Chapter 5

"I'm fine thank you," I replied politely.

He looked rather disappointed with my plain and practiced reply. Immediately after we both sat down, he went straight to the point: "Butterfly, you were attacked last night weren't you?"

I nodded.

"And you hid here in my apartment."

He knew?! So that's why he asked me to dinner. He wants to confront me about why I led Lady Jellyfish into his floor and disturbed his peaceful rest.

"I'm sorry!" I immediately said and hoped for his forgiveness. "I meant to hide in the lobby, but I pressed the wrong button." I bowed in apology and waited for an answer.

"Get up. You're lucky I was there to drive her away." He didn't sound angry. Thank goodness.

I got up and was surprised to find Mr. Shark looking rather amused.

Before long, his face turned serious. "But Lady Jellyfish will be back. And you must learn to defend yourself."

Defend myself from a crazy woman with a syringe? It sounded possible, but who knew what kind of tricks the jellyfish lady had in store. How can a butterfly defend against a jellyfish? In the wild, the two don't even encounter. Ever.

Mr. Shark looked like he knew the answer.

"There's a reason why there are butterflies in your floor," he said.

"There is?" I thought they were just there to keep me company, or to match my nickname.

"They're for defense." Mr. Shark stood up. "Allow me to demonstrate."

When he whistled, all the sharks gathered together and waited for further orders. It was unbelievable how he got them to line up like a battalion of soldiers. It seemed that Aqua Chrysalis had plenty of unusual sights and experiences to offer.

At Mr. Shark's command, the sharks leaped out of their own aquariums and into another, with more force than grace. They could have easily ripped off someone's head. And they could reach you anywhere in the room.

So that's why the aquariums are taking up most of the space.

"Great whites are good at this." Mr. Shark looked at his tank full of Great White sharks. It was then when I noticed that each species had its own tank.

"What if the enemy bends down?" I asked.

Mr. Shark smiled sadistically. "I flood the room. That will make them wish they never dodged in the first place."

As expected of him, a hunter at heart.
