Back in the hospital, nurse Kara sat next to the baby and kept on playing with her. Mariah walked into the room and shook her head in disapproval.
"Why are you still sitting in front of the baby? What about the permission you asked me earlier to allow you to leave early today?" Mariah asked.
"No, I am just going to leave now. But…" Kara hesitated to go. She didn't want to leave the baby alone.
"But what? Didn't you say, you have a date with Emma today? Just go. I will stay here and look after your precious baby."
Once she was sure that Mariah would stay behind, Kara felt a little peace of mind. She then left to search for her partner Emma. When she met Emma, her smile broadened.
"You look happy today. What happened? Please do not tell me that it is because of the leftover twin baby," Emma complained while pulling her into a hug.
"Shut up! If you call her once again as a leftover, I would break up with you!" Kara declared and moved away in distress.
"I am sorry! I am so sorry, Sweetie! I did not know you were so attached to that baby. I am really sorry. So, if you like her so much then why don't we adopt her?" Emma asked while trying to cool down her lover a little bit.
Kara stopped and looked at her with a shocking expression. She had never thought about extending their family but if Emma is fine, then… She dreamed about a perfect family of three. It looked so sweet and her face once again brightened.
"Were you serious when you made that suggestion?" Kara looked at Emma and asked seriously.
"Why not? Don't you have any plans to extend our family? Or are you planning to ditch me?" Emma raised one of her eyebrows and asked.
"No! Never! I love you!" Kara dropped a kiss on Emma's lips.
"But you are really serious about adopting Dina?" Kara asked.
"Who is Dina now?" Emma confusedly asked.
"The infant who was left behind by Grace. They planned to name the babies Tina and Dina. Since the baby did not breathe after she was born, we thought she was a still-born baby. But later when I picked her up, she cried…I held her in both my hands and the baby came back to life. It's a miracle you know," There were tears formed in Kara's eyes after she thought about that precious moment.
"If you really wish to, then I will support your decision," Emma said as she understood now that there was no option for her to back off.
Emma was a resident doctor who was three weeks away from finishing her residency. She met Kara during an emergency call one day and they both liked each other from the time they came to know each other. Slowly, their chemistry worked out and they were already in the phase of settling down.
Emma had an offer in her hand but she had to move to another city. Today, she was planning to propose to Kara and ask her hand in marriage. But looking at Kara's excitement about Dina, she was not sure if this was the correct moment to ask her to shift along with her to the other city.
"What are you thinking? If you do not like me adopting Dina, then you can say that directly to me. I won't judge you or leave you for that!" Kara said while holding her hands tightly.
Emma could feel her shivering inside. Kara badly wanted to adopt that baby and she could understand that clearly. Her eyes displayed the fear she was holding inside her mind. She was afraid that Emma might go back on her decision and she could never hold the baby again.
"No, it is not about that. Also, remember, we are adopting the baby together and not you alone. Actually, I was not hesitant, because I was thinking about the baby. You already know right, I received an offer last week. I am planning to accept that offer." Emma said while looking at Kara in her eyes.
"Wow! It is a good thing. So why are you worried about that my dear, Doctor?" Kara asked while almost jumping in joy.
She could not believe the minute Dina came into their life everything would go so smoothly and wonderfully.
Emma took a deep breath and said, "I need to move to the other city in another two months. So, I wanted to ask you, are you willing to move along with me to the new city?"
Finally, she put the news out in open and looked at Kara's face with expectation. She could not accept rejection at this point. She knows she can't live without her.
"Definitely. I will follow you even if you invite me to hell," Kara proclaimed.
"I love you! I really really love you," Emma declared.
She pulled Kara near her and kissed her deeply. Their tongues intertwined with each other and played together. Their kiss lasted for a very long time until they both had troubled breathing.
Emma picked up her phone and made a call to her mother while holding Kara in one hand.
"Mom, she agreed! Can you believe it? And we are planning to adopt a baby." She shouted in joy.
Kara felt shy as her cheeks were still flushed with a tinge of pink and her lips had turned bright red because of the deep kiss they had moments ago. She held Emma's hand tightly and stroked it with her hand. Emma smiled and blew a kiss in the air.
Later, they both went to Emma's room and had an unforgettable night. The next day, when Kara went back to the hospital to inform everyone about the good news, she was shocked to see Mariah shouting on the phone.
"What do you mean it was not a mistake from your end? How can you send us a copy of the death certificate when the child is still alive? What nonsense are you talking about?" Mariah screamed while holding the phone tightly in her hand.
Kara raised her eyebrows and asked her co-worker Ava, "what's happening?"
Ava moved close to her ears and whispered, "The twin baby, who got left behind two days ago; it looks like they have already informed the office that the baby was still-born and today we received a death certificate. Mariah lost her temper once she saw it and called the respective office to grill them."
Suddenly, Kara realized that it was her opportunity. If the kid goes into the system, then she was not sure if they would even let them adopt her. She wanted to grasp this chance that was presented right in front of her eyes.
So, she rushed towards the phone and pulled the receiver from Mariah's hands. She calmly spoke to the representative and apologized.
"We are sorry! It was a misunderstanding from our end. We did not process the correct data in our system. We apologize for the inconvenience that we have caused. And thank you! Have a nice day." She didn't wait to hear any response from the other end and slammed the phone down.
