Brianna

I cast a glance behind me. The beast was gone.

How?

My pace slowed as my mind reeled with the possibility of the animal not being real.

How wrong I was.

The distraction dulled my senses from being alert to my surroundings. When my head whipped back around, a startled scream was ripped from my throat. The animal was no longer behind me because somehow it had gotten in front.

My toes dug in the ground, and my feet skidded along the dirt. I came to a halt about a foot away from the wolf.

The curious beast from earlier was no longer present. Those features were replaced with bare sharp, white teeth. A deep growl drained from its mouth. He appeared bigger. Taller. Scarier.

Oh, God!

I stretched out trembling fingers. "Good, doggy. I won't… I won't… Please don't bite me."

My breathing hitched at the sound of bones cracking.

No, no, no. Oh, God, no!
