Meeting the Headmistress

'Where have you been, Mr.Idiot', I found myself thinking or to say more precisely, communicating with my inner consciousness. I was sitting in a luxurious car with a silent driver and a handsome man with a kind face, Adam. We have been travelling in the car for about twenty minutes. We were nearing the airport, from where we will be taking a flight to the capital, where the school I am supposed to attend is situated.

'I thought you needed sometime on your own', Idiot replied in my mind. He was supposed to help me after understanding my feelings and now, now he says I wanted sometime alone. I never wanted time alone. When I am sad, I like to talk to someone, to share my pain.

'You know what, Idiot. You don't know to do your job", I said. I could now see the airport in the distance through the glass window of the car.

'I don't know what happened, but your mind was sort of, muddled for the whole time, it was hard to distinguish what you wanted', Idiot made an excuse, though a part of me suspected 'it' was right. After all I couldn't control my body and mind there and maybe that had some effect on my mind.' Whatever', I thought in a careless way, ending our conversation.

We reached the airport and took the flight to the Capital. The flight went by without much incident. We reached the Capital and got on a car that was waiting for us, and would take us to the school.

"Its still a week early for the School to reopen after the summer break", Adam said, looking at me. Looking at his eyes was hard. They were so deep blue that when you stared at them it felt like your eyes hurt. He continued," You will probably be allowed to stay at the dorm even though the school has not started considering the situation".

"That's all I am supposed to say to you now. You will be meeting the Headmistress soon, She will explain the rest and answer your questions, if you have any".

Shortly afterwards we reached the school. It looked more like a town, than a school actually. There were building of varying sizes and shapes. Skyscrapers to small shed spread out on beautiful landscape. The path we walked on was decorated on each side by beautiful flowers and plants. We walked for about ten minutes and then came to a stop in front of a tall building.

Adam looked at me and spoke, "The headmistress's office is at the top of this building. I will be taking my leave now. Good luck on your journey to become a hero". That's all he said before he walked away. "Thank you", I said well after he left.

I stood there for a few minutes, collecting myself. In a few hours my life had turned upside down. from a common thief who had murdered someone, I was now going to study how to become a hero. My life is weirder than my inner consciousness. "I heard that", Of course 'it' did.

I walked into the building, the door slid away as I walked towards to it. The inside of the building was luxurious as anything I have ever seen. There were sofas and chairs kept around tables, some of them occupied. Plants planted on pots were kept all along the walls. The main attraction was the long desk at the far end from the door, it was occupied by three woman wearing a white and red uniform. Probably the reception.

As Adam had said that the Headmistress's office was the top floor, I walked towards the lift. Even though I lived in the streets, I have been on lift's occasionally. Climbing in the lift I pressed the number thirty three, which was the largest number I saw there.

Moments later I exited the lift into a hallway decorated with Portraits of men and women alike. I walked down the hallway towards the door at far end. Opening it, I entered a room which was occupied by a single man who was standing behind a desk.

I walked closer to the desk. "Hello. How can I help you sir?", the man spoke. If he was surprised by a boy who had not bathed for a long time, wearing clothes that had obviously seen better days, standing in front of him, he didn't show it.

"My name is Ethan. I am supposed to see the Headmistress", I explained to him. "Indeed. she is in her office now. Just beyond the door, sir", he said politely.

I left the polite man and walked towards the wooden door, that looked heavy, and opened it. I entered the room beyond. I had thought this room would be luxurious after seeing the other parts of the building and it didn't disappoint. Inside, there was a huge desk, a chair on the farther side from the entrance and two chairs on the other side, all looking extremely expensive. A carpet adorned the floor and several painting hanged by the wall.

Sitting on the single chair kept by the farther side of the desk from the door was a woman who looked to be in her forties, presumably the headmistress. "Come in, Ethan", she welcomed me.

I walked closer to desk and stood there. Even though I lived in the streets for three years I still knew that sitting in someone's office without their permission was not right. I stood there looking at the headmistress like a fool while she continued writing something.

"Sit down", the headmistress said and finally looked up from her writing, " My name is Jennifer sandy and I am the Headmistress of this school", She explained all the while her unnaturally pale eyes stared at me, it was creepy to be honest.

I just stared at her silently all the while. "You hungry?", she asked and yes I was was. Her power must be mind reading. " You can read minds?", I asked and she smiled.

"No. You don't have to be able to read minds to know someone is hungry", saying that the middle aged headmistress and picked up a kind of walkie-talkie and ordered breakfast for me. " I know that you have questions but I will give you a brief explanation on what is happening here and then you can ask your question", she said to me, putting down the walkie-talkie.

"Three years ago a port city in the west was attacked by a group of aliens. We don't know which species but from what we can understand they were very powerful. We have machines that calculates any power source all over the world and there were a couple powerful aura's coming from the town that night", she said, "By the morning the aliens retreated. why? we don't know. We don't even know why they came. The investigation is still going on".

"Every aura has a sort of feature and usually the aura of family members are some what same. By the morning that day we got another aura of somewhat same feature but with lesser power. The problem was that we couldn't pin point where this aura came from", the headmistress was saying her pale eyes sparkling in the sunlight that came through the open window, " We got another aura signal that had the same features yesterday and with the advanced technology now we pin pointed it and it was where we found you".

Now I was sweating. I was at at the port town that morning three years ago and the powerful aura that came by the morning must have been mine. But without much more information I couldn't be sure. I almost told the headmistress that I was present at the port town that day but stopped at the last second. She must be the headmistress of this prestigious school and she seemed nice too, but what if is she thought I was a freak and killed me. To be safe I decided to keep the information to myself for now and collect some more information before doing something. Idiot showed his agreement with a mental nod.

"We don't know if it was you or if the aura calculating machine had malfunctioned again. Could you tell me what happened?", she asked but it felt like she was not really asking but commanding. I needed information and this school seemed like the best place to get it so I had to stay. I decided to tell the headmistress a part of the story.

I was about tell her when a waitress came in with my breakfast. When she left, the headmistress encouraged me to eat, saying that we can continue after my breakfast. she continued her writing while I ate the delicious breakfast.

After the breakfast, which was probably the best I ever had, the waitress came back and took the now empty tray with her. The headmistress looked up from her writing and I took it as my cue to talk. I told her a slightly abbreviated story. I told her her that I was an orphan in a city in the east part of the country and that I had moved to the urban city three years ago. I told her that I had powers but that I couldn't control it. I told her about me being a thief and then hurting the bandits yesterday. I told her about Adam finding me and the rest she knew.

"I see. So you have powers but don't know what kind and can't control it", she started speaking after I finished my story, " You can join the this school as you have powers. We will provide you with necessary materials as well. We have normal classes like mathematics and English as well, but as you are undereducated you will be taking special classes from a tutor. ok?"

"Yes ma'am", I said to her. "Now you may leave. The receptionist in the room outside will provide you with the directions to your dorm", she said before starting to write again.

"Ma'am?", I said even though what she said was clear. She had said I could ask my questions.

"Yes?", she asked looking up from her writing again." You had said that I could ask questions".

"Oh", she said smiling, "I really don't have time now. So you can express your queries to the receptionist in the other room", she said and returned to her writing. This time I left the room, closing the door behind me.
