Chapter 2

"Miss Butterfly," Mr. Frog whispered into my ear. "Watch out for Lady Jellyfish. She gets easily jealous of female tenants."

"Ok."

It was the morning of my second day in the strange apartment building. Mr. Frog was kind enough to help me with my new ‘People to Avoid' list, although I never asked him to. I generally avoid everyone, but there are just some people you really have to make an effort to avoid.

Jealous? What's there to be jealous of?

I didn't give it any further thought and hurried off to school. During class, I wondered about Lady Jellyfish. How did she end up being called that? Is it because of her name? Or her appearance?

I wanted to meet her out of curiosity, but that was probably a bad idea. I had the feeling Lady Jellyfish wasn't someone pleasing to meet.

When I got back to Aqua Chrysalis from school that day, there was a human? No, dog. No, human...with a dog's head in the lobby. More surprises. Hooray.

"You are the new tenant, woof?" said the human dog. "I am Professor Dog, woof."

"Are you..?" I couldn't figure out what he was.

"Am I a dog? Am I human?" Prof. Dog laughed. "I wonder, woof."

"You don't know?"

"I don't know if I know or don't know, woof."

"I see."

"I can help you with homework, woof."

"Thanks for the offer, but I'm good."

"Your name is Butterfly, woof?"

"Yes."

"Beautiful name."

"Thank you."

Prof. Dog went back to reading his newspaper, so I went in the elevator and got to my floor. I wanted to avoid any more of Prof. Dog's confusing statements. I had no homework to do, so I picked up a book and read it.

The room was silent. Very silent. I was worried that my ears would bleed from the loss of sound.

But that's just how it is when you're alone.

It must have been in the middle of the night when an intruder entered my floor while I was half-asleep. I was foolish to trust the building's security.

"Humph." I heard a woman's voice.

I kept my eyes closed as the footsteps approached my bed. A hand stroked strands of my hair gently. Really creepy.

"Humph."

I didn't understand why she kept going 'humph'.

This time, she circled the bed and stopped once in a while to go 'humph'. I didn't like being watched at all.

I opened my eyes. "Umm… Can you please stop looking at—"

The woman had a syringe ready.
