CHAPTER 5: THE DEAL

He scanned through the pages for about a minute before he dropped them on the table. "I don't see anything special here. I can't accept this"

"How can you say that when you hardly even looked at it" if not for this business deal, I would have thrown the papers in his face. And to think he said that we should leave our childhood rivalry out of this. "Mr. Caphas would have accepted this deal"

I noticed the somewhat sour look that showed on his face momentarily, as I mentioned Mr. Caphas.

"I am not Uncle Nick and I have no intention of accepting a proposal that could have the possibility of costing us millions of dollars. No offense, but from the little I've seen in here, there's not much to go with." I sighed at him and stood up. If he thought I was going to beg him for this, he was dreaming then. I still had my pride to protect and grovelling was not an option, especially since it was Sam. I would look for other ways to prove my worth as the one through heir of Williams Corp.

"This was obviously a waste of time. I'll be on my way"

"Wait," I turned around out of curiosity.

"Are you giving up so easily? I never took you from the type to back down so easily, after all you always retaliated to every one of my pranks and threats"

This man is really so frustrating. I thought he said the proposal wasn't worth it. I wonder what exactly he wants me to do about it. Although he's trying to sound all professional, I'm pretty sure he's deliberately giving me such a hard time. Deep down he still holds grudges from our childhood. Urgh, what an annoying man.

"You said it wasn't a good deal. What do you want me to do about it?"

He sighed like as if he was talking to a child. "I want you to fight for it, but I guess if you can't do that, the deal is not worth being approved. You can go."

I had already turned around to leave but then it downed on me. Even though Sam was an insufferable jerk, he was right. I couldn't give up on this so easily. To top it all up, if Rebecca knew about this, she would definitely snatch it up like a wolf hunting its prey. I'm pretty sure Sam would be more than happy to approve it for her just to spite me.

I turned back and faced him. I put on a sickly sweet smile for him. "How else can I prove to you the worth of this deal?"

He turned away from his laptop. I could see the smirk forming on his face before he normalized his expression. Uh oh I'm in serious trouble.

"I need to be sure your skills are as good as they say they are. I'm commissioning a new hotel in Jordan next week and I want your opinion on the furniture"

He couldn't possibly be serious. "You know I can't. I told you I wouldn't go there"

He put his hand on his chin pretending to be deep in thought. "Remind me again why you vowed never to go there"

I pinched my nose in frustration. He was asking questions he already knew the answer to. Nonetheless I decided to humor him. "Because that's where you're from, and the last place I want to be is in your country with you."

He seemed pleased with my reply "I thought we put the rivalry behind us. I did try for you. Too bad we can't do business then. Good day Ms. Williams"

I grunted in response. He knew how much this deal meant to me. I should start counting the scores again; 16-15. He might have won this round, but this is surely not the end. I would make his live miserable in Jordan. I would have thought with all our history he would have know just how capable I was at causing him trouble. But I guess he's about to find out all over again.

"Did you want to say something essi?"

Urrgh. Not that damned name again.

"Yeah. Count me in. Send me the details of the trip. And this time try to do it yourself"

He clucked. "maybe, maybe not" I turned around to go. Thanking god this dreadful meeting was finally over.

I wish I never had to do business with him, or even so much as see him again, but I guess fate had other unfortunate plans for me. Its such a pity good looks were wasted on someone like him. Not that I find him attractive or anything, that can never happen, not even in a thousand years. I only just happened to notice he looked nice is all. After all I still had eyes and I could very well appreciate when things looked nice.

"And essi?" I turned around with the door already opened "Green isn't your color"

I angrily slammed his door, and left before I did anything drastic. I could still hear his soft chuckles at the door after slamming it.

His assistant looked a little surprised at the way I walked out fuming, and slammed his door. She looked like she wanted to say something. I would have given her a piece of my mind for what she did earlier with the angry mood I was in right now, if she had made the mistake of stopping me, but luckily for her she didn't.

I got on into the lift quietly. "Good riddance" I spoke to myself in the elevator. What a terrible human. He doesn't know whats coming for him just yet. He's in for one hell of a ride.

After the elevator dinged open. I made home directly, not bothering to go to the company anymore. I would tell my assistant to forward all my work. I deserved some rest after a long and hectic day like today.
