One thing that I admire about Mitilda is that she holds a high ranking status and acts normal. No one is better than her. She treats everyone equally and holds everyone to the same standards. She doesn't hold meetings in an office. She holds meetings over breakfast. She doesn't bark orders she ask for ideas. I trust her with my life. Seeing the person that you trust explicitly walk into the house carrying an arm full of long barreled guns makes that faith waiver just a little bit.
"Hey guys. I am sorry for running late to the meeting that I called." Mitilda said laying the guns carefully down on the coffee table. I instinctly put myself in front of Seoul.
"What is the meaning of this Mitilda?" Alpha Foster demanded. His eyes darkened and his fist are balled up at his side.
"Werewolves don't use guns. Werewolves don't posses guns." Dean growled looking at the table.
"Calm down sir! I'm sure Mitilda has her reasons." Neve said hoping to ease the alphas concerns.
"We have confiscated these from hunters over the past few years. Now I am hoping that we can repurpose them to benefit our cause." Mitilda starts,
"Don't you think that you are being a little insensitive?" Jackson growled.
"Maybe I am but this would give us the upper hand when we attack Verners compound. No one is going to expect it and no one will know how to react. I am hoping that it will be a big enough surprise that half of Verners forces will stand down." Mitilda explained.
"You are aware that if the council finds out you can be investigated." Dean barked.
"If the council cared they would have put a stop to both Daniel and the witch." Mitilda seethed.
"You can't be serious!" Dean growled.
"No, she has a point." Alpha Foster said.
"Rin, baby breath." Jackson whispers in my ear. I let out the breath that I had been holding but my eyes didn't stray from the high caliber weapons on the table. Guns don't kill people. People kill people and the people around me know nothing about gun safety. One wrong move and someone could end up badly injured or worse dead.
"How do you plan on teaching the wolves that are willing to use a gun how to use it safely and effectively?" Alpha Foster challenged.
"I am hoping that Rin will teach us. She sold guns on the streets while living in Korea. To sell effectively you have to know your product." Mitilda shrugs. I can feel my blood pressure rising. I start to sweat. My stomach twist into a knot. Anger courses through my veins.
"How dare you make what I was having to do to survive sound like a day job. Guns give you the power over life and death. You don't pick up a gun and point it at someone unless you plan to use it. They aren't meant to use to manipulate someone. They aren't toys nor are they a trump card." I yell feeling the hot tears stream down my face.
"Mommy you need to breath normally." Seoul said hugging my leg. I squat down and engulf my son in a hug. We survived that day, Seutig didn't. We escaped that life Seutig didn't.
"Alpha Mitilda, I respect you and what you are trying to do but I refuse to expose my mate to something that she clearly has worked very hard to get away from. You and I both sat together and listened to her story. None of what she shared with us was meant to be exposed as publicly as you have done nor was it an invitation to ask for favors. You as an alpha should understand confidentially." Jackson said. His tone indicated his anger but he never raised his voice. He was respectful.
"Is this true Mitilda?" Alpha Foster demanded.
"Dad I..." Mitilda started but fell short.
"Meeting adjourned!" Alpha Foster yelled. I watch through bleary eyes as everyone files out of Mitildas house. After everyone of a lower status had cleared the house Alpha Foster pulled Mitilda outside leaving the three of us alone.
"Can I ask you a question?" Jackson asks as he sits down on the floor next to us. I meet his gaze and nod.
"Do you really think that having weapons like this wont be beneficial when it comes to freeing those girls? When wolves fight they do it with their claws and teeth. Its a fight until one submits or its a fight to the death. Either way it is a very nasty and bloody battle. How is using a gun any different?" Jackson explains.
"Anyone can die at anytime. It doesn't have to be with a gun. The thing about guns especially with ones as high caliber as those are their is no margin of error. Unlike with say your claws or even your teeth. You choose where you bite and how hard you bite. You pick up one of those with the goal to slow someone down but you miss your target spot. If that bullet hits anything vital or its fragments hits anything vital they wont survive." I stress.
