New Beginnings

Stacy stood in a hospital room. It was a small delivery room set up as she just gave birth. There sat a empty hospital crib waiting for the new arrival, how could this just happen? Henry sat quietly with his head spinning with questions...why did that young miss choose them? Are they really getting a baby with no strings attached? Will they look like each other enough so no questions are asked? All he could do was sit quietly as his wife paced with excitement. Before they were aware morning came, it was before the sun rose and the hospital was quiet because there were no nurses only one doctor. This young miss really planned this well. Too well for such a young person to have all details covered like her life depended on it.

The doctor who they worked with so closely came into the room. Stacy was holding her breath waiting to hear bad news as her luck with becoming a mom has been all bad news. But in the doctors arms he held what looked like a tiny bundle. The doctor walked over to Stacy and placed a tiny girl in her arms. "You understand this was born from you, after many attempts we finally have a viable pregnancy. She is small so we will say she was very early and unexpected. Welcome your new daughter 5 pounds and 17 inches long!"

Henry stumbled over to his wife holding their new daughter, she's so perfect! Look at that brown hair!! Both parents had blonde hair so this might be tough but his family did have brown hair too so we can make this pass he thought to himself. Saying those words out loud seemed to risk everything. His wife held on for dear life afraid to put this precious girl down. "I love the name Sandra! She looks like a Sandra and I hope you like it..." Stacy stood there hoping her husband loved it. He looked her over with a grin, this is his daughter Sandra. His very own daughter! By the smile he had plastered on his face Stacy knew her name is Sandra.

Sandra grew up to be spoiled by both her parents but it never made her act like she was entitled. She watched her parents struggle for her needs and wants so she understood the sacrifices made for her. She also saw the way other children grew up with a mother who hated the fact they were made to stay home watching children all day, never allowed to have a career. Women had expectations from where they lived. They were expected to create more people to continue working in the factories or to raise more children. This was very strict in their community and cause a lot of distaste for women who had no options in life. Sandra also saw her parents argue late at night trying to decide what to do if their daughter didn't want to be just a mom, what if she wanted more and they way she acted she wanted way more than just a woman to produce children. They decided to take the leap with the little saving they had to leave this town for another where women could learn jobs and live on their own. It would be a completely different district and they would both have to work to make it but Sandra was turning ten and she needed opportunities! So the day came when they packed up everything they owned and left their little cottage for a new life.
