people needed to know we have to know the Avengers aren't always going to be there for everyone all the time.

Spider-Man can help them out with all the other problems coming into Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, etc. Of course, not everyone would agree with them since Spider-Man isn't like Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, etc. Jess would have to disagree with them since she had been saved twice by the wall-crawler knowing he was important to her city. Printing off the picture, Spider-Man Peter had gotten for her since she had asked him to help her out with that when they were chilling during lunch at school. Which happened to be the second time she'd been saved by him that night, knowing it was the first kiss she had with someone. Who she also happened to know the true identity of the Spider-Man being none other than her best friend. Honestly, she felt like she had known this person behind the mask though she couldn't figure out who it was exactly at the time. She then started to type out the article she wanted to type out for a while since Washington D.C. Homecoming felt this would be the perfect time to do this. The knowledge Jess has now, but she wouldn't ever tell another soul who the person was behind the mask.

What is a hero? When we think of the word hero, what comes to mind? A person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character. In others' opinions, a person has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal. These are just the definitions of the word *hero* itself since we all can look up something simply thinking we know it all? Do we really take the time to sit down and think about the things in our simple everyday lives? Do we ever think the person behind the mask sacrifices anything? No, people only think of them as a vigilante, a public menace to society.

Always in the way of things, we never stop to think they are taking a risk too. They are putting on the costume and mask, putting their lives on the line to help and stick up for the little guy. Yes, you can argue, "no one asked for them to help us" or "we don't need their help." All points are true; of course, no one asked them to help us, which happens to be the best part. Mostly because it's apart of being a hero, no one asks them since it's a selfless act. Spider-Man is a hero who looks out for the little guy, a true hero. Taking risks and performing these selfless acts that our higher authority officials can't get in time. No one else wants to do or even think about it since it would be too tasking to take on the tasks.

What can be said for the minority of people who love a true hero? People will line up for them, cheer their names, then years look back from now. Talking about how they stood in the rain for hours to get a glimpse of the one who told them to hold on a second longer. A hero exists in all of us, to be honest, that gives us the strength to fight for what we think is right. To keep us on the straight and narrow, for we shouldn't step away when others do. Caring for those around us and to be noble though we sometimes have to give up the things we want most in life—even our dreams. Spider-Man has done this for us and with him gone, what would we do then? We need someone like him to stay here in our fair city.

What good is it to call this the city of dreams, an empire state of mind? If you can make it here, then you can make it anywhere? If we can't allow ourselves to trust someone else to make our city safe? What good is there to have a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man if there's no neighborhood? From this, I ask of you to keep this in mind while walking home or driving home. To think about how things will be changing for the better. *For in a short distance away --and a lean, silent figure slowly fades into the gathering darkness, aware at last that in this world, with great power there must also come---great responsibility! And so a legend is born, a new name is added to the roster of those who make the world of fantasy the most exciting realm of all!* (credited to Stan Lee, since I'm doing this for him at this part. I wanted something of his to be a part of my story since this part that is starred is the ending of his first Spider-Man comic book. :) Thank you, Stan Lee :)) For who would be this hero with this gift, this curse? Well, just our own Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!

Finished typing out what Jess had written on the computer, putting her hands behind her head. She was waiting for her article to print out smiling, walking over to the printer pulling out the paper, and taking it over the president with her taking Jess's article. They ended up printing off the school newspaper hot off the presses, spreading them out throughout the school to read it. Once school opened, the other students walked in with Ned, and Peter noticed all the students were reading Jess's article noticing the picture he took. Ned grabbed both, reading the article with everyone else thinking it was perfect, and Jess should write stories like this.

"Dude, this is really good, plus you need to date Jess," Ned said to Peter, who folded his arms.

Peter shook his head, "I can't Ned, she knows why we can't, and I don't want to put her through all this. I didn't even want you to know this."

"Yeah, but shouldn't Jess tell you she does or not," asked Ned, looking over at his friend.

Peter sighed and nodded, "Sure, but this something different than just us dating. If I weren't Spider-Man, I wouldn't mind. Though I don't want her to worry about something bad happening to me or, worse, something happens. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if any harm came to her."

"I get Peter, though. I still say you should talk with her; I'll see you in class," Ned said to him before taking off for their Spanish class.

