Room A-1

''You little kids are going to apply for a Job?'' The lady who was in charge of the registrar asked. Her eyes filled with disbelief when she saw those kids looking for a Job.

There were several occurrences where kids around their age would awaken early and then ask for a Job. But that was only because those kids came from a notable background. They had good resources to help them awaken early or they had a good bloodline to support them.

But these kids... No matter how many times she looked at them, she couldn't see any luxury from them. She couldn't even see the haughty air of a young master who looked down on everyone else.

Instead, those kids looked like the opposite as she could tell that they came from a humble background. They even seemed like those homeless kids from the street. So, how could she believe right away that they awakened just because they said it?

They must have known that awakened ability was crucial for applying for a Job. If they did not awaken any ability yet, then they wouldn't be able to receive any assessment.

''Yes, yes, strangely, we have accidentally awakened lately,'' Jax replied as he revealed a smile as if he looked like he was being embarrassed. He raised his hand as he condensed a small fire in the air.

''Oh?'' The attendant had her eyes widened for a moment. She glanced at the other kids to see whether they also awakened or not.

''Don't worry, we all have awakened.'' Jax assured the other party, ''So, can we take the test now?''

''Since you guys have already awakened, then you naturally are allowed to take the test,'' The attendant's response this time was quite welcoming. Well, she was just doing her job though.

''You're a first-timer, right?'' The attendant then asked for assurance.

''Yes,'' Jax replied.

''Then we are going to measure your abilities first and get your identity. You know the procedure, right?'' She asked again.

''Sort of,'' Jax replied as he scratched the back of his head.

''That's fine,'' The attendant replied as she handed over five white cards. ''These are your sequence numbers. Distribute one to each of your friends, okay?''

Jax took the cards as he replied, ''Thank you.''

Then he glanced at the card resting on top as he saw that there was a number written on it. There was also a bar code, the logo of the five Main Job Association, and some other short info written in much smaller fonts.

''Then, please go to Room A-1 over there and wait for your turn. The cards will help and lead you to the other procedures.'' The attendant spoke again as she pointed out the room at a distance away.

They looked in that direction and saw into the glass wall quite a few people were waiting on their seats.

''Alright,'' Jax replied as he headed in that direction and said again, ''Let's go, everyone.''

Soon they reached the location. They found seats and waited there patiently. Still, people around them couldn't help but look at them. Their eyes revealed mixed emotions like confusion, curiosity, or awe.

How could they not if they saw kids applying for Jobs on their own? Their presence here could only mean one thing. Those kids must have awakened at such a young age. Who wouldn't be intrigued with that?

But no one took the initiative to ask them because of mere curiosity. They later forgot about them as they instead focused on what was more important. And that was to wait for their numbers to be called out.

''Number 31 to 40. Come up,''

The man on the stage responsible for measuring the applicants spoke again. Those who were called immediately stood up and got on the stage. They then fell in a row, in front of the devices that were meant to measure them.

Then the man spoke again, ''Put your hand on the crystal and infuse your mana. If the system asks something, answer with full honesty. Don't worry, it will only ask you about your name, age, gender, and some other general info about yourself. It will be shown on your ID card, so you better take it seriously if you want to avoid identity issues.''

Just like that, those people obeyed what the instructor had said. They infused their mana on the crystal ball as the screen before them flashed open and displayed their status window with blank information.

The system really asked them about their name, age, etc., and after they were done answering, the system proceeded to identify their awakened abilities.

''Oh, I really got an elemental type, wind attribute ability! And it's a Magic grade!'' Someone suddenly blurted out cheerfully. It appeared like that person was satisfied with the ability he awakened.

Well, he purposely yelled out his findings aloud so as to attract the attention of some stronger guilds. If he happened to be invited by at least one decent guild, then a good future was assured for him.

''An elemental type? Then he is a Mage, right? That's really good! That's what I want as well.''

''A Magic grade ability? I really wish I will awaken one too,''

People waiting in the area couldn't help but talk about it with each other. There were even a few people who couldn't help but be envious.

In any case, only that person among all the others on the stage was joyous about his character status. As for the others who stood there on the stage with him, they seemed gloomy about their findings. Their character status must have not met their expectations.

Soon, they came down from the stage and the instructor later called out the next batch, ''Number 41 to 50, come up,'' he said.

The next batch stood up and went on the same procedure as the others. Meanwhile, Jax and the band didn't pay much attention to them as they instead kept talking with each other.

''Damn, just when are we be called? Leader, what numbers did we get anyway?'' Ben suddenly asked impatiently. Now that he thought about it, Jax hadn't distributed them their numbers, right?

''Ah, right. these are your numbers,'' Jax also just recalled about it as he handed over the cards to each of his friends.

Numbers 83 to 87, that was their numbers.

''Ugh, damn, this is longer than expected,'' Ben couldn't help but complain after seeing his number which was 86. Just why were there so many people who awakened today?

''Stop complaining. You're looking more and more like an old man,'' Jax responded as he shook his head slowly.

''Ugh, not at all,'' Ben rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms and leaned on his seat. He was about to shut his mouth for good when suddenly, Jajah beside him spoke.

''Hmm... That guy over there is quite strange. He keeps looking this way with such a cringy gaze.'' Jajah pointed out the guy seated at a distance away. She didn't know why, but that guy seemed familiar.

Jax and the others shifted their gazes at the place where Jajah was pointing. They immediately saw the guy that Jajah was talking about. How could they not if that guy was being so obvious? The hostility he revealed was more than enough for them to feel awkward.

Just who on earth was that person? The others asked in their mind. But Jax who saw that guy felt like he had seen him before.

He thought deeper and later he finally remembered and recognized that person.

''He can't be...'' Jax tried to smile but the corners of his lips couldn't stop twitching. He thought that that guy was already done for as they wouldn't meet each other ever again. But seeing him now again, it seemed like this guy's luck was still good.
