For someone who served in the army her whole life, it is honestly weird listening about the war propaganda. The colonial propaganda has been giving their best to portray our southern neighbours as villains. From their descriptions, you would think that the Emerald Colonies are trying to restore the ancient elven empire. The same one that ruled the world and treated all other species as servants. And to think we were allies until recently.
Honestly, I wish I could laugh at all of this. Back in my previous life, veterans often checked war propaganda like the one currently being presented for laughs. Veterans knew idealism existing on posters, pictures, videos and stories never existed. We all learned that the hard way. So, if this was happening back then, I would probably visit a pub or a bar somewhere with officers, having drinks while having a good time before our tickets for hell arrive. Unfortunately, that is just a good memory now.
At least something is similar, much to my confusion and chagrin. Arcadion now made an actual radio. Sorry, voice receiver, as he calls it. But I will call what it truly is, a radio. Already it has been installed in all major cities and working as intended. We at guild have been lucky enough to get an early version so we can listen to it without the need to go to the public square. Granted, it currently is mostly war propaganda when it's on air, but it gives others a unique feel so it's still popular. Every time when it's airing, people huddle around it and listen.
And to think that's the less strange than the other invention making its waves. They made a helicopter of all things. Granted, they call it gyrocopter, and for once, due its design, I am willing to follow the naming scheme. After all, instead of traditional design, they are using two blade rotors side-by-side. Nevertheless, I am genuinely awestruck at sight of them. Credence model military gyrocopters have been making their patrols around the city, showing the technological progress of Metzaca. You can see thousands of people staring at them every time you hear their engines.
I am honestly curious at what technology will finally break the internal logic of this strange world. I mean, I guess I can understand that some of these were always dreamed of seeing in action by humans and other races. However, we now have proto-robots in golems, a video-call service in magic mirror, a radio in voice receivers, tanks and gyrocopters. And that's just on the top of my head. How long will it continue before we turn this country into strange version of my old home? Where is the limit of this mana-cell technology that powers everything?
Of course, I have been ignoring the major elephant in the room. I would assume, if you are reading this, you had access to history book and are aware of the Great Awakening, the event which started the destruction of the ancient Gardsordian Empire. They say that an explosive device developed by goblins was what triggered the destruction of their capital and deaths of the legendary elven Sorcerer Kings. In my mind, with all the technology developments present now, I could maybe believe that goblins somehow managed to develop a nuclear bomb, unlikely as it may be.
But, even if it's possible, there is a massive problem. While I have never been at site of the crater where the capital used to be, just by descriptions of the size and explosion from old records tells me that a singular nuclear device couldn't have achieved such results. For that size, you would need an anti-matter bomb, something that you can't even dream off in world such as this. The technology needed for such feat is centuries ahead of us, even with this sudden tech boom we are experiencing.
At least I am not alone in this confusion. Rigurd too is struggling to figure this out. He made several contacts with others of our kind back on the continent. Maybe they can help us figure out what the deal is with Governor Arcadion. Is he one of us or just a genius? Well, not like I have anything better to do while the war is on.