Peter sighed before heading towards Jess's locker, wondering if she would talk with him about what they talked about last night. Dragging his feet, walking down the hallway, wondering what to think about this since he got nervous about what she was going to say? Jess had taken her books out of her locker before closing it then looking over to see Peter brushing some hair behind her ear. Shifting on her feet while she was looking over at Peter, knowing it would be the time to tell him how she felt. Knowing Peter took a chance for telling her something that had to be one of the most difficult things he's ever had to do.

"Jessie, you're article was really great, honestly," Peter said, smiling at her thinking it would be alright.

Jess smiled at Peter, "Thanks, Peter, I've got to tell you something about last night."

"Jessie, I don't want you to think that---" Peter felt Jess gently placing her hand over his mouth.

Jess removed it, smiling, "Peter, I've chosen to take risks with you. Of course, there's always going to be dangers regardless if we're together or not. I want to face them with you because you're always going to be there for me. Isn't it about time someone saved your life? Well, say something?"

Peter listened to her talking only to have his goofy grin on his face while she talked to him about how she knew this, but it didn't matter.

"Thank you, Jessica," Peter said to her, seeing her smiling.

They shared a brief kiss before he heard his phone going off, noticing it was Happy before heading there while Jess went to her class smirking. Heading into the men's restroom, he told Peter that he didn't know what he would be doing right now without this job. He needed to owe Peter for this only to hear the toilet flush with him knowing this would be awkward no matter what. The kid washed his hands, finding it peculiar that Peter and Happy were in the restroom talking.

Once the kid left them alone, Happy told him that Tony wants to see him upstate where the new Avenger's headquarters. Peter and Happy left the school with Peter sitting in the back seat, looking out the window, thinking about how things would go? Happy put the car in cruise control, telling Peter about as they pulled into the tower's front doors. Peter is in awe about what he was witnessing at this moment right now think it to be really cool to see all of this. Waiting for Happy to walk out with Tony and looked over at them when they came thinking about what Mr. Stark was going to say?

"Happy you mind if you loosely follow while I talk with the kid," Tony said to him while wrapping his arm around Peter.

Peter walked with Tony wondering what he was going to say about him taking on the Vulture guy?

"Sorry I took your suit. I mean, you had it coming. Actually, it turns out it was the perfect sort of tough love moment you needed, right? To urge you on. Wouldn't you think? Don't you think?" asked Tony while looking over at Peter.

Peter shrugged with him, unsure what to say to Mr. Stark about what he just said to him.

Tony sighs, "Let's just say it was."

"Mr. Stark, I'm..." Peter rubs the back of his neck.

Tony walking and talking with him, "You screwed the pooch hard. Big time. But then you did the right thing: you took the dog to the free clinic, you raised the hybrid puppies...alright, not my best analogy. I was wrong about you. I think with a little more mentoring; you could be a real asset to the team."

"To the, to the...to the team?" Peter stuttered in shock about what he was just told.

Tony nodded and smiled, "Yeah! Anyway, there are about 50 reporters behind that door, real ones, not bloggers, so when you're ready..."

Tony typed the code into his pad on his wrist, showing an Iron Spider Armor with Peter noticing it. Walking over towards his new suit, thinking it was really amazing, he would be apart of the Avengers.

"Why don't you try that on...and I'll introduce the world to the newest official member of the Avengers: Spider-Man," Tony said to Peter.

Peter soon realized he would have to stay here and didn't want to leave his friends, let alone Jessie.

"I would prefer just to be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, stay low to the ground," Peter said, looking over at Mr. Stark.

Tony took off his shades, looking at him, wondering what Peter thought it would be interesting.

"Are you sure about it? You need to think about this?" asked Tony, making sure Peter was sure just in case.

Peter nodded, "Yes, I'm sure about this, Mr. Stark, thank you for this."

Tony nodded and shook Peter's hand, smiling at this thinking it would be a long day before they were going their separate ways with Peter going out to the car with Pepper upset with the fact they screwed this up. Tony planned on asking Pepper to marry him while Happy took Peter back to his apartment building. Peter entered his bedroom while wondering if Aunt May was here when he noticed the paper sack on his bed. Double-checking to make sure Aunt May wasn't here when he put the Spider-Man suit on looking out the window. Not realizing May was right behind him when he pulled off his mask, thinking this was something else.

"WTF!" May said in shock with Peter's eyes widened.
