"Aaron Everett is a magnet for bad luck. It's his first day as a scholarship student at elite Sherwood Academy, home of the children of the rich and famous. Being the only poor kid is bad enough- not having the 'unofficial' uniform everybody is wearing makes it worse. Top it off with a bully, a broken bag, and an odd interaction, and officially his first day has gone to hell.
Just when he thinks it can't get any worse, he opens a door to a strange world and falls into a debt of several hundred thousand dollars.

"You really don't have to do this," Aaron said for the twentieth time.


Roman rolled his eyes for the twentieth time. "Yes I do. The whole Six Flags catastrophe was my fault, because the trip was my idea, and I'm going to make it up to you if it kills me!"


That dramatic declaration was new, and Aaron couldn't help but laugh despite his unease. It faded quickly though, and he lapsed back into silence while Roman shot glances at him, wondering what he was thinking.