"Alright, I see your point. As a gamma my job is to make sure that the warriors are prepared to fight and defend the territory that we live on. In all of my years of training never once has any one mentioned the idea of using a gun because of the destruction that they can cause. We have always used what the moon goddess gave us or made weapons from what we can find naturally around us." Jackson explains.
"Naturally?" I ask.
"Yeah, most packs grow wolfsbane. Its ground up and then placed into water. After the mixture sits for a couple days we put things like handcuffs, and knives in. If we are doing something big like a prison cage we will put it in a spray bottle and coat the wiring." Jackson says.
"What if we mix it with something to make it go boom?" I ask.
"Like a bomb?" Jackson asks.
"Mhm that's just one option. If we could find all of the right ingredients we could turn it into like a smoke bomb. Where it would continuously spray. If we could pressurize it we could make something similar to pepper spray or the oldest trick in the book. Put the mixture into water balloons and fire them at our enemies with sling shots." I offer.
"That is a pretty good idea. Wolfsbane is toxic for both wolves and humans. We could incapacitate both with out causing any serious injuries. Then we could take out any of the major players the old fashioned way." Jackson offered smiling.
"The only thing that I don't like about it is that leaves you and Seoul unprotected." Mitilda says.
"When did you get back?" Jackson asks glancing over his shoulder.
"Long enough to catch the tail end of your idea. I say lets give it a shot. We can make some prototypes and then call our test dummies to come and pick you three up." Mitilda says with a wide grin on her face.
"Test dummies to come and pick us up?" Jackson ask.
"Yes, Grant, Finn and Ash. I am sure that they have been looking tirelessly for you three with no luck. I'll call them here and tell them we have been holding you guys here as prisoners. When they come onto the territory for negotiations we will incapacitate them and lift the curse. Then we will tell them what is really going on." Mitilda explains.
"That's a big gamble but if it works it works." Jackson says shrugging. He sounds bored but I can tell that he is impressed. His eyes light up when he gets excited.
"Hey Jackson, will you go fill in the others? I would like to talk to Rin alone for a minute. All traces of excitement evaporated. Jackson held a blank face. Mitilda didn't say anything more to him. Her command wont work but she glanced to me. Her eyes pleading for help.
"Jackson, its okay. I'll be fine." I say. He sighs and gives me a kiss on the forehead before leaving us alone.
"Listen Rin, I want to apologize for doing what I did. This is the first large scale mission that I have gotten to lead. I had convinced myself that if I brought these weapons into the picture I would impress my father. Believe it or not he didn't want to leave the pack to me just because of tradition. Women aren't suppose to be making the decisions that I do. I'm suppose to be a motherly figure. In the end I only ended up making an ass out of myself and I hurt a very dear friend. I hope that you can forgive me." She explains.
"Thank you for explaining. I accept your apology." I offer with a soft smile.
"Now, you do know that you can't handle the wolfsbane or train?" Mitilda asks.
"Why? I don't have any medical conditions that would prevent me from participating." I ask furrowing my eye brows.
"Jacksons senses are not as strong as mine which is why he hasn't noticed but your pregnant." Mitilda explains.
"Eh?" is all that I can manage to get out. Seoul had hinted at it in one of his drawings but he is five. How could a five year old know something like that?
"Its not uncommon for wolves to be able to sense conception. Where your human you wouldn't have any symptoms until later but I bet Seoul already knew. His alpha genes are strong." Mitilda says as she ruffles his hair.
"Don't stress too much about it right now. I'll make up an excuse later to kidnap you and then we will go see the doctor that we have here." Mitilda says.
How can I not stress?
Moon goddess give me strength.
"Lets go meet up with everyone else in the Packhouse." Mitilda said pulling me out of the house. Seoul is attached to my hip stroking my fading hair. He senses my stress.
A normal life is all that I have ever wanted.
"Just hold out a little bit longer." The voice said.
Just a little bit longer
